  • King Andrias... The infamous tyrant, mad king, and first big antagonist of the Disney Channel classic, Amphibia. Andrias instantly became a delightful villain to the world of the show ever since his mysterious introduction, and also for his ruthless actions towards our heroes, showing that he is determined to do anything to come out on top, expressing himself as the soon to be mighty conqueror of worlds. But, every evil has an origin, and we learn as the show continued that this "Prideful Tyrant" had more pain to him that meets the eye. The burden of his crown, the weight of his work, the fear of failure and above all... that he had to get rid of everything to live up to his title.
    Let us venture on this quest to learn what led Andrias to be where he is, to learn that this King wasn't always so prideful and heartless, but in fact, was simply a caring prince that had lost his way

      The Core is the sort of thing that, on paper, could have a noble purpose, preserving the knowledge and wisdom of an entire civilization for the benefit of their descendants.
      But by it's nature, if it goes wrong, it's only going to get worse with time. The Core is made up of Amphibia's 'greatest minds' but really this just means the minds that stroke the core's vanity. i.e. Minds like those that already exist within the Core.
      Controlling, power hungry, fearful of death. That's all the core really is in the end.

    One thing I noticed is that Lief would probably have NEVER gotten an audience with Aldrich. You kind of breezed over the fact that Aldrich was talking about getting rid of her- and that was something that Andreas saw as HIS FAULT. At that point, he’s still trying to stand up for her, before he finds that Lief stole the key.
    Similarly, with MARCY, the core flat out wanted Marcy dead as soon as she arrived. Actually, I have the hunch that Andreas wasn’t so petty about Marcy beating him at Flipwart, so much as it was one of the things that kept the core seeing Marcy as USEFUL, that she was smart and would be a good host. Had she never done that, he probably would have kept making excuses to keep her alive, but of course, when he found out what the core decided to use her FOR, he was unable to make any such excuses for her, the core wanted Marcy dead, possibly as soon as she had given up the power to charge her gem… but then she beat him at Flipwart and the core changed its plans.

    I love the tragedy behind andrias. From the moment the core made its debut it was clear he wasn't "The REAL Villain" and that he was just a pawn of something greater. When we become aware of his backstory we can see that Andrias isn't a pure villain but, rather, a Failed Hero. He is a mirror that reflects "The Bad Ending" for the trio; he is/was strong kind and clever all in one character; but what he lacked was SUPPORT. The girls each had an opportunity to grow after they were separated because of the companions and communities they found themselves with, whereas andrias had nothing but scorn and regret for company when he split from his friends.
    The core is the embodiment of what happens when you "close yourself off". it is a massive ball of concentrated selfishness. Fearing death, craving power, clinging to the past; they're all feelings that come from loneliness, from not having any close bonds with other people. And the Core is also an explanation for Aldrich's abuse of andrias, because when immortality in the core is in your future, it's all you think about; your friends, your people... they're not going to be with you in the core, they're beneath you. And if you're going to join with the core later, you had best be treating the core with due respect before then. The world and the people in it don't matter except in the ways they benefit your future with The Core, that's why Aldrich looks at Andrias' childhood friends as if they were just toys to keep him busy until he came of age to begin his REAL responsibilities and wished to dispose of them the moment they weren't useful.
    I've often compared Andrias to Darth Vader, even moreso after All In. And it really highlights just how sinister the core really is. So we know Andrias had his life unnaturally extended via cybernetics. And those modifications were clearly pretty invasive and probably painful. I feel like his becoming a cyborg was the core's PUNISHMENT to him for ruining their legacy and standard of living. The core refused him his birthright of eternal life inside it, forcing him to work FOREVER to redeem himself; not to mention making him live a thousand years meant that if he ever made friends again then he would be GUARANTEED to see them die. Sheds some light on "WE are all you need, WE are all you will EVER HAVE!" He could maybe have a friend for, what, ONE lifetime? But, no matter how many other people come and go, Andrias was ALWAYS going to have the core's eye judging his every thought. And so, since the core was the only entity that would always be with him, it meant he would have to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to gain its approval, to gain the love he no longer deserved from his friends and that his father always refused to give him. And, in much the same way as Vader, as soon as he realized that he DID have people who loved him unconditionally, despite his sins, that he no longer wanted anything the core could give him and was finally willing to do what he had always known was right but he never had the courage to do. (When vader, through his own actions, lost the person he loved most, all he had left to sustain him was pain and anger. It was when he realized that he had a son, one that loved him and saw his good nature that even he had tried to forget about, and a son that would rather die than kill him, that he finally stood up against his master and killed him for the good of the galaxy. Because all of the power in the world means nothing compared to Real Love)

Their immortality and immense knowledge caused them to develop a god complex, and by offering their subordinates a chance to join them (as well as their power to attack the current king/queen's mind via the crown) they managed to indoctrinate every ruler who sat on the throne. Manipulating them into carrying out plans that would benefit their own self interest.

    This is definitely a great and detailed analysis video about Andrias. It is also a plus that the analysis starts with the events between Andrias, Barrel, and Leif. Even though Leif was trying to do what was best for Amphibia, it doesn't change the fact that she did betray him. The worst part is that Andrias was caught between the pressure of his family's legacy and his friendship with Leif and Barrel. He was on the fence about wiping out an entire race, but the pressure of what is expected of him was too much. We really don't know if Andrias would have made the right decision in the end because Leif took that choice away from him. In the end, despite their friendship, Leif ultimately didn't trust Andrias to do the right thing, especially after her attempt to convince him failed. He snapped at her, and despite Andrias sincerely apologizing her, Leif still betrayed her friend. This ultimately led to the visions that Leif saw coming to pass. It does hurt that Andrias and Leif's relationship ended on a bad note, especially when it was implied that they were more than just friends. How different their lives would have been if their friendship was able to endure what happened. It just makes sense that Leif would play a pivotal role in Andrias' defeat, since her actions also played a crucial role in him becoming a villain. I am glad that Andrias was able to make amends for all the harm he has done, and that Andrias had symbols of his friendship with Leif, Barrel, and Marcy in his final scene in the series.

    When Andrias accepts his punishment, you get the feeling he doesn't care if he lives or dies anymore. Staying alive was more about fulfilling his purpose, joining the Core felt more like it was about being told he accomplished his duty. When he Andrias rebels he accepts all that is left for his death, and when the Core attempts to destroy Amphibia he's more concerned about the planet than himself.
    The Core being unable to grasp why Andrias isn't interested in eternal life is a great moment that shows how narrow minded the machine is. It was created for and joined by evil people looking to escape death, all of whom have assimilated into the machine's collective mind. So it can't understand why someone wouldn't be afraid to die.

    I often find letting the villain go free to be a exasperating or even harmful trope, but in this case it seems good.
    Like I feel this teaches us to look into others lives and see the humanity they still have. And it teaches those who cut themselves off to open up again because it's right and good to do.
    I think when we see Andrias again he is still a little closed off from others, because the chains he has seem to be a symbol of his need to make up for what he's done and thinking himself unworthy of love, but he has let himself feel.
    He has embraced how much his memories mean to him, and hopefully one day he will feel free to be with others and teach them the lessons it took him a painfully long time to learn.

I do think it is an interesting parallel of two characters who, although of very different reasons, where puppets of others (the core and Sasha). One, because it was inmature and didn't know herself, and the other because of all the weight of his ancestors and this feeling of failure, so their turning point being followed by the same line is rather satisfactory and it works pretty well imo.

After this amazing season and finale, Andrias was elevated to being one of my favorite villains in fiction not just because he’s voiced by two of my favorite voice actors/inspirations (Zeno Robinson in his youth and Keith David in present day) but also because he’s got such a well-rounded backstory, interesting personality, great design, fantastic lines and just an amazing payoff of a character. He’s not evil just for the sake of being evil, his unfortunate circumstances molded him into the terrifying tyrant he was in the present day. Just like another fictional tragic overlord we may know.

    Really? I always interpret the core holding the reward of immortality as a way of showing the core, and maybe by extension of his father, doesn't know what Andrias really wants. Andrias never struck me as wanting immortality, but to redeem himself for his "mistake" with leaf.

    Honestly the entire concept of the conquest was really short sighted if you consider that trade deals and tourism would basically grant the same results the core was looking for, just across a longer timeframe.

    Words cannot express how much I LOVE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT ANDRIAS! This King inspired me to write and become creative of his arc! All though, I would really want to see a spin-off of amphibia about the Core's origin. Whose idea was it to conquer in the first place, what's the deal with Andreas ancestors (like what's their personality, what was it like when they conquer different worlds, were they were born in some like alien pod thingy (which would explain why ANDRIAS don't have a mother??), what did they do inside the core), what was amphibia like BEFORE THE STONES EXIST! Maybe Marcy's journal would give us the whole answer, HEAR ME OUT! in The Hardest Thing she said, "I know it more then anyone else (Talking to ann about the Core)," meaning that she knows ALL THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE CORE... ALL... so, she know ALL the secrets within the Core's minds. And hopefully she would write them down in her journal, and in Marcy's journal we can learn more about the core and the livaitans' lore...

They both have cruel and manipulative fathers that told them to redeem themselves if they capture a certain goal:Zuko was capturing Aang and Andrias retrieving the Calamity Box.They had to hurt the people that gave them light: like, Iroh, Leif, and Marcy.They both have backstories

    I am so proud of Andrias he has been through so much pain his father never loved him he only wanted him to do what he and his ansestors did take over worlds and Aldrich made him believe his friends were going to use him and take advatige of him which when Leif and Berral betrayed him he belived and the Core controled him and provented him in finding happyness again but when Marcy came into his life he kinda did untill the Core wanted him to kill her but he did not want to then the Core wanted to posses her but he did not want the Core to do that to Marcy that is when he started to see that the Core his father and ancestors where bad people and he was starting to regret it he really made a change when Sprig read Leifs letter that he started to think apout all the mistakes that he made and that his friends Berral Leif and Marcy never left his side and they were always his friends and the moment where he destroyd his crown and stood up for him self is a incredable moment for him he basicly freed him self from his father and the Core and now he is no longer the King free from his fathers and the Cores control free to be his own person and free to open up his heart to love again just like he did with Leif and Berral and of corese Marcy

    I love this video surrounding Andrias. He is ultimately my favorite character from the show. Despite every heinous act he’s ever done, I can’t help but feel awful and very sad for him. Andrias’ breakdown in All In is what made my heart shatter the most. After being betrayed by his best friend, he spent a millennium of his life hiding in the shadows and being isolated from the rest of the world, living in a long state of depression. Aldrich and the Core’s manipulation and abusive arrogance is what drove Andrias into becoming a tyrannical dictator. He truly does have a heart and cares deeply about his loved ones. The one time where he’s finally opening up again is when Marcy came into his life. Andrias was actually happy for the first time in centuries, that he could create new lovable memories with his new friend. Sadly, that new friendship was wrecked in the hands of the Core. What Andrias did to Marcy was heartbreaking and devastating, but he had to wait 1000 years to achieve the one thing that keeps his ancestors legacy alive. He never wanted to commit those courageous acts, but he had to in order to not disappoint his father once more. I’m very pleased with what the writers did with Andrias in the finale. He realized all the mistakes and misery he caused to others and decided that he is no longer that type of person. He stood up to his outrageous father and master and was willing to help save the world. I wish they kept that deleted scene where Marcy looked back at Amphibia during the final battle. It shows that she’s proud of Andrias for doing the right thing and that he’s a changed person. Although Andrias can’t bare to look at Marcy for everything he’s done to her, it’s a huge step for Marcy to even say goodbye to what could’ve been a father figure towards her. At least Marcy still deeply cares about Andrias, but will only remember him for all the fun, happy times that they’ve shared together. I’m glad Andrias is finally free and living at peace in the end. He’ll spend whatever time he has left truly giving back to what he once destroyed. That’s what makes a great ending for redeeming a villain. They realize the error of their ways and try to atone for their actions. Andrias will always cherish the memories of the people he loves most and can finally live happily ever after. I loved Andrias as a villain though. Being a ruthless, evil, sinister tyrant, while still having a fun, goofy personality. Absolutely hilarious. Andrias may never be able to forget the past, but there’s a bright future ahead of him for what he’s doing now. Healing and providing a new life for Amphibia. King Andrias is now my favorite character out of Keith David’s roles. What an incredible voice actor for an outstanding character. Amphibia is my favorite series of all time. It’s been one hell of a roller coaster for all these wonderful, creative, and adventurous characters. Andrias has truly earned my respect.

      The letter Leif wrote to Andrias tells me that they were more than just friends I think they loved each other Andrias blushes and looked away during Leifs dance, the secret messages to each other, Andrias the frist to rush to Leif after she fell to her hands and knees after the vission, the worried look on his face, Leif crying into Andrias, Andrias the one that took her betrayl the hardest and his blushing tears in his eyes and scraming her name when she left, and Leif dubbing her self as "your Leif" and her calling him my derest Andrias and saying I wish my love will reach you. Also in the painting Andrias and Leif are looking at eachother and there is a art that Matt Braly did Andrias Berral and Leif are back together and they are on his sholders and Andrias and Leif are looking at eachother.

    Andrias - What do you mean? This is my crown.

      I think it's a symbol of how, just like Anne, Andrias has finally broken free of the toxic relationships he was enslaved to, fully made peace with letting go of what he couldn't hold onto forever, and come to cherish the good memories he made with the few friends he had instead of burying them under bitterness. Because throughout the show, Andrias has been a foil to Anne in particular.

  • @acorn0

    Part of me wonders if Andrias maybe recognized that Sprig was a descendant of Leif. He knew that Leif was a gardener and then meets a family of frogs who are farmers and one of them has the same skin color as Leif. Marcy points out that she has never seen a frog who had the same skin coloring as Sprig. That makes me wonder if having pink skin is a possibly recessive genetic trait that Leif passed down to her offspring.
    Then there is also the parallel of Sprig and Anne's friendship and Andrias and Leif's friendship. Andrias seeing Anne and Sprig's bond reminded him of the friendship he used to share with Leif and Barrel, thus leading to the "That's the thing about friends..." line, showing that he was truly hurt by Leif's actions and having someone there that reminded him of the friendship he used to have with her hurt even more.

    Upon finishing watching Amphibia, I get the funny feeling every time I compare Andrias with Hunter from The Owl House. They were both trying to live up to the expectation of their parental figures (Aldritch and Belos), and ended up standing up against such parental figures. It even gets funnier to me when I’m reminded that Zeno Robinson (fantastic VA) also voiced Andrias albeit his younger self.
    Anyways, they’re differences are way too huge that they strongly display their uniqueness as characters.

    Monarchies function by having the monarch lead until they're too old and abdicate or they die and the crown is handed to their heir. Andrias wasn't allowed to sire an heir, let alone find love. He wasn't allowed to have friends. Heck, he wasn't even allowed to DIE. The core made him mutilate himself physically and mentally so he would live long enough to fix his mistake.
    And when he finally did fix his mistake, the core made him give them a body instead of allowing him to join them. The core wasn't satisfied with advising a puppet king, they wanted to take charge in person. Andrias did absolutely everything for their approval, but given how they desired a body of their own and to be in direct control... would they have even allowed him to join once he died?
    Maybe Andrias was always meant to be the last living king of Amphibia, ultimately supplanted by some kind of undead AI amalgam of every king that came before him.

    I used to compare Andrias to King Asgore from Undertale, both being kings who do the wrong thing with good intentions, but later we learned that Andrias seems to enjoy what he's doing (while Asgore constantly harbors regret).
    The thing is, we also see how Andrias has some form of guilt and regret for his actions when Marcy was being possessed by the Core, and we learned WHY he became the way he is.
    So the one big difference between the two kings is Asgore did what he did out of pain and hopelessness. He could've stopped anytime but believed what he was doing would pay off while Andrias also did it out of pain, but he was under heavy manipulation by his own father to where he seemed to fully enjoy the idea of conquers earth.

    • @jjtheraccoon61
      @jjtheraccoon61 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right on the head. Most of Andrias' "sadistic enjoyment" was completely fake-he harbored a lot of regrets afterward that he had to keep hidden from the Core. What he _really_ enjoyed every moment of was his friendship with Marcy. And he also assists the heroes with his remaining Frobots, sending them to push back the moon with the Calamity girls.

While this cartoon is geared towards comedy there's actually is a story arc especially for one of the main characters scratch the ghost. There are few videos on TH-cam about this series but as far as I can tell they're really isn't major detailed video about it

      I have heard of the that show, actually just waiting for the rest of it's episodes to be moved from cable to Disney+ so I can watch the rest of it, but yeah, could be interesting to cover something around the show like I did with this

    Who do you think more complex, Andrias or Belos? I'm not asking whos a better villain, just who may be the more complex character

    • @MidgardMadness
      @MidgardMadness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Each have their own aspects that make them super interesting, specifically with falling under the topic of manipulation. Andrias was the victim of the topic and it's tragic to watch as he genuinely had a good heart while he was prince, and Belos being the main cause of it as we see how he controls and warps the world and people around him.
      Both are honestly equally as complex, but I would say *maybe* Belos with just how well it's weaved into the over all aspect of the show

      @@MidgardMadness God, Disney have so many great villains. Personally I normally like much more the villain than the hero in many stories.

    • @MidgardMadness
      @MidgardMadness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A majority of the music I consider using for my videos actually come from games I massively enjoy, especially since a lot of their soundtracks can be under appreciated. So yeah, 1. I love halo and it's music and thought it would work great, and 2. knew it was the right piece when I learned it was called "Never Forget," so fitting for what the character has gone through

    No, no, but this is why the caste is what it is -
    Toads rule over frogs, frogs are at the bottom, and newts (kind of?) are at the tippy top away from everyone else.
    All because Andrias hated Leif.

    • @jjtheraccoon61
      @jjtheraccoon61 ปีที่แล้ว

      And the Core kept it alive-I don't think Andrias really wanted to oppress those "below" him-the Core constantly fanned the flames to eliminate his hang-ups regarding holding that grudge. And now this caste system has eroded over time, and the species are all equal again in the eyes of the law.
