I've always like to think that coles personality is to keep the morale of his squad mates up. Like he knows how horrible the war is and the effect it has so he tries to offset it.
Jace was technically introduced in Gears of War 2, but it was pretty vague, he was one of the Alpha Squad members to touchdown into the locust tunnels. Marcus radios him telling him good luck.
Anthony Carmine is my all-time favorite. Looks and voice, all I need to like a character in MP. But extremely good points you made; setting aside the “Carmine Family”, can’t reload, died early, minimal voice lines. I agree with his placement.
Michael Barrick fan here! Love him as a character and his backstory. Former Stranded turned Hardened COG Gear during Operation Lifeboat. The cigar smoking, locust hating tough guy is the epitome of badass. His hardened exterior hides a soft inside who truly cares for people and will do anything to save the people he cares about (including laying down his own life.) Which is precisely what he did for Marcus and Delta in Montevado. Gotta love the tough guys! So glad he was included in your S+ tier. He definitely deserves it.
I think it's just because how each are portrayed in the story as Ben has much more character development but Clayton is still extremely bad ass and my personal favorite looking character of all time.
as a Clayton fanboy i can understand why you placed him a little lower. and im agree with you Clayton need more writing there. that's why i wish TC making the spinoff/DLC about Carmines and Clayton as a main playable character. and if it happen i really hope i getting to see his 2nd brother that not yet revealed.
One of my favorite moments in Gears of War's campaign and the reason why I use A. Carmine in the multiplayer is the scene where Kim asks him, "is that the resonator?" And he just says "naaaah". The way he answer his superior lol that guy has a special place on my Grub Killer soul
It's funny how in the games, Bernie gets C tier, but in the books she'd be at least an S. Her backstory and character in the books makes her such a badass. Shame we only got to see her for 1 act in gears 3 and the start of gears 4 for a few minutes
Always been a Tai fan since his introduction into Gears 2. Love his unique armour design and his personality too a blend mix of a violent outlook at times and a peaceful side as well. I’ve always rocked with Tai as my go to character for multiplayer and horde
@@XXAnthonyCarmineXx hollow storm Tai is my favourite cause of his armour with that shield shoulder plate and aye he’s much older but I’ve read the books and in aspho fields his armour is exactly like hollow storm with the shield shoulder plate and he has these small knives too, I know we’ll see Tai in E-Day somewhere I’m just wondering what armour he’ll be wearing a mix of zeta and hollow storm
Great video as always! May have to argue Baird though. Throughout the books and three, Baird has been slowly breaking his uncaring nature. From the original to three you see him slowly open up more and genuinely care about people. At the end of three he is worried for the whole squad not as just soldiers with him, but as his friends too. From the books even one of the only things he ever worried about was Cole not dying. He finally came to terms that he was in fact his best friend.
Jace was in gears 2 he dropped into the hollow but it was before micheal b jordan voice acted n he had a generic cog gear model then but he could of had standard armor at first
My oldest brother always had dibs on Dizzy. That was his guy. I can't even recall who he played as in the first game because Dizzy was always who I recall him playing as
I love the Carmine family. I love how the younger brothers follow in the footsteps of the eldest brother only for the eldest brother to use their deaths as fuel for his vengeance against the Locust But Jack will forever be S+++ Double Legendary Ascendant God Tier in my opinion
Anthony Carmine and Benjamin Carmine are so iconic. It's genuinely nice to have someone who's of very low rank who doesn't have plot armor. Because it makes you feel like you're in an actual squad. You feel like you don't know what's going to happen next. Cole and Baird are good characters. But they make you feel too safe and comfy; there's no sense of danger. That's what's missing with each consecutive Gears installment. We need to get back to that squad-like feeling where there's a sense anything can happen to your crew.
The rose part of bens death is that you can find a note next to his body that’s as suppose to go to his family and in the note he says “I miss Anthony.” Breaks my heart everytime I see him die.
I replayed Gears 4 and 5 recently, and I actually really like the new cast. Moreso how they are in 5 than 4, and the addition of Fahz. I always liked the original delta but none of them were ever my *favourite* characters. My favourites are like, Anya, Kait, and Benjamin Carmine.
Tai was a good man and great soldier who fit in perfectly with Marcus and delta squad, with his death scene hitting hard with, not only how brutal the locust could be, but also showcasing the horrors of war. When Marcus, Dom, Cole and Baird found Tai, he was already dead though only became reality once Marcus handed him the shotgun. Anya’s words on Tai were very heartfelt over the loss of another soldier in the fight against the locust.
I know I'm gonna sound a bit down bad here, but I just have to say that Alicia and Sam were damn fine, Anya, Sofia and Maria were also quite something.
For Jace, He Was Only There In Gears 2 For One Part As A Voice As The Grindlifts Were Coming Down After Linking Up With Ben And As You Said They Introduce Him In Gears 3
Idk about that point excluding the Gears 4 and 5 characters. Yeah they aren’t Delta squad, but in my eyes are still decent characters. Having replayed 4 and 5 at times they still have that comedic charm just like in the original trilogy. I mean Paduk is the only memorable new character from Judgment, nobody really remembers Sofia, so it’s not like Gears 4 and 5 are the only ones introducing mixed characters

I genuinely don’t think they’re good characters at all so I’d rather wait till gears 6 to see if they’re reworked in any ways since their story isn’t finished, instead of just throwing them in low tiers
Respect the objectivity with the Carmines, I think Anthony is a solid B purely because he fulfills a good role in the story of the carmines and also helps establish how the war with the locust was so brutal that every gear was nothing more than fodder at the end of the day.
Gears has some amazingly written and designed characters. As you pointed out yourself, given enough time to get to know them they are very unique from each other. Although there's more of them out there now, it's only recently that I've got into Tier Lists and Icebergs. Even with the well-crafted characters, I think you were a little too generous with the S+ tier.
At first i hated gears 4-5 but after replaying them i kinda grew to like them, theyre still not as good as the originals but the stories did seem interesting even though theres holes like where did the snatchers come from, how exactly did the new swarm drones come to be id the scions are the original locust etc

I’m hoping so badly Gears of War E-Day opens up with Dom’s brother, Carlos Santiago, during his last stand at Aspho Fields. It would be an unbelievable prologue to open the game with the pendulum wars and a gigantic character sacrifice, they could show the month or so of peace humanity got, and then E-Day
I honestly think that Del was a great character. The voice of reason, the soldier who was In over his head but stuck by his friends. His death hurt me because he had a lot more potential.
All together, there is no better franchise or storyline in a game than GOW 1-3. What a roller coaster ride it was, the depth they gave us for characters. The love that you still feel for them. They'll never be another game like these ones.
I wonder if maybe part of the reason Sophia dying had such an impact on Paduk was because he had to shoot her. Like, think about it. Why would a locust rip off her tags? Why would he be pissed at Baird because of her dying to Locust? It'd make it an extra painful memory because he had to kill a friend to save her from whatever torture the locust had in store for her.

I mean I love almost every character in gears of war. But to put every single character in s+really takes away from other characters. Like for example with most tier lists the estir is supposed to be very small because it is a small percentage whereas B is more on that average. So instead of a s+ section I would have put a b+& b -section in. That way you can break up characters a little bit easier without absolutely hating putting them super low. But that's my opinion your tier list your opinion respect to it
I hear you! Maybe I was a little generous with the S+, but I do think that the characters are one of the best aspects of the whole Gears of War universe. WIthout the strength of those characters, it would've never really been the same
Yeah Gears 4-5 reminds me of the new star wars movies where Del is Finn and Rey is kate. In gear 6 its probably for the best if they made the Hivebusters the new main characters and have the veteran/greenhorn members of Delta squad be secondary guys and gals you say sup to.
I don’t understand why u put Tai in S+ tier, he’s literally just the generic tough guy in the squad who’s that “tough as a ____” guy and “if anyone can survive ____, it’s him” trope, he doesn’t get any character development other than him being a tough guy, aside from the torture barge where he kills himself cuz “oh man even he wasn’t tough enough to deal with the locust torture” type stuff
You put Anthony in B? He doesnt even meet the requirements you set out, putting him right underneath A tier with a giant like Hoffman shows that even though you said to get rid of the sentiment about him being a Carmine that Bias is still heavily influencing your decision Anthony in terms of the parameters you set is a definitive D tier because he is a joke character whose entire point was to die, when Gears of War1 first came out the only bit of info we had on him was he was voted most likely to die by his classmates
I guess you’re right, if it weren’t for him though then Ben and Clayton would’ve never existed! So yeah I tried to be objective but maybe I still had a little bit of sentiment about it

Padduk was such a great character, gears 5 really fleshed his story out and turned him into an amazing character.

The early Gears books were fantastic in my opinion. Karen Travis was one of, if not the best, at doing military game-to-book adaptations

Loved this video, I used to always play as Ben and Dizzy in gears 3 online. They really made some great characters in this series.

You put Anthony in B? He doesnt even meet the requirements you set out, putting him right underneath A tier with a giant like Hoffman shows that even though you said to get rid of the sentiment about him being a Carmine that Bias is still heavily influencing your decision
Anthony in terms of the parameters you set is a definitive D tier because he is a joke character whose entire point was to die, when Gears of War1 first came out the only bit of info we had on him was he was voted most likely to die by his classmates
