    This video is an intermediate to advanced printmaking demonstration of a drypoint engraving created on drafting film (also known as Mylar or Dura-Lar), using a simple sketch, and watercolors.

    This was great Belinda! I keep meaning to do more with watercolor on my prints, such a good way to add color without extra plates etc. Happy printing!

      Thanks, Graham! I hope you *do* add some watercolor to one of your prints! I think the effect would be particularly fun on one of your mechanical creatures! I'll be watching for that!

    Thanks Belinda for another very informative video. My workspace always ends up in a mess so I must try your methods of tidiness. Love your blog too. You have a very nice way with words. :)

      Hi there, Ellen Bennett ! Thanks for your kind comment. My workspace is a mess too, but I do like a speedy clean up! I'll have to pan the camera around so you can see my mess - I think art-supply-tornado is required if you're making art. :)

    I really thought that you would be adhering the drypoint on Mylar onto the mat board (with spray adhesive)...............is there a reason that you did not do this? I am just interested.?
    Very good instructive video Belinda - as always ?

    • @bdelpesco
      @bdelpesco  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Aine, I don't mount the mylar to the mat board because I keep one mat in that size, and I use it for all prints that need a little lift if the plate matches that dimension. Also, I print very small editions, so after I printed this one, the mylar plate goes into an envelope with the prints, and gets filed. Thinner storage with no mat or thick plate. :)

  • @beckerabstracts
    @beckerabstracts 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you make a larger edition with this process than you can with the mat board process? Do you number these prints or does it matter since you are painting each one differently anyway?

    • @bdelpesco
      @bdelpesco  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bridget Becker - I suspect you'll get larger editions from the collagraph, because the curbs & ledges of your shapes are much deeper, but I've never tested that, as I always make small editions. And yes, I number all prints if they are part of an edition, even with media added. You can add E.V. after each edition number if you prefer, which stands for "edition varies". It's good practice to let your collectors know how many prints you made from that plate.

      Hi Jan, Also explore local options for trying printmaking methods and presses, like junior colleges, universities, printmaking artists that offer workshops, etc. I printed on borrowed presses for a decade and it was an excellent way to meet and work with other printmakers and "survey" the press options.
