Boniface (Latin: Bonifatius; c. 675 - 5 June 754) was an English Benedictine monk and the leading figure in the Anglo-Saxon mission to the Germanic parts of the Frankish Empire during the eighth century. He organised significant foundations of the Church in Germany and was made archbishop of Mainz by Pope Gregory III. He was martyred in Frisia in 754, along with 52 others, and his remains were returned to Fulda, where they rest in a sarcophagus which has become a site of pilgrimage.
I was born in the old Hessan empire and my grandmother was a Hesse and I still go to my sacred grove every day but with the light of the creator in my heart
thor was venerated by the northern germanic tribes,id est the skandinavians. the holy trees in germany were holy to wotan or donar. as the chief of the gods, the asen, wotan can be seen as the aquivalent to thor but in germany no one called him thor, just wotan or donar.
Boniface met a fitting end stabbed to death by Frisian bandits, as he was himself a bandit of the highest order, set on pillaging and overthrowing what was sacred to the Germans.
CE is historically more rigorous. AD originally had the underlying assumption that Jesus was born exactly in 1 AD. We of course now know that he almost certainly wasn't born in that year, but probably a few years prior. The equivalents of AD can be especially problematic, as they often (like in my native Finnish) literally translate as "after Christ".

Yes but you also need to start sacrificing babies and people to your pagan gods - if you want to be sincere and not hypocrite. If you are not sacrificing babies and people to your pagan gods and think that paganism is about dancing around trees and throwing flowers in water - then you should leave st. Boniface´s statues alone. Because I imagine you still prefere reality of christian civilization you live in than pagan one we are about to turn into. Including sacrificing of babies and people to gods. Paganism is demonic, you worship demons. It always ends with blood - always. If you believe it´s this romantic nature worship you know nothing about paganism. Not the ancient one not the current one because every demon worship ends the same. if the christian god really did "create the heavens and the earth and the trees, plants, animals and humans" it seems to me that cutting down the oak of Donar (Þórr or Thor, as you will) would also be an affront to the christian god alongside the gods of the Saxons. in the very same Hebrew writings that christianity adopted the same Hebrew or christian god both "created trees" specifically but ordered the destruction of groves of trees dedicated to goddesses seems to be very inconsistent and i don't believe that i could ever be loyal to a god who enjoys both "creating" and destroying trees no wonder that the Saxons were offended
Because men are evil and made an idol of it like Thor oak tree. Of course God would destroy anything that takes away our worship meant for Him. People bowing down and sacrificing to a created thing like a tree. SO It makes perfect sense Creator God has every right to destroy this Thor tree...cause God already gave Jesus as a sacrifice there is no and was no need to sacrifice people. We cannot make ourselves right with God on our own that's why Jesus had to die for us instead to make us right with God.

i believe that the Saxon chieftain that you mentioned was actually Radbod king of the Frisians
and yes
it is somewhat anecdotal
Thx for that! Yes I was talking about Radbod.

So many Greco-Roman and Northern European non-Christian worship sites have been lost unfortunately!
I was born in the old Hessan empire and my grandmother was a Hesse and I still go to my sacred grove every day but with the light of the creator in my heart
Maybe you could do videos with other civilizations first engaging with Christians? From the Baltics to East Asia and the Americas?
Defo on the cards! Would love to do the Northern Crusades and the Aztecs/Incas
So this is like going to Japan and burning down the Golden Pavilion or going to Korea and chopping down a village's sacred tree.
Thanks for this, very educational.
My pleasure! Thx for watching.
Another great video, I suggest you do an summary and commentary on Julian's Against the Galileans.
Great suggestion Gia! Defo in the pipeline. Suggestions for new videos are always welcome.

Yes in fact all Germanic tribes and northwards to Scandinavia had the same gods
Donar, Wotan, Vanadis, etc. they were the same deities with different names.
Good video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Today is 5th of June, and I was looking for a video about glorious St. Boniface. Thanks!
My pleasure!

Very sad that clergy who showed the most intolerance were considered as saints rather than being condemned for their actions.

As a Frisian I am very proud they killed him. according to their laws it was the logical result.
A video of saints and you use CE instead of AD. Weak
CE is the secular and modern equivalent and gaining in popularity so Ive standardized on that but I have no objection to using AD either.

Felt a bit Monty Python with the Wilibalds and the Bonifatis
But sincerely, these videos are splendid and I am grateful for them
Ha hah Monty Python! Glad the videos are of use.
Maybe we should start smashing statues of Boniface and steal back the church he built from the tree.
Hope to visit Germany and Hesse in the near future. Will definitely be making a video about the site!

Hi. The difference between God and the pagan gods is that God is objectively real and Christ is real while your idols fell with the tree
