....Mr Vizutti does NOT have a thin sound like some critics over the years have claimed. He has a compact/focused and precise sound NOT thin or shrill or even small. I heard him play at Bradley University Jazz Fest in Feb. 2011 in a small carpeted room. His sound was unbelievably precise and had a perfect zip and sizzle but also warmth when he wanted that. Complete control this man has! Very nice and warm man too!
Vizzutti has always been my all time favorite trumpet player. I was searching youtube yesterday looking for a recording of this song to inspire me to continue perusing this piece as an audition piece and....wow. I have fallen in love with this piece once again and I can't wait to really dig into it once more!!
Vizzutti has not always been a my favorite of trumpet players. Now, start to be. In this presentation, he is perhaps the best ever interpretation of the Fantasie brilliant. Including the Wynton Marsalis recording. Herbert Clarke was able to turn over in his grave. Triple-tongue is really beautiful.
Just love the way you can follow every note straight out of the Arban unlike Wynton M's version - which is "Brilliante" by the way! This version I have learnt so much from, for my own development. Thanks Allen!
I personally asked Mr. Vizzuti in 2011 what mouthpiece he plays on, and it is a Yamaha custom made for him (I wrote down the size but lost it). He said there really is no Bach equivalent but the closest Bach would be a 3E. He also said the cup on his Yamaha mpc is a little shallow and that most all players, especially students play on too big equipment. Which makes most trumpeters work too hard for an all around good range. He does use this one mouthpiece for all of his solo AND lead playing. H
Not a fan of his interpretation of the intro and theme (just too slow for my tastes) but his interpretations of all the variations are wonderful in my opinion, there's so much clarity with it
don't understand why he doesn't make any contrast in the intro, where a big crescendo is in the piece. And then we see clearly a "come back" with a lot of melancholy
+Armando Giordano Well if disliking this version is a matter of taste, then perhaps you'd like to enlighten us as to the versions we should be listening to, so that we may improve our musical taste to your own obviously high level.
+Geoff Valenti well that s precisely the answer i would have expected from a person who doesn t know that taste is a free and personal concept, wich brings us to the reason why you published your first comment, sadly i say ,again.
I'm guessing this must be from this recording? VIZZUTTI MEETS ARBAN Vizzutti Meets Arban: Wonderful new editions of eight famous Arban solos recorded with piano accompaniment.
@Joebone18974 -that's just b/c it's kind of darkened out. In this pic it's the Marcinkiewicz copy of his custom Schilke. The Schilke had a rim a little smaller than the 14A4 but with a bowl shaped cup and a #28 throat, the backbore was a standard "c" I think.
Hi, I want to buy this arrangement for a trumpet student of mine. Does anyone know where I can buy it? Most places I find have a simplified piano part, and they are missing the melodic accompaniement of the piano...
It's this book: www.jwpepper.com/Vizzutti-Meets-Arban-Mead-Pno-Accmp/5862727.item#/submit You might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere, but that's the book the piano accompaniment is in (all arranged by Andrew Watkin).
@kevinmorgan2100 Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I wouldn't describe his tone as "thin" I would feel better saying that it's more "compact" sounding because it's still a pretty full sound, but its more focused.

JohnnyGutierrezTrumpeti agree... thin, i wouldnt say "thin". not the right word. his sound is smaller, and on the brighter side though.

Christopher Martins live performance was better on my opinion
Just beautiful. Allen is a true treasure. Plus, he does it ALL...
Fantasticoo.... non ci sono parole per descrivere quanto è bravo
Grande Allen :)
Allen plays it like his walking on clouds. I love it!
I wish I could play like that.. I'm going to play this at my exam (D).. And I absolutely LOVE this song!!
Me too ! :D
Good luck!
You too !
Me too!
Ghehe wow really?
Verdaderamente, esto es algo sorprendente, espero llegar al nivel musical que tiene Allen, y por que no superarlo, fantástico me fascino ....

I wish some day i can play it as great as you are playing it 🎺
I feel so proud that I can at least play the introduction from my Arban's book, and hope that maybe someday I can play as cleanly and smoothly as him.
controlled sound with brilliant temparament...very articulate
One of the best interpretation !
Beautiful!

You can now buy it from the Pickett Blackburn website!
He is a machine!!!!😱😱😱

what other musicians who play this piece do you recommend?
This is Allen, I have this book, he is playing on a cornet with a 5C mouthpiece. The book is available through DeHaske music.
Veery good. I love it.
Great playing.
Perhaps those who choose to dislike this would care post their own version on TH-cam, so we could hear them making a better job of it!
+Geoff Valenti I'm sure they prefer hearing Marsalis and his version.
One does not simply dislike because he/she can do better, it s called taste and i think it s sad that on you tube i often see comments like yours
+Armando Giordano

i love this interpretation
buena interpretacion y que tranquilidad para tocar
@TechOneMN I have to play it for Missouri All State and All District auditions this year too. For trombone.
Amazing!

I suggest you guys buy the Allen Vizzuti trumpet method.
You are my idol
Brilliant
molto bravo
On Tuba ?? i think yes..

I know this is a bit late, but the only version I know is that one behind the arban book
It's this book:

You might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere, but that's the book the piano accompaniment is in (all arranged by Andrew Watkin).
There's a book, I think it's Rubanks elementary method; I remember being near the end of that book. Also, Arbans Complete Method has it
xD good luck unless hes a talented university student
I play this piece for audition just made it
Sarah Alvarado Lol same except I️ didn’t make I️t 😂😂😂

I love how in the video his last name is spelled differently than in the title.
Brandon Colmark it's not
Matthew Loud That comment was two years ago it’s probably been fixed
The end sounds similar to Carnival of Venice :3
its not like there the same composer
good
@Eumismoable some time there are more who don;t have any musical ear
it's Fantasie brilliante right? not brilliant fantasie
TheDiensn translated its brillante fantasies
It's just translated to English, that's all.
This can't be vizzuti. But it's still a good example
Dean Patterson yes it is it’s just him a little older
Frankly, no doubting the the technique, however I do find the tone very thin with little warmth
not my cup of tea. i would prefer a fuller sound, a better interpretation and good time
I don't think it's him playing. Even though it's a good performance.
