It's really a classic case of a mother refusing to let her child leave the nest and resenting anyone who gets between her and her child. All Beth did was alienate her son because she cant stand to see others happy if shes not happy 🥺
Both of my daughters-in-law are older than my sons. One 3 yrs older and the other 5 yrs older. I never thought much of it and it’s never, ever been an issue. They’re both wonderful people. Good friends, great wives and super mothers. Seriously, age means nothing when couples fit.
My parents had the same issue while married because my mom's significantly younger then my dad As in they met when she was 19 and he was approaching 30 age gap His family use to give her crap about about *ugh* "honey trapping" him? Meanwhile my dad's getting high fives for landing such a gorgeous young woman The only fight I remember happening around us was during a BBQ and his mom said something along the lines of "Just admit it! You wanted his money!" Cue the entire family including her husband looking at her in complete bewilderment while my mom shot back "What money?" Because they were not well off like at all as a whole and my dad had worked at an auto shop that entire time
In the end everything turned out fine. But you thinking of allowing the monster back into your live again, is like putting your hand in boiling hot water assuming it won't burn you. The only reason why people like Beth pretend to change is because they are left with nobody, no money, no support, and constant harassment from friends, relatives, family, and acquaintances. Keep them where they belong.
Part of the year my wife is three years older than me, and she's four years older. After nearly 27 years, there has NEVER been any issues. My mother loved my wife like her own daughter until the day she died.
My husband and I did not get married until we were 36 years old. We have now been married for 22 years and this year I will turn 59 - getting close to 60. That sounds so old!! But thanks to my fertility problems and a whacked out thyroid, I was only able to carry one child to full term. Our son is now 21 years old and doing great!! My MIL was wonderful!! She never called us old even though her son, the one I married, was the oldest of 4 children and the LAST one to get married!!
I don’t get why the age of the DIL matters. If she has 3 heads and a donkey tail who cares. As long as she makes the son happy that’s all that matters.
I knew the burger incident would happen. Every time a MIL says they are not hungry and asks the DIL to pay for the food, the DIL always gets taken advantage of and is left without food.
I'm 17 years older than my husband. We just hit it off and have a lot in common and have been together for 14 years. Neither of us think about age, we think about compatibility and how much we love each other. His parents didn't blink twice about my age. It didn't matter to them either. They are just happy that he is happy.
@Kimberly Tifft it's different when the male is older. Some mentality that the man has to be older. Unless there is a really huge age gap, especially these days.. gold digger etc is normally mentioned

Same. I was 18, at least when mine started coming in. My mother told me her family would get theirs early on in life, so to not be shocked. I barely mind it nearly 40. It's all around here and there, hardly noticed, I like them ^^
My mother in law hated me when she found out my parents were the same age as her oldest son and she was the same age as my grandmother. It was horrible.
I would never let that toxic woman back into my life. She abused poor Ben all his life. OP needs to make sure she never finds their new address and block her on every avenue.

Well, I'm glad it ended in Grethcen's favour, but Ben should have stepped in long ago and put his mother in her place. That place preferably being anywhere his poor wife isn't! And as for the 5 burger thing? Yeah, that was gonna backfire no matter what. Although i thought it might be a "Gretchen! I can't believe you didn't even THINK to get me something to eat. This is typical of you, always leaving me out!" So I was presently surprised it went a different way. Although the journey was different, the destination was the same. That destination being "Goldie did it out of spite". What a witch! Although, personally, I'd swap the "W" for a "B"!
Would have been funny if OP fought back her MIL's old woman comments by reminding the MIL to act like the adult she claims to be. I mean she did once but do it more. I wonder how the MIL is doing now? She has to work to pay rent & I can't help but imagine she did go complain to people she knows. To her horror everyone is pissed at her & calling her a terrible mom/mother-in-law. Probably start telling her to act her age instead of behave like a child. The MIL while not happy is forced to see OP was right along with the possibility of losing friends. Maybe one day when she wishes her son would return again she gets a message from OP. It tells the MIL she's a grandma now & OP is contemplating slowly allowing the MIL back into their lives if she can behave.
Pretty sure the niceness gene skipped his parents, chances are his grandparents taught him to choose his kind side. They say your child in rebellion wants to be the opposite of their parents, so remember that when you have kids, kindness is not a weakness and people who use you bc your a kind person are EVil. I don't see any difference between mother in law and any other abuser

First, why would she listen ad buy only burgers? Who cares what her MIL says? Just say in front of everyone, the guests and all:"GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! NOW!" Then I would show the messages and say all she does. And that the food was payed with my money. I would tell her straight in the face what I have. And that she keeps crap on me because of 5 year gap.

I wish I could freeze-frame my kids and family as well but time happens, life is change!! And even so, there's no reason to be rude about it, what a nasty rude oblivious bully- who is not a good example of a lady at ALL
My grandmother's neighbors had quite an age gap. He was 26 and she was 46 when they got married. They were happily married for 30 years til he passed at 61. He treated her like a queen.
If she thinks that’s an age gap, you should see my parents age gap, 31 years!!! 5 years is perfectly normal. If she is an old bat? What does that make you?! That makes you ancient! Your insulting yourself
The fact the Beth continually says she's only 20 years older than Gretchen makes me laugh! That makes Beth old enough to be Gretchen's mother. I'm only 16 years older than my eldest, and 17 years older than my second, who's fiance is old enough to be my younger sister. (6 years younger than me). But I still love her and treat her like my daughter, as she's the woman who makes my son happy.
5 year difference between couples actually is normal, i honestly feel bad for ben and his lady for that. Im pretty sure Bertha is just butt hrt because she wants grand babies (keep in mind i havent even gotten to the middle of the video as i type this)
I'm 10 years older than my husband. And I had no desire to date anyone younger than me ever but we fell for each other. Don't understand what he sees in me but he's happy.
It's really a classic case of a mother refusing to let her child leave the nest and resenting anyone who gets between her and her child. All Beth did was alienate her son because she cant stand to see others happy if shes not happy 🥺
I love the absolute hell the MC gives the MIl the entire time
Good grief! Ben is 34 years old and his mother has been taking his paychecks since he got his first job at 16?!
Some parents are like that, sadly. They feel their kids need to pay them back for taking care of them for nearly 18 years.
Also these moms obsessively love their sons. Hate hubby if still have one and know they can't survive w/o son.
I was 29 and my wife was just shy of 39 when we married. That was 42 years ago and we are still together.
If she keeps calling op Goldie the Oldie, try calling her Bertha the Butt 🤣
To me, she'd be "Beth the B**ch" but I can be petty like that.
That's hilarious
You forgot the 'head' at the end of that...
Bertha the Bubble~Butt.
Nice one. Almost choke on my late morning ☕🤣

Beth is fully grown woman but she’s acting like an annoying immature child and a bully.
She must have peeked in high school, and why does this woman have my aunt's name, she is using it horribly, my aunt is noting as this woman
The one buying the burgers should have seen that 6 people and being told to only buy 5 was odd. She should have just bought 6.
I would’ve brought an 8-pack.

I love how the despicable MILs in these stories have a voice similar to the ones of a chicken that needs to get strangled
My favourite MIL voice is the one where she is very gravelly and reminds me of a stereotypical Jewish mum...(no offense to anyone intended)
