Guys I'm about to drop the hottest flaming take of the century: Reload has some covers that are better, but the original has some songs that are better than the covers too.
The big problem for me with the new version of Mass Destruction is mixing, not the new singer. Yeah it’s different, but equally as good. What isn’t however is the stupid frog noise that’s way louder in the mix now. Oh well. At least the new LJ verse is good. I honestly like most of the reload versions of the songs. I’m seeing some comments saying most of the remixes suck like Deep Mentality, Unavoidable Battle, or Changing Seasons. I heavily disagree. Those are great remixes and don’t invalidate the originals. I’d even argue some of them like, Deep Breath Deep Breath and Moon Reaching Out Stars, are better than the originals. I think the big problem is that there isn’t an option to switch to use the originals though. I was positive they were going to release that as DLC later on but never did.
I love the new songs that were made with the new singer in mind. I don't hate the new mass destruction (I do HATE the new Burn my Dread that they never used), but she doesn't have the same energy the original had. Regardless, if you're playing ANY game for the first time the music is half the experience. Swapping it out for something else is for when you're spending a few hours grinding further into the game. Not during the first introduction to the location.
They both do sound good enough. Though the original singer sings with more energy than the new one. And that's enough to make a lot of people completely hate the new version.
The Persona fanbase is probably the most irritating one out there because they will 1.) get made if you don’t remake the game 2.) get mad if you remake the game and change anything and 3.) Get mad if you remake the game and don’t change what they want to change.

It's not just about the "Baby baby" parts, the vocalist is a literal different person, and they change the soundfont they use for some of the non-tradional instruments. It's objectively a cover of the older song.

@@myyoutubeaccount4167 That's the way I feel about Reload in general though. They remade the parts that people already liked to be worse (music, cutscenes), while not changing enough about the parts that people didn't like (Tartarus). I already liked Persona 3, I don't need a version that tries (and fails) to win me over with very different music and cutscenes just for the sake of making it seem like a 'new' game
@@athorem Fair, although I struggle to see what they could do to Tartarus (apart from more layout changes and more entropic factors) that would both satisfy fans whilst retaining some of its original identity. *(IF THERE ARE ANY NEW FANS HERE THAT ARE READING THIS, THERE ARE SPOILERS IN MY LONG AAH COMMENT. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!)* From my outsider’s perspective, it actually seems that in a few ways, Tartarus is somewhat downgraded here. The lack of weapon variation means that there is less variation in the way you approach enemies. There is no making a choice about whether or not you need a weapon that’s good for engaging in combat but rather mediocre in the context of said combat, or using something more risky but potentially more rewarding, for example. Then, of course, Tactics were gutted. I know people massively prefer Direct Controls, but there’s no denying that Tactics were a massive part of P3’s identity. I wish we could’ve had both tbh, because the tactics system interests me a lot. Strategizing everyone’s roles ahead of time was an enjoyable part of P3 for me. The system wasn’t perfect…actually I have a lot of little grips with it, but it’s not nearly as bad as many claim it to be…although many who claim it to be outright terrible and unusable cannot comprehend the fact that changing Mitsuru’s tactic causes her to change her course of action. And of course, I hear that the difficulty was mostly taken out, which will probably make playing the game more boring…although the other side to this is the fact that there is likely no moments in Reload where you’re staring at your screen in confusion because the enemy hit you with Heat Wave and it was a critical hit specifically for you…or any moments where you’re just bamboozled by the fact that seemingly everything has access to a Hama/Mudo skill past the second block, just to remind you that even though the title screen says Persona, you are still technically playing a SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI game lmao. But then again, there are aspects of Reload that, on paper, I really like. Theurgy skills and Personalities act to individualize party members beyond what skills they have, and further individualization of party members was a goal the PS2 versions of P3 strived for, so in a sense, I’d say these fit that vision. However, I hear they break any semblance of balance in the game. For example, Ken supposedly has a theurgy that activates Mediarahan, Samarecarm (AoE), Makarakarn (AoE) and Tetrakarn (AoE) all at once, for NO SP, if I recall correctly. That lives rent free in my mind lmao. Outside of combat, I’m aware that social links are all fully voiced, which can’t be anything but positive IMO. Also, male characters having pseudo social links and additional scenes with the SEES being added sounds like a positive to me as well. One of my gripes with Persona 3 is that there isn’t enough moments in the game where you get to connect with your SEES members for me personally, which is a shame because this is my favorite main cast out of any Persona game. I understand there is a nuance to this…the SEES aren’t a scooby gang in the same way the investigation team from P4 are, and I prefer them not to be tbh…but they all share a dorm lamayo. I would be fine with more nighttime events dedicated to getting to know the individual members better, as well as moments where they all interact with each other in some way. Can’t think of anything else rn lol Sorry for this really long comment, just wanted to get these thoughts out
The P3R version of Mass Destruction is worse, and it's not just because of the single line change. Although, that line change does affect the song for the worse, are we going to act like it doesn't? How the singer chooses to sing a song changes the vibes a lot Mass Destruction isn't even the worst remix on the ost, for that you'll have to look at Unavoidable Battle, Burn My Dread, 3/31, A Deep Mentality
People are crazy about persona 3. They always were. There were infinite discussions for the answer. They spread several misconceptions and headcanons about the game (like saying the protagonist is depressed which is never ever brought up) and made a fuss about every single detail they developed a feticism for. That's the reason why fans took so much of an emotive position about the new music because for so many years there was only one mass destruction and it became so popular and iconic you can't have a new take on it. Nothing would've made the fans say "it still has the P3 vibes". I would argue the P3 aura was mostly idolized by fans who picked even accidental stuff and mistakes and called them P3 vibes. Then afterwards nothing was going to satisfy them, every change is a betrayal. Do you know why? Because the p3 aura is made up, the original game is not as solid and as perfect as people claim it is. The combat is completely broken, the story is freaking hollow for the most part (nothing happens for most of it), relies too much on symbolism and is completely filled by the fanbase with headcanons (the community took so many things for granted like the MC being depressed) because has incredibly vague and poorly presented story points. If this is the best story (while it's the most defended) then we have a problem.
I agree a lot. The symbolism honestly doesn't have a lot of substance for the most part. Playing P3Fes, there is so many boring stretches where nothing happens. I feel so many people forgot about how nothing would happen for hours. P3R did a lot to improve it, but that's a bit more of a nuanced discussion.
The remake is just so _stiff._ It was very obviously not written for her voice, cadence and accent, and Kitajoh is not nearly good enough of an arranger to fit it to hers. Obviously this is a lot better when they can work together to create an original that fits her voice _and_ the style of the arrangement better. Which is why all the new songs are beloved.
@@hundvd_7 I think she's great at songs written specifically for Her and not original Singer, if Lotus Juice is same even after 16 Years and fits great as always, new vocals is weaker in every remade track, it's just noticable if you played as example Persona 3 FES for 10 hours and then Reload, same with instrumentals like Master of Tartarus where Bass and Drums is worse than in Original and missing FX at beginning as in same other tracks like proper delay or reverb.
Genuinely don't like any of the remixed songs in P3R. They tried to make the game more like P5 over keeping what made P3 unique and enjoyable, and the style of music is a big part of that. I love P3, 4, and 5 but P3 had such a unique atmosphere going on with its grittier world. Part of making that world darker and more twisted included the old music style. The new Iwatodai Dorm, new Mass Destruction, new Changing Seasons, etc. are all jazzed up and really change the atmosphere of the game. The new Changing Seasons is the biggest offender by far, imo. P3R feels like it copied some of what made P5 good and incorporated it without considering for P3 itself, instead of actually focusing on making P3 a more enjoyable experience for the modern audience. I haven't even talked about how the art direction is so much worse in P3R
P3 was never really dark and gritty in it's atmosphere. There's times it is but it generally isn't. I like the new Changing Seasons better even though we probably disagree on that. I hear more pop than jazz in it imo. I honestly don't see how is the art direction worse in any way.
It does tho? As best as it can at least as well as it can. It’s a battle theme, how is it supposed to hit the lo fi hip hop groove besides what it did?
@@Potentialman-vs2cd Honestly there are times when I wish Persona battle themes were more in line with other SMT games. “Hunting” in DDS1, or the “Normal Battle ~ Town” in Nocturne go harder than any normal battle theme in a modern Persona game IMO, and this is coming from someone who ENJOYS the Persona battle themes (except Reach out to the Truth…that theme sucks).
Every weeb out here fighting on which version has the best music, not realising every Persona game has an awful soundtrack, listen to some real music for once in your life
That's not the point of the soundtrack it's not supposed to be some sort of Taylor Swift ass album, it's just music meant to fit the game. A soundtrack can be good in it's own right it's a completely different beast from actual 'Music'. Lots of movies and games have good sountracks but that doesn't mean they're always good to listen to outside of it
P3R has the weakest soundtrack. Specifically P3R, not vanilla 3. People only like to talk about the new songs in Reload because the remixes are garbage

Fair, although I struggle to see what they could do to Tartarus (apart from more layout changes and more entropic factors) that would both satisfy fans whilst retaining some of its original identity.
*(IF THERE ARE ANY NEW FANS HERE THAT ARE READING THIS, THERE ARE SPOILERS IN MY LONG AAH COMMENT. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!)*
From my outsider’s perspective, it actually seems that in a few ways, Tartarus is somewhat downgraded here.
Can’t think of anything else rn lol
Sorry for this really long comment, just wanted to get these thoughts out

The P3R version of Mass Destruction is worse, and it's not just because of the single line change. Although, that line change does affect the song for the worse, are we going to act like it doesn't? How the singer chooses to sing a song changes the vibes a lot
Mass Destruction isn't even the worst remix on the ost, for that you'll have to look at Unavoidable Battle, Burn My Dread, 3/31, A Deep Mentality
I'm not blinded by nostalgia, rerecorded songs are better.
the fact that as a p3 fan i agree with joe just cause chat being so annoying
Both versions are good. It's always the dub lovers that have these terrible takes
Og persona 3 is just better other than its going down remix. Also last surprise is great but i like og mass destruction
-Relies too much on symbolism
“Please force feed me the message, nuance and media literacy is too hard.”
relies too much on symbolism 😭 persona 5 has fried your brain
I agree a lot. The symbolism honestly doesn't have a lot of substance for the most part.
Playing P3Fes, there is so many boring stretches where nothing happens. I feel so many people forgot about how nothing would happen for hours. P3R did a lot to improve it, but that's a bit more of a nuanced discussion.
The P3 movies definitely reinforce the idea that the MC is depressed though
Wtf I was actually agreeing with your message until "relies too much on symbolism" part 😢
I mean... I agree with him... y'all need to calm the fuck down about it lmao
So is his whole playthrough just triggering Persona 3 fans?
That's all weeb games he plays though, that's why people watch him.
Broke: da-da da dā, da-da da dā, baby baby
Woke: dùh-ruh duh-dūh, dúh-ruh duh-dūh, baybeh-baybeh
The remake is just so _stiff._
It was very obviously not written for her voice, cadence and accent, and Kitajoh is not nearly good enough of an arranger to fit it to hers.
Dark and griddy
P3 was never really dark and gritty in it's atmosphere. There's times it is but it generally isn't. I like the new Changing Seasons better even though we probably disagree on that. I hear more pop than jazz in it imo. I honestly don't see how is the art direction worse in any way.
New vocalist is way better
baby song never fit the vibes of the game
It does tho? As best as it can at least as well as it can. It’s a battle theme, how is it supposed to hit the lo fi hip hop groove besides what it did?
@@Potentialman-vs2cd
Honestly there are times when I wish Persona battle themes were more in line with other SMT games.
