Colombian here. I've lived in several places around the world and know well that for a few weeks you have to pay way more than normal until you get to know the city, the shops etc. $2300 for a small apartment is outrageous. You can get something very comfortable somewhere else in Medellin for a 1/4 of that. Security wise, Medellin is not safe at all. However, if you use very basic common sense, you'll be totally fine. Medellin is really an awesome place to be, specially if you are a single male!!
What a great video. Just sold my home in Miami and moved my family to Colombia. Keep up the great job on your videos. Keep me motivated to continue our vlog!👍
Colombia has turned out to be a favorite for innumerable expats seeking a decent quality of life at low costs. Most of its cities are welcoming enough with adequate social activities, comfortable climate, and much more.
Hi! Great video. I'm a digital nomad and content creator living in Brazil 🇧🇷 now here for 6 months. I'm relocating to Columbia for 3 months in June. I'm going to Cartagena first and probably Medellin in July for my second month. I'm excited to explore Columbia and all that It has to offer! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for making this video, as a Colombian from Medellin. Everything you mentioned is so true but on top of that, thank you for saying all those great things about my city
Hey! I just want to tell you, I’ve seen so many Colombia videos. None of them is this informative as you!!! This video got a lot my questions awnsered.
😮 that’s a real gringo price. That’s more than my monthly expenses/ budget with a empleada and I’m still paying car insurance in the US. Beautiful balcony though.
Nice video. Medellin has really 2 metro lines, which are also connected to a special bus system (Metroplus) and to some cable car lines (Metrocable) that are part of the same transport system, there is one of them that’s touristic and takes you out of the city to a natural park called Parque Arví, where you can plan nice hikes around the forest.
Good to see another San Franciscan enjoying Medellin as I have. I feel that Medellin can be well on its way to being a great tech and expat hub in the near future. Moving back there in Oct.
Great video Haley, we are from Medellin, Colombia🇨🇴 I'm so glad you guys are happy, we visit often, we still have a lot of family there, greetings from USA 🇺🇸
Thank you for this video and information! I’m not usually a video watcher (more of a reader) but I was intrigued by your experience living in Medellin and really enjoyed your content and the knowledge and information shared. Will follow! Wishing you all the best in your next destinations
I had to watch the video 2 times, because first time i wasn't paying attention on the info but i was just admiring her eyes. Absolutely charming i can tell. Thanks for the video btw
I just found you via a Laura Reid video. I started getting into planning a Colombian adventure when a friend showed me all the street art and photos of the crazy hillsides. I am a fitness nut so, those would be great to run. I wanted to ask you about the gyms there. Did/do you work out at any? Also, how is their health care? I had a very serious tumor years ago so, it's top of mind to make sure wherever I go has decent care if needed (thankfully not needed in the last decade). I always get extra intl travel insurance but that doesn't matter if the country has poor care.
Hi both citys are great I live in Bogotá it's a huge city with a lot of things to do weather it's not cold it's like 20 ° C and you can find a better price here.
Our company offers work visa to U.S.A citizens that work remotely and also we set everything for you to stay, a luxurious place for 1.000-2000 USD per month.
Thanks for the post! May i ask a question about local cell service? Do you know which is the best for data speeds? I wanna make sure i have a back up since i work customer service and need constant internet access. I’ll be visiting for the first time this week… looking for long term accommodations and thanks to you imma focus more on the laureles 🙂 hope to hear back 🙂
I know this video is 2 years old, but I am going. there next week for my first time. I am a little concerned with the State Department warning on traveling there? any comments on that? I know you commented on the precautions you mentioned. yeah It means just be smart, no flashing jewelry or new iPhones or flashing your money in public. did you personally hear any Americans being robbed or assaulted ? I think going first time to stay I will get a hotel instead of AirBnB for convenience and Safety reasons. Any suggestions on that?
For that budget you could have rented a Penthouse with a private pool Haley, I think you can do better for 2300 USD, that’s a lot of money in Colombia. For around 2500 USD you could pretty much get a mansion.
@@HaleyTakesOntheWorld Usually the English speaking big real estate agencies will try to “Gringo Price” foreigners and you won’t get as good of a deal even though they will want you to think you are getting a good deal. The best way is through Spanish speaking agencies or directly the owners, you can ask security guards around areas you are interested in, they usually know when there is a place up for rent. I can also give you the number of a good realtor, the only honest one I have found who also speaks English. Let me know if you want her contact info and if so I’ll send you her information on Instagram.
@@lifewithclemens thank you for your reply! Since I had never been to Medellin before, and didn’t know anyone in Colombia, I would not have been able to ask locals about real estate, or look up the local websites in Spanish. I’ve found it’s difficult to get the full answer when going through people, without having proper photos, reviews, renter’s insurance, and overall security and professionalism in the housing search. If you come to Medellin for a few months strictly as a high earning digital nomad then the price for that apartment might be worth it. It really is a spectacular balcony. If you plan to remain here longer term you can do much better on the rent. I rented an unfurnished 2/2 with a small balcony but similar spectacular view in Laureles. We have a 24 hour doorman. I bought my own furniture and rent out my parking space to the company next door. Due to the most favorable exchange rate for hard currency my rent runs me under USD 500 including utilities, internet and cell phone. I've met digital nomads here who earn in hard currency but not nearly as much as Haley. It's possible to make it here on a LOT less. Haley went first class, top of the line.
Been following any type nomads. And it is fortunate that you and Wil mentioned digital nomads. This is OFW Nomad, living in Dubai. I am a fun of you two. I copy your styles and feel in the vids. Long way to go, but I am learning. Would be glad to have your support... By the way, trading in the stock market is among my daily grind. And it is a bona fide digital nomad's source of income too!
Okay, as for the precautions you mentioned, there’s this saying we have that applies to it and as a Colombian myself the one and only advice we can give you to those visiting and that you’ll probably hear the most and most Colombians will always tell you or say very frequent is “NO DAR PAPAYA”. Which means exactly that, don’t put yourself in a vulnerable situation where you may be taken advantage of and just keep an eye on your belongings, because papaya given is papaya taken- ALSO, that milk was soooo expensive the one I drink is around like $1.50? Girl, if you went to Carulla that supermarket is literally one of the most expensive here in Colombia if not the most, even if you found it really “cheap”, but not gonna lie they have good quality products if you are into that healthy lifestyle, I mean there’s more variety but you can find that elsewhere! Hahaha! Well, now you know or anyone reading this! 😅😂 I think out of the 3 neighborhood/areas you mentioned El Poblado is the best, it was there where my family and I stayed, it was kinda central to every place we went to.
