This channel is a gold mine! I’ve binged a few of your videos now and I love how clear your explanations are. I’ve already applied some of what I’ve learned from here to a redesign I’m doing for a nonprofit. Keep it up 👍

this series is so helpful still 2 years later. i wish you had more but i can see why they arent as "catchy". the most popular youtubers in this series are mostly selling the idea of being a web designer and not just telling me some useful things efficiently.
people want sold a lie so they can all make annoying websites for each other. probably a random comment on this video but just finished the one about uniqueness killing practicality so coming back to these again before i start on my first one.
when im not poor ill send you stuff fam ty so much

Last year I added a minimalist newsletter sign-up form to my footer and had a 300% increase in sign-ups over the following months and my analytics show that it was indeed the form in the footer that most people ended up using. It goes to show just how much of a difference a well thought out footer can make. I think the key is not making your client search for what they are looking for. Humans tend to be lazy, so they will quickly move on if they can't immediately find what they are looking for.

I loved your discussion about footers, an important part of web design. Your discussion method was no nonsense, straightforward, and I was able to comprehend the information effortlessly, unlike some lecturers on topics that are either too esoteric or too bland, putting me to sleep so I have to keep going back over topics to retain the needed information. Which reminds me of my favorite aspect of this video... No Extraneous BS!!! I get so tired of consuming more information than i need for the topic at hand. Thank you for this excellently informative knowledge share!!!

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:19 🌐 Website footers can enhance user experience, increase conversions, and impact SEO.
01:17 🛡️ A website's footer serves as a last resort for finding content and a second chance to convert users.
02:28 🔄 Three types of footers: normal, infinite scroll/mini footer, and contextual footers offer different navigation experiences.
04:06 🎨 Footer design should match your website's style and purpose, considering the size and type of business.
08:25 📈 A/B tests show that well-placed call-to-action buttons in the footer can significantly boost conversions.

Have just discovered your channel. Love it! Nearly watched it all already.
Would be awesome to see you analyse some site with design mistakes, then mock up how you would have done it. EG: crappy looking footer turned in to a functional footer sort of thing.
Thanks again for the informative and humorous content ... most of which backs up everything I try to convince my clients of every day. #vindicated 👍

I'm loving your videos, thanks for providing these. I suspect with the case of Radley a brand like that may well change personnel every 2-3 years I'd bet nobody flagged in Google Analytics the cause of uplift and the importance wasn't known. I see so often ideas put to the side, revisited, work thrown away and redone again. Also in terms of footer links to external companies and SEO - I'd say ALWAYS link but could you manage the risk of perceived 'bad' practice by wrapping your link in a rel="nofollow" or perhaps even in some of the newer meta such as rel="sponsored"? Theoretically the nofollow will tell Google that you're not seeking link equity from the link and it's spider should not follow it, it can be combined with the sponsored meta to suggest that payment has been received for the placement of the link. That should mitigate the risk.

How does footer links affect internal links structure. For example the About Us page gets a link from every page on the website.

I link to my different areas I serve in my footer. I currently use my keywords as anchor text. Is that black hat? Example one of them is Roanoke wedding photographer. Should it just say Roanoke instead?

Hmm. So I have a blog on WordPress. I'll have to see what the Gutenber editor allows in the free plan (which means no plugins), but it seems that blogroll and tags may be unacceptable in the footer, as I have it now. I chose against a theme with a sidebar because it eliminates the possibility for wide images, and I don't like how inconsistent it is on mobile where it gets shoved down to the bottom anyway.

  • @SoulStitch1111

Thank you. It is something I've often wondered about, footers. Though I would love to know the difference in the example you gave about the designed by Websites of Toronto, vs the Website Architect, linking to the brandname... I don't see a difference. You say linking, which brings to my mind using the https addy of the Website Architect... so are you saying that actually linking versus just mentioning? Please define. Thank you.

I generally love your videos, but there is a lack of examples for mobile. With much of internet traffic being on mobile devices, I would really appreciate the ability to see how some of these good examples translate to a smaller screen.

Instead of About pages, tl;dr and I just stick a short blurb and contact info in the footer too. Most companies feel overwhelmed trying to prepare content for it, so I say just skip it if you don't have anything important to say. Anyways speaking of footer content, I always hate generating privacy policies and terms of service etc, and those cookie consent popups.
