The clarinet used to hold a high place in popular music. Then it seems like the sax players took over. I’d love it if that old licorice stick made a comeback!
How did it go? Was it remarkable? Did it make anyone cry? Was it as scary as you imagined it would be? Did you love it? The world is dying for some good news. Do share, please.
esta obra la toque con mi banda en un concierto conmemorativo a un profesor de nuestra Escuela que falleció. es una locura para todos los interpretes. nos sentimos muy orgullosos de él, y seguro que él tambien de nosotros.
Great to hear how different people play the same thing, definitely the best version I have found on the internet but still completely different to the way both me and the other guy in my class who are playing this play it...
It could be worse than this. This is supposed to be SWING, which is real dance music with brisk dynamics. Not classical. Here there is no drive: the orchestra is asleep, can't play swing, can't play for people dancing, only for people sitting. The clarinettists can't swing either, doesn't feel the rhythm, lacks daring dynamics and accents, plays with too polished tone (classical background?) with no bite. Everything ends up sounding monotonous like artificial-jazzy-classical-mash that has no drive or bite.
I think Artie Shaw technically was a better clarinet player by a very small amount but Benny Goodman was the much better bandleader only because Artie Shaw in his own words got bored too easily. But who told Irving Fazola as a New Orleans Jazz Clarinetist?
@@kei4555 once your gliss is approaching the c, put down the fingering for c#, and then once you hit the c# prepare for the g fingering. Should be able to use your mouth for the notes inbetween, it takes a little bit of practice to get it smooth between those 2 sections, but just remember to have good air support and you'll be right
What score most accurately follows what's played here? I've looked at what's available in stores and the net, and not a single one is even close to what's played here. Any help will be appreciated.
Let me guess - you are not a pro dancer? Did you ever listen to the original? This is supposed to be SWING, which is real dance music with brisk dynamics. Not classical. Here there is no drive: the orchestra is asleep, can't play swing, can't play for people dancing, only for people sitting. Everything ends up sounding monotonous.
@leannemichel Different than the recording I have too. I'm not an expert, but I don't think this is not Artie Shaw playing. Very good even if it isn't.
Can someone tell me where to find the sheet music to the solo part of this? (free) I found some links in the comments, but I don't have access, or I need to use a credit card or pay money, neither of which I am capable of doing. I am only in high school and my band teacher doesn't own a copy of the piece.
This guy doesn't sound like Artie Shaw to me. The real Artie didn't have to dip before starting the slur upwards. And, there's just too many slurs in the whole piece.😾
Of course this is not Artie Shaw! Nowhere close! Does anybody who plays this ever listen to Artie Shaw play it!? Stop, stop I beg of you STOP The awful scoops. Please I beg of you!
...I totally agree but of the ones I have heard on You Tube, she is the best. OMG, she' blew ' as in lost it, the last note...her tone broke in two. Well, obviously these artists have been all classical players..they do not know how to play swing...they obviously did not listen much to Shaw's original version that we all love.

The education system has made this instrument boring but I see it making a comeback soon
I'm playing this piece tomorrow with a big band in front of 2000 people :O
My favourite piece ever!

@@Beanys728 Given all that has traumatized our memories in the last nine years, he may not even remember it...but, yeah, how'd it go? Soloist?
how did it go?
Blow a trumpet as well do you.
Howd it go? 🥲
I played this piece a few years ago in my town's Symphonic Orchestra and I've been obsessed with it since

Esta Hermoso!
Y asi como lo interpretaron ustedes...Me parece una buena interpretación. 💕
Just heard this performed tonight. Incredible clarinet player. It takes a lot to be able to play this.
5:56 greatest gliss of all time

I'm playing lead trumpet on this for a friend's clarinet recital :D
This is so awesome I had to buy it. It ranks right up there with Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. Awesome stuff!
a friend of mine played the clarinet solo for this.... love the piece. she played superb i think :D (almost exactly like this version)
ein Klasse Titel , Artie ein echter Künstler !
Is this Sharon Kam, the classical player? Incredible jazz feeling, best version of this concerto I know.
agreed.
look at the Yale University
top top top of the bill
was lucky enough to listen to her live in israel, and it always amazes me how differently each person plays this concerto.

cant tell you how much i want to play this
this is why i love playing the clarinet!
Sharon Kam : grande clarinettiste, en classique comme en jazz...!
Proof that Artie Shaw goes far beyond just "Begin the Beguine".
But it was Benny Goodman who popularised the clarinet.
People have ranted for 85 years over who was greater. Neither. Both.
I think Artie Shaw technically was a better clarinet player by a very small amount but Benny Goodman was the much better bandleader only because Artie Shaw in his own words got bored too easily. But who told Irving Fazola as a New Orleans Jazz Clarinetist?
Great Sharon Kam
Very nice version. Excellent interpretation!
Who do you think wrote it?
A lot of I'm playing this etc. I'll just say he was brilliant, this is not the best version that he made but it's still great. Thanks Artie.
It's Sharon Kam; she's amazing! xoxo

The Perfect Jazz Song

Lol I asked my instructor that and hes all oh this one? And he did it like nothing and I just laughed cause omg
ikr!! im currently learning this piece and i dont know how im gonna play that part haha
Benny Goodman eats dirt.

@@zsasodamjan dude, many thanks from two years in the future! :D
I wonder what reed did he use ?
It was a she and the reed was the least of her problems, although she did better then most of the other classical folks who tried this.
Sliding is maybe the only difference between this player and Artie The Legend Swah...
There are no dislike, Pretty good, isn't it?
