      @@HomeWorkouts_LS Joy's design is how an architect would design it, I thought, on the functional side and not too particular on aesthetic themes, just neutral palette, clean looks, and the use of elements like the exposed beams to define and create separation of spaces. It's open to the taste of different people coming in to visit, practical easy going. I'd pick her design for that modern renovation of a suburban kitchen, fits the brief just right.

    I enjoyed all three! Joy's was practical and elegant - my only critiques would be that the island and the large pendants obstruct the sight lines to the amazing stove and range hood, the range/sink proximity, and my preference for more comfortable seating than wishbone chairs offer. We couldn't tell from the rendering, but I suspect the couch would be an awkward fit at that table, as well. Noz's design was what I would want if I were a pop star doing her summer cottage in Barcelona. Very fun, designed cocktails and microwave popcorn. Darren knocked it out of the park on this for me. The rendering was dark, but that would be a very bright space in the daytime and the island/dining table combo was so organic and welcoming.

      I think the armchair was a great idea as far as comfort is concerned, but I agree with you that it would be an awkward fit. But I think if she kept the material and made it into a curved bench with a back rest, it would fit better and complement the round accents.

    i loooove darren's designs! he is my fave cause i love escapism and his designs are so otherworldly nd weird and quirky...Noz as well but she always sorta manages to reign in her weird and quirkyness loool nd infuse it with alot of bubbly pastel colours. joyce on the otherhand, that woman is a master of geometric hard shapes, which is a very difficult style to dabble in cause one tinny tiny wrong mistake in colour or material or anything else your design immediately looks tawdry, archaic and unbalanced in the most distasteful way possible lool. These three are amazing!

  • @dilpreetkaur9782
    @dilpreetkaur9782 2 ปีที่แล้ว +825

    Joy’s design is mass friendly but the layout is extremely problematic with the sink pushed up right next to the stove.
    Noz’s design started off really well and got chaotic with every element and looked like an over designed toy kitchen . The lapis lazuli with the spider legs was just too overpowering for the space which already had a million colours.
    Darren’s design started off very basic and boring but by the end was elevated to a dream kitchen! Very chic!

      I agree, Noz is usually my favorite designer of this series and while her style kitchen is more close to my personal style, Darren is the clear winner to me. When Noz added that island she lost me. I love the ceiling, the lights, but if she'd used a different table and island I think it would have looked way better, and I think it would have been nice to use those elements to match the simple color blocks of the cabinets and the fridge.

    • @jdcmr
      @jdcmr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Agreed. If Noz used something like a transparent island or a mirror effect then matched the top to her kitchen counter, or at least matched it with her cabinets, it might’ve looked better. I'm confused by Joy's decision to shorten the length of the wall cabinets and counter top along the window wall for no apparent reason, so you end up with one tiny countertop next to the sink and the sink is right up against the stove on the other side. She said she emphasizes function, but she has eliminated most of the storage in favor of a wall of refrigerators/freezers. Just kind of odd and somewhat bland.
    Also notable that Noz is the one who commented on not wanting a "chaotic" look -- then that design???

    Noz's design was succinctly summed up by herself in the final thoughts section, "Not having a client meant I could take what I always wanted to do in the first round before the ideas get more practical and just sort of end there." You can certainly see that here. There's no cohesion in the whole space. In this video as well as the last episode, the design elements and furnishings in her spaces might look ok or good individually, but it just doesn't go together.

      @@icycannonball I can understand that to an extent but my bedroom has well over 5 colors in it, although the palette, saturation and theme is consistent so it’s all unified and tied together. If you think of your room as a painting or film or some other piece of art, sometimes they look best with a monochromatic palette or with only a few key colors but sometimes they look incredible with the whole rainbow. It just depends on how you use color more than quantity of color if that makes sense. I think she was able to use color very effectively personally although I will admit that while I love this space it isn’t how I’d personally decorate it. If someone offered me to live there for free tho I’d take it 100%

    Joy’s design is the one that (personally) feels the only one that’s practical for a real life home. Darren almost created something that looks like it should be inside a train carriage. Noz’ design is interesting but it does feel a bit like something you’d find into a toy house. Joy’s design definitely is the most “standard”, yet is the only one that brings the outdated old design into a modern refresh while keeping it functional and inviting.

    I’m not loving Noz’s space but I love the elements of it here and there and the island and table that she chose are so beautiful. She always has an eye for special, unusual pieces and I’m here for it. Darren’s idea of the arched ceiling and opening up the space with more windows just really changed the whole space. His kitchen is one of a kind but I feel like I’d have to update it some years later and it doesn’t seem as inviting. Joy always make the space functional and out of all 3 I like here the most for practicality. The space is also light and easy on the eyes for me. It seems like a kitchen I can use years after years and cook in it without issues

    Some spectacular choices all the way around. Is it just me, or does Darren's design lack a cooktop and vent? The beauty of all three seems to depend on a kitchen that is kept sparse. For instance, I would have liked to have seen plates and glasses on Noz's glass shelves to see if they would work in such a busy space. Love all three for the way they created places to gather.

    All 3 are amazing designers! However ultimately I feel Joy’s kitchen was the best because it feels like an ideal kitchen. Noz, design was trendy particularly for what she mentioned as a kitchen that hasn’t been updated in 20-30 years. It’s a kitchen that would become dated quickly. Darren, design was certainly a hefty price point, still very dark, an occasional kitchen not for everyday living. Felt like he was designing a restaurant space oppose to a family kitchen. So Joy is my pick! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

    I love Noz work so much. She has such a good talent when it comes to color. Not only the combination of it, but also how to manipulate colors and light. So amazing. And yes. Her interior is bold. A pink kitchen faucet - thats a statement but for me she her designs are very basic not in a bad meaning but in the meaning of very liveable and very practical but with the hint of individualism and a touch of crazyiness.
    Joy is an amazing designer too. She has no own style. She really looks what customer wants and needs and moreove what is practiable and liveable. Getting her as a designer - you will never get wrong b/c she designs functional. she understands what is life about and she put it into the designs so that the furniture supports it.
    And Darren.. well Darren. I can see his creativity but these are not very liveable design. Yes in a hotel or maybe in a museeum, maybe a house in LA for 50 Millions. But look at this massive cabinets... 3 children, one dog and you in the mids of it trying to cook pasta and trying to find the noodles in those cabinets while the water is cooking, the dog is barking, the kids are screaming and ups is ringing at the door. hell no. this will never gone working.

    Darren's is my style. Darren's is what I would think up on my own and his designs would basically be there to like rope me into displaying my ideas. I like how Noz uses unique pieces and color. It's not my style, but as she kept adding elements to it the space became more interesting. I like to think of color being an important factor in design. I'm not that into open shelving, but from a design perspective I love the acrylic pink shelving. Joy's design I wasn't as into, and I do like how she takes more of an elevated traditionalist's approach. I just couldn't get past the flooring, moving the stove over, and then adding a washable velvet sofa to the round table. I think I would've liked it to be similar to Darren's in a way that the eat in kitchen is part of the island. Like it's a traditional island, but then there's like an eat in bench connected to it with column legs or something. I wasn't as into the stools or the lighting since it's been overdone a lot. Lighting and stools are where you can have more fun picking out unique fixtures that are statement pieces. I really enjoyed this type of video with 3 different designers, and I want to see more so I can drool over it.
