Mamizou is another character was heavily buffed between the two versions. She got a buff to her shot power like everyone, but it is very minimal. Before the patch, Mamizou was pretty bad for NB survival. Unrestricted, you could just build up level 2s and bombspam the progression bosses. For NB though, her route is hell before the new patch, to the point that the community consensus was that a Mamizou LNN ties with an Orin LNN as the hardest LNNs in this game. Her main difficulty came from Chiyari, due to her scope being the worst to deal with her fireballs, and Zanmu. The strat is to get an early Zanmu kill with level 3s, which is not that consistent. With the new update, Mamizou went from one of the worst shots to one of the better shots for story mode. Firstly, Chiyari got nerfed so that's one hard thing out of the equation. The main buff that really made her great was her level 3. The animals that she sends in her level 3 are now much faster and very hard to react to, especially the birds. Even the AI is terrible at dodging Mamizou's level 3. Now, getting the early Zanmu kill is pretty much guaranteed due to this buff, which makes Mamizou's route one of the easier ones due to these changes. As an opponent, she became harder also because of this. Also, side note, without the music patch, this route is 'interesting' with its music choices. For Mamizou's stage 1 and stage 2 fights, her own theme plays instead of The World is Made In An Adorable Way, which I actually like since it shows that she's the one in charge and more dominant. There's even precedent for it with Yuuka in PoFV who has her theme play in her fights against Reisen and Reimu. Her stage 3 fight against Yuuma has the lategame battle theme play instead of the usual midgame one, which is certainly an interesting choice. Next time is the first of the three matriarchs, where all three of them share a similar story structure with one another
I think the logic for being unable to leave hell is only notorious people can leave it. The beast leaders, zanmu, suika. The reason why they make you fight them while they're final boss is so they can give you discord perms to get out of hell. You could likely assume yachie or kutaka or someone did the same at the end of WBaWC. You could reason that Reimu was able to leave in HRtP because the rule didn't exist by the time of the first game, or, esp taking into account that newest info is the most canon, after humiliating konngara she gave reimu permission to leave.

Oh yay, actually got to catch one of these before I sleep for once after changing my sleep schedule... Mamizou was incredibly terrible in Story Mode pre-patch. Mainly because she had next to no defensive measures against pre-patch Chiyari, and her Zanmu fight is pretty rough. As for PvP though, hoo boy, she got a haul in this patch. The number of animals sent by her Lv3 was increased a lot, to the point where it becomes pretty easy to engulf your opponent with them at high attack levels on Lunatic. This comment here at 28:14? Yeah, not so much when you get things going now... Her LNN definitely got a lot easier now, that's for sure. Additionally, about her bomb. Since the bomb is an extension of the character's scope, Mamizou has 3 circles as her bomb. However each circle does a whole bomb's worth of damage. Because these circles slightly overlap, getting just a little bit of two of them overlapping on a boss just deletes their HP, which is very useful in a few scenarios, especially on pre-patch Lunatic if you were just doing a regular 1cc.
Also her main method of play doesnt make you super vulnerable now because now when generating bomb pieces you still do a level 1 charge spread so you can still kill enemies too instead of having to choose one or the other, which just makes her even more efficient at churning out big kabooms all over the screen and just outlasting the opponent simply with extra bombs
Not gonna lie, wished she could have met Ran in some point, i want to know how their interaction would be like in the actual story. Also, you know something is wrong with your lvl2 if the AI actually bombs/dies.
One of the things that aren't really shown in these videos because of your playstyle is the difference in bombing between the old and new versions. Bombs in this game are supposed to drain the gauge you have fully, but their duration is meant to change depending on how much gauge you actually have. This... didn't work correctly in the old version on many characters, Mamizou included... Which means that with that fixed in the new version, a bomb with a fully maxed gauge on top of having Nazrin's bomb duration extension card can be truly disgusting. In PvP, her playstyle of trying to turtle and then win the bomb wars used to be very brittle and ultimately not that reliable because her bombs were strong but very short; now, her lategame is completely unrivalled (assuming the meta ruleset where bomb-increasing cards are banned). It's just that she's still so difficult to survive with to get to that point...
Wait what was patched for Chiyari, the only difference i see is the Lv1 seems to shoot more Edit: Seems like Chiyari's EX expands first then starts chasing rather than pop out of nowhere
Basically the flames she sends over for her EX attack are nowhere _near_ as aggressive as they were pre-patch. I can say for certain the flames move at you slower, but I also think the radius for when they home in on you is smaller as well (I really wish there were detailed patch notes of what all was changed)
They have a very long spawn-in animation so you don't just randomly get instagibbed by one, and start at a much smaller size, which in turn makes them disappear faster and pose a much smaller threat overall. On top of that, her C2 can only enlarge them up to a smaller size than before. Still incredibly potent in PvP where combined with her boss spell you kind of just completely wall off your opponent from all sides, but playing against her in Story Mode is far easier than ever before...
Wait, the patch made it so she does shoot during the level 2 too and doesnt just get a bomb piece, that was her main downside that ZUN fixed, so why do you say that she doesnt in both the video and the description
I believe in the video with Orin’s route, RonOmega mentioned that he had prerecorded some of the stories with the older version of the game before the patch came out. He might’ve not realized the change with mamizou at the time this video was published.
