Came here from there, and I plan to make this my next D&D encounter music, they're going to fight this corrupted dryad :D gosh. (Loved that he mentioned in his video he came from a "punk/rock/d&d" school XD
Yep, I am drunk and jusrt now getting the music. He must have really liked prokofiev. Honesþly what a god send for us... this is a bit of a surprise that all the sudden it the peice is now makeing sense to me.
I was stunned and saddened to learn of Christopher Rouse's passing on September 21 of last year. I had the good fortune to have met him at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music after a brilliant performance of his amazing Symphony No. 2 at Mission San Juan Bautista. However, this piece, "Gorgon", is my very favorite of all his works and you can hear why - it's insane!!! But seriously, all his music has this wonderful propulsive energy that makes you feel ALIVE!!! RIP, Chris - you will be missed.
I trust your judgment. I used to do the same with prospective girlfriends by watching 200 Motels with them no later than the 3rd date. th-cam.com/video/cH15Rm_1ahk/w-d-xo.html
My immediate reaction to this was hrmmmmmm not really, but then I thought about it and thought 1984...this is before ANY death metal - let alone the technical stuff that actually sounds a bit like this - before any grindcore, this is even pretty early for thrash. The heaviest stuff that would have been around at this point was probably the crusty punk stuff, and that stuff is soooooo musically basic. When you add the fact that it would have been a full orchestra, seeing this in 1984 must have been mind blowing. I suppose Show No Mercy had been released by this point, but only just, and it's not really that heavy as far as I remember.
@@charliepotter100 Some of the more extreme avant-prog - particularly Belgium's Univers Zero and its offshoot Present - approached this, in musical language if not energy level. Both bands pretty clearly drew from "Rite of Spring", as does this.
Wonderful.I like his early music like this and Bump .Also trombone concerto .Flute and Violin concerto take a bit longer to appeal and are later s I suspect they are better !
I completely agree with the commenter below who said "Holy Shit." How can I not have known about this guy? The closest I ever heard to this is Creston's second symphony.
My gawd. Id forgotten h I w wild ChrisRouse is.Atonal Melodies that dont sound tonal and yhus score is just crazy.i heard this 7years ago. Geese!ive written like16 violin concerti 7for cello etc. BUT nothing as American wooly and wild as this. His pulse, change if meter, timbre shifts, mood shifts. It all dumbfounds!Scarifying!
Typically american contemporary music, brilliant, somewhat noisy, with very few true personnal idea or feeling, very much like John Adams. It's not so bad, but after hearing this, I always end thinking "John Williams and Jerry Golsmith have already done all this, with more style (in the case of Goldsmith at least) and less pretention...
@@AndrewRudin I didn't say that at all. I said this music, in my opinion, is as pointless as Adams. But you're wright nonetheless, I'm totally derranged.
Thank you Adam Ragusea

I literally could judge all my friendships by whether or not someone responded positively or negatively to this piece.

Oh my gosh Cavaliers 19 is gonna be so good.

Outra obra surpreendente de Rouse, com muita magia e força instrumental. Lindo!!!
Holy cow! It's a gem, big and nice gem!

My former teacher is such a genius!
I like your music. You were taught by C.Rouse?
It does say Gorgon...so why were you expecting nice?

Amazing!
Wow, I repeat WOW!
I listened to this once and I had to get the score to see the orchestration. It's available on Amazon for $45 if you are looking to purchase it.
It is widely available in the music section of HELL
Just kidding. You'd have a hard time finding it anywhere other than a University's music library.
Where can I find the sheet music for this at?
AWESOME

Holst - Planets
Creston's music is rather tame.
Wait, Paul Creston? He was a pretty restrained composer.
Stravinsky is always good. Or try John Adams!
Do not forget to listen to prokofiev and Honneger! The latter's 2nd and 3rd symphonies.

If you think Rouse plays 2nd fiddle to John Adams you are derranged.
Roy Harris and Walter Piston composed some wonderful works, imho.

@@catchoupiote All music is pointless if you approach it with that much of a pompous and pretentious attitude.
Sorry but it's my reaction and I just it express it. Can't see why it should make all music pointless...
