  • God has given His people instructions as to who is to be our leader. Can we serve two masters? Should we obey the laws of a nation? Should we be involved in politics?

Thank you Lord for your inspiration because in France we also have elections very soon
One question: what does the ARSH reference mean?
Thank you and happy Sabbath for everyone...

There is a real connection also in voting that is the same as hiring an employee. The employee we hire may steal something yes, so we check them as best we can before hiring them.

    1) Who gets to decide what's political and what's not political?
    2) What are the criteria to decide what's political and not political?
    3) What to do about the Sabbath if it is deemed in near future as being political to defend the 7th day Sabbath? Are you going to keep silent? Yes or No?
    4) Whatever your answer to question 3, please explain?

Hello and thank you from your questions. This is the definition: The science of government; that part of ethics which consists in the regulation and government of a nation or state, for the preservation of its safety, peace and prosperity; comprehending the defense of its existence and rights against foreign control or conquest, the augmentation of its strength and resources, and the protection of its citizens in their rights, with the preservation and improvement of their morals. Politics, as a science or an art, is a subject of vast extent and importance.
When it comes to laws being proposed, the citizens should vote.
The Bible is very clear on who decided who was going to lead a nation. Was it His people to decide or God?
      ‭Deuteronomy 17:14-15 KJV‬
[14] When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me; [15] thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.
God didn't tell His people for them to decide.
He also said what the leader was to do
      ‭‭Deuteronomy 17:19-20 KJV‬
[19] and it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: [20] that his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.
It was to be a man who fears God and obeys His commandments. Does the person do that? Does he obey the 4th commandment (Saturday)?
This is why we must wait for Him who's right it is (Jesus) to be King. We must obey the laws as long as they do not inflict with God's ordinance.

No. Trying to save this world through politics is like trying to shovel water out of the titanic. Also, any person that God set up in there is only to bring down this system and usher in his kingdom.

I don't think it is wrong to vote. I will keep my voting and political views to myself, and I will not stress over the outcome of the election, because "God is sovereign in the affairs of men." But voting is a privilege denied to most of the world's inhabitants and I cannot casually throw it away.

Thank you for your comment. My question is, what does the word of God say about who decides who is placed in to rule?
      ‭Deuteronomy 17:14-15 KJV‬
[14] When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me; [15] thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.
Today it is said that one will vote for who is less evil. Is that what God said in the past? No. The person must keep His law and obey them. That is why we must wait for Jesus who will be King.
We must still obey the laws of a nation. Romans 13
The first day of the week is not a day to be reverenced. It is a spurious sabbath, and the members of the Lord's family cannot participate with the men who exalt this day and violate the law of God by trampling upon His Sabbath. The people of God are not to vote to place such men in office, for when they do this, they are partakers with them of the sins which they commit while in office. 14LtMs, Lt 95, 1899, par. 3

The Sabbath is a day of rest. It is a day separated by God to dedicate that time to God. This is a test for God's people. This would be conflicting with His law.

You are comparing apples and oranges here. There was no voting in ancient times for any political positions; there were no political positions in monarchies, the people had no say in anything. The citizens of the USA have the Constitutional RIGHT to vote and make decisions in this system of government to elect leaders to represent the people and do as THE PEOPLE want. We do not have a king that establishes and sets their will over us. We fought a long and bloody war for this very thing. Ideally, WE choose who our POTUS will be, and that outcome will already be known to, and decided by the Father; nothing happens without His knowledge our outside His will. We are spiritual Israel, not the physical Israelites and what pertained to them in the physical world and their statutes DOES NOT WHOLY pertain to us. We are to defend the weak and the innocent, to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. The best way as Christians to do so in this country is to vote with forethought and conscience in CONTINUAL prayer and humility to put God's desired people in the positions of office to influence our nation and the world to do just that. The Lord's righteousness, grace, peace, and love be upon you all. Amen.

The Father does not decide all things in this, satan’s world, but allows the great controversy to play out.

As Christians I do not believe we should vote in such elections regardless of the constitutions. Why? We might kid ourselves that we are actually participating in the Government's elections and doing our part; but really it is all in God's hands, 'God removes kings and setteth up kings'. Dan 2:21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
Some things have to go a certain way and man no matter who it is can't change this; they may delay it but in the end prophecy will be fulfilled, and things need to get worse before they get better,. Personally, I think this is a good thing, because it means that our Lord and Savior will be on his way sooner than later, and I want him to come sooner so by God's grace we can go home to be with him.

@@onlytruth4me915 You make good points; however “all” is not part of Daniel 2:21. God certainly sets up, but He also is letting sin and sinful choices take their course as well.

But what about men of God who ran for political office and did good. Men like William Wilberforce who was instrumental in the abolition of the British slave trade?
Also, these Ellen White quotes do not sound like she's saying not to have anything to do with politics. It sounds like she is saying pastors should focus on preaching the Gospel and not party platforms. And that Christians shouldn't take part in political parties do to the strife it will cause in the Church body.
