Happy New Year , Mary. I am from the Midwest, but I used to live near the coast in South Carolina. My late mother in law was a remarkable decorator and entertainer… I miss her very much,. Your home and book reviews often remind me of her. She was raised in the south, and her husband was retired military…. Thank you for all of your walking tours of the beautiful gardens, and homes. 🍃

The book review was great, she is very talented. I Honor her Father and Thank him for his service,it makes me happy he was able to fulfill his Dreams,he deserved to. 🇺🇸 I wish everyone had wonderful memories with Grandparents,I certainly did.Inside decoration put up ,I took down 32 wreaths off my fence today ,our weather has not been great since Christmas. I do what I call a little winter decorating after Christmas that helps me to remove Christmas. ,also I put something on my doors outside. I am so ready for a week of doing NOTHING, I call it nesting, going no where except maybe lunch with friends, books, magazines, fireplace, and a nap,I can’t remember what that is,yes and some movies. Question, there are 2 ,what made you want to do a You tube video every week, and the second How did you all meet …….other question ask your husband if he has a relative that plays professional baseball, I know strange question 😂

Looking forward Mary, to another great year with you. Prayers for our own country and all our futures. Loved this book and will add to my 'collection'...Wishing I could have tasted your pralines as they are my favorite and will try your grandmother's recipe, no doubt. Thank you once again ~

I can only remember pralines from very early in my life, but I'm not sure my Mississippi mother ever made them. I do remember her making divinity, most often topped with a pecan half. The pecans came from my cousin's trees, and my grandmother separated the hulls from the nutmeats before they were shipped north to us. To this day, I prefer a good pecan to a walnut anytime.

Dear Mary, lovely review from a book by a designer who is familiar to us because of Ballard design. Thank you for sharing the story of her father.
In the past I always left Christmas decorations up til Epiphany or Russian Christmas, as my Mother called it. But this year I procrastinated until almost Valentine’s Day, for the tree. I started with little things until mind-January but I could not part with the glow of the lights on our dark, dreary evenings in the north. This vear it was very cold and very dark with snow. All all those cherished memories of our childhood days linger at the holidays. And those of us who love cooking tend to bring back the recipes for the cookies and candy of our youth. You wrote this blog several months ago, sorry, I am catching up. I loved seeing both of your cats follow you as you worked outside. Whiskers and ???
Have a very blessed day !

Hello Mary and Happy New Year! I enjoyed this review of Suzanne Kasler's book. I know of her through Ballard Designs and like her decorating style. I enjoyed watching you make the Pecan Pralines and might give this a try. However, I loved hearing you speak so lovingly of your Grandmother and thinking how lucky you were to have such a beautiful relationship. What would we do without memories? Tell Daniel "hello" and yes, I too look forward to seeing him again. Have a great week and I will talk to you in the next one! Hugs! :)

I always love your book reviews on Fridays! You are so gracious to all the designers and authors and I have met so many fabulously talented people through these reviews! I too have not put away our Christmas decorations, I am just enjoying the beauty of the season. I love Christmas so much and do hate to see it over. I don't mind leaving my decor up until Candlemas. You and Daniel are a great team! I could enjoy the two of you doing videos together on any subject, maybe southern things, I live in Ohio! Happy New Year ❤

So looking forward to your Q&A session. All the best, “Super Fan in Fort Mill.” ❤️🎶❤️

I’m with you on taking the Christmas decorations down. I’ve been slowly putting away the easy stuff, but haven’t touched my tree. I could say I’m lazy, but like you I have to work up to it. But I’ve begun realizing, I’m always so busy from Nov to Christmas I don’t have time to slow down and enjoy all my hard work. I just want to enjoy it a little longer and don’t really want to put it all away..yet.

Today is Jan. 5th, the last day of the 12 days of Christmas. Tomorrow, Jan. 6th, is when my decor comes down. It is also known as Three King's day in honor of the 3 Kings from the East or the 3 Wise men who visited Jesus. It is also the first day of Epiphany according to the Liturgical calendar, or in some places it's also known as the first day of Mardi Gras season!! I lived in Louisiana for several years, and there it is popular to remove the Christmas decor and replace it with Mardi Gras decor. I'm not sure why the rest of the country doesn't participate, but it was so much fun decorating things in Green, Gold and Purple--indoors and out! Even my tree stayed up and I replaced the ornaments with only green, gold or purple ornaments, and I had wreaths and garlands all over the house and outside in flashy, shiny--cheap--decor. We ate King Cake and participated in the different Krewe sponsored Mardi Gras parades. I even invited guests from around the country (mostly Texas and Tennessee) who came to join us just for the parades--which in Shreveport are like a day long tail-gate party with literally well over 200,000 people. Everything culminates in the final celebration on the actual day of Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, and all the decor came down on Ash Wednesday for the season of Lent. It wasn't New Orleans, I lived in the Shreveport-Bossier area, considered the 2nd largest area of the country for Mardi Gras celebrations. But it was a lot of fun, more "family friendly" maybe than New Orleans, and as I said, I don't know why more of the country doesn't enjoy those traditions. ...I really enjoyed the book review. I do like Suzanne Kasler and follow her on Instagram. Thank you for another wonderful review, and I look forward to the next and the Q&A.

Happy New Year 2024 and Happy Three King Day...forget about getting down our Christmas tree... we have octavitas...it means we continue the festivities until 8th and more...Mary the gathering, and the music continues in Puerto Rico..is a tradition . Maybe the one that is younger takes Christmas
Decor after the 1/6 .But those 50-year-olds and older people leave the Christmas Decor until Mid-month of January..the other 2/1...

It's so pretty but kind of pricey so I would love to see it before buying..- What does your husband do for a living and have you ever worked outside of the home? I’m like you, I don’t like to see Christmas decorations come down, but as a practicing Catholic, we celebrate for 12 days after….until the Epiphany of the Lord which is Sunday, January 6, when the Wisemen or Magi or Three Kings arrive from the Orient, bringing gifts to the Newborn King. The three gifts, gold, frankincense and myrrh are still of great significance in the Catholic Faith. Blessings for a new year. 😊

I have a question: I have a feeling that Daniel and you are not really bartenders 😂, I believe you said once that he works as an oceanographer, have you ever worked out said the home? Did you work as an interior decorator? Or maybe something to do with books? Your voice is amazing and comforting you should consider reading stories to people that are bedridden. AD has an article on the homes of Chanel. Living with Coco Chanel: The homes and landscapes that shaped the de...
by Caroline Young is another possibility. The people who did a biography of Coco Chanel may have better pictures than the interior book you have about Chanel. I think Architectural Digest might sell back issues?
I don't know why there are so many people who are posting things about Coco Chanel on TH-cam. Maybe it is because 200,000+ people are watching a man build her chateau in France. He does most of the work alone. Escape to Rural France. If you were to review the book you have, and the AD article to supplement, AD might want to sponsor your review?

You are a true animal lover! I was worried too. They often sit in the front garden and are fine. I stopped mid video and took them back inside. They were very curious about my planting.

I was feeling guilty about not taking down my Christmas decorations yet. Thanks for sharing that you haven’t either! It makes me feel better somehow. 🎄🫖🏠⭐️
