    This is a nice design. Looks like it has a great chance of a tight fit to the face, which is infinitely more important than what the pinhole police are trying to suggest. Insert a non-woven filter for the protective element.

      @danliutikas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I just made this mask. I was correct in my assumption that this design can have a tight fit to the face. It's an excellent fit around the entire perimeter. Next one I make, I will extend the sides a little more and just fold over to create a channel for the straps/bands. This will give flexibility to either sew in straps/bands or to fold over and insert different types of straps. Overall, the pleated nose and chin design is a winner, excellent fit.

    This is the best pattern i have seen. Our employees actually likes wearing it.
    I reduce the pattern to 90% because majority of them have smaller face. And also i also made small ones for the kids

    My son came home with a commercial mask made like this one which I deconstructed but could not figure out how to replicate. I spent a lot of time searching the internet and finally saw your pattern which is the same as the one I was trying to make. Thank you. This is a great fitting mask that does not cover more area of the face than necessary.

    My notes for basic version, no twist wire.
    1. Cut out three pieces from pattern, allow 1cm (0.5 inch) extra to be trimmed off later
    2. Fold one piece in half, and sew together two short edges from fold. (not all the way around!)
    3. Repeat step 2 for each piece
    4. Place all 3 pieces inside each other and sew together two long edges, (not edge used for elastic strap)
    5. Sew in one end of elastic on each side, adjust length to fit with safety pin, and sew when fits
    6. Trim off excess material
    Some suggestions for Busy Little Guys future videos, it helps to just use white material and dark thread for the video, as shows up what you are doing. People can always use patterned material, thread that does not show once they know what they are doing.

    Great tutorial, but you should avoid using pins as these put holes on the mask and makes it less effective. Use clips or pin at the edges.

    • @sharonconnell7044
      @sharonconnell7044 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pine are normally used by designers when making garments so no it is not less effective. A simple wash and dry helps close the gaps.

    • @TrainsFerriesFeet
      @TrainsFerriesFeet 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those saying washing will close the gaps are wrong; it's not about aesthetics, it's about keeping viruses from getting through the mask. It's no wonder COVID-19 cases are skyrocketing - people are clueless.

    • @dshowat
      @dshowat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      waccamatt just saw you comment. Guess you don’t agree with this whole mask and it’s effectiveness then? Any sewing machine needle will have a cutting tip unless you change to a ballpoint tip needle which pushes the fibres apart. So if you don’t trust a pin you can’t trust the sewing machine on any mask made using one.

    This is a great design but there are so many places in the video where it moves way too fast and its not clear how to do certain steps correctly. I had to replay so many sections over and over. The pattern and tracing were unclear as you added space by sight on all sides (not a good idea for new sewers like myself), the elastic - very confusing. Do you have step by step downloadable instructions? I really like the design and I think it will fit great whenever I figure out the last details.

    How do u the sides? Im wondering how can u open both sides if u sew them already?

    • @sewingsource
      @sewingsource  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Before you put all three layers together. You already folded and sewn one layer so that layer is shorter than the other two layers. When you sew on the side, you sew only 2 layers, not 3 layers. You can set the playback speed at the setting to lower the speed down to see it clearly. I hope it help.

    At around 1:22 where the second layer is being sewn, it seems you sew them together and then cut the threads between them, and repeat that with the other layers? I'm not quite sure what happened although I've slowed the video down. Would you be able to clarify please, thanks so much :)

    • @sewingsource
      @sewingsource  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fold each layer in half and sew one side of each layer along the line that you drew it from the pattern until you finish all three layer and then do the same on the other side of all three layers as well.
      From the VDO. I don’t want to waste the threads so when I finished all three layers instead of clearing the threads and start sewing the other side. I cut the one that I finished one side already and flipped and sew the other side continuously.

      @ahench22 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is a dumb comment not only because it's rude but because it's also very apparent that you don't understand the point of fabric masks. They are not designed or intended not do any claim to be protective against the virus. Unless you're using HEPA vacuum bags, the virus is going to be able to get through the mask from the outside. The point of masks is to SLOW the spread not stop it, by keeping people's immediately exhaled breath from hitting just the air. It's a mini filter for your own breath, not an air filter for your lungs. The point is people will have something on their face instead of trusting them to cough into an elbow or sneeze and have all that flying in the air. It hits the mask first. So don't be rude and put something over your mouth, save a grandma and sit down please.

    • @marhawon
      @marhawon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The pin holes are temporary. If you steam press fabric or wash it the fabric melds back together. You do need to use a very tight woven fabric such as the nicer quilting cottons or that from an old pillowcase that is a 600 count cotton.
