      Facts. When I first started I found that I was eating vegan junk food. Whole food works great on the body especially for people who struggle with overindulging. The body will still take care of the rest

    Instead of the dates for sweetness, try adding crushed pineapple (the type packed in pineapple juice, and use the juice as part of the liquid needed from the vegetable broth).

    • @Daimenion
      @Daimenion ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good looking out. Plus it's cheaper than dates.
      Imma try both but I do know dates are a low glycemic Suger

    • @CarolLynnWilliams
      @CarolLynnWilliams ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Daimenion For 1 lb of beans, I would use an entire 15 oz can (including measuring juice as previously mentioned), but less could be used. There's only 1/4 c of dates in Jill's recipe, but that amount of dates taste much sweeter than one quarter cup of pineapple in a pound of beans.

    I did not know dry beans actually have a freshness factor. I have had beans that took frustratingly long to cook but I must have determined that it was something with the growing process. But if you think it is the age of the beans I may need to change my mind on that. Thank you for this wonderful bean recipe. I try to keep any kind of simple-type sugars out of my diet, but this is one of the dishes that I am willing to put molasses in because it is essential to get that wonderful baked bean favor. I just have to remember to brush my teeth afterwards because it still is "simple sugar" which as we know rots our teeth if left on there long enough. Bless you for your recipies that put a premium on our health.

    • @Daimenion
      @Daimenion ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ms Kitty lol....
      Dry beans are worth the process. Soaking overnight take the fart gas out of them. But cooking either stovetop or in a insta pot shortens the time.. also another tip is to let them cook in a Crock-Pot while you're sleep or at work after that all you have to do is add the other ingredients and the bake time could be shorter since the beans might be fully cooked already after the crock pot.
      Also all of the sugars she uses are simple and low glycemic. So they are diabetic friendly. Which is why I love all of her recipes.
      Hope this helps and take care

    This look so good! I totally want to make these! I love that there's red cabbage and mushrooms in here! What is the name of the small red beans that you used? I couldn't find a link to The Rancho Gordo beans below the video. But I did find their website and couldn't figure out which beans they would be. They were also out of stock on a lot of their beans, so I'm hoping the ones you used weren't one of those. Also, was it the 'blackstrap molasses" that you used?? Thanks!❤❤

    • @wholefoodplantbasedcookingshow
      @wholefoodplantbasedcookingshow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They were the Santa Maria pinquito beans. The molasses is unsulfered. If you already have blackstrap molasses, you can use that but maybe a bit less because it is really strong

    • @Daimenion
      @Daimenion ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stove top works great after soaking overnight.
      Or here's a hack try using a Crock-Pot. Let em cook in that either overnight or when you are at work. And then take the other ingredients and add them before you bake. Should be quick since the beans might be already fully cooked after the Crock-Pot

    Would like to try this recipe using the Rancho Gordo beans you suggested, but haven't been able to find the link you stated you would leave. Forgot to add that I tried this recipe today using dry northern beans. The beans turned out ok. The beans were still slightly crunchy even though they soaked for 2 nights in the fridge, cooked for 30 minutes on the stove, and 1.5 hours in the oven with that last half hour with the lid off. Next time we will try using a little liquid smoke. My husband is the one that watched the video and told me he wanted to try it. He's been hungry for baked beans ever since we switched to WFPB over 2 years ago. The flavor isn't too bad and can't believe the recipe uses red cabbage and mushrooms. We are definitely going to try this again.

    • @Di-up6to
      @Di-up6to ปีที่แล้ว

      Since the Mealthy is just another brand of pressure cooker, the time should be the same as for the Instant Pot. Note that Jill used recently dried, small beans, which will generally take less time than larger beans or older dried beans that have been sitting on a shelf for a long time.

    No gluten, dairy, sugar, white anything..
    The cook books you suggested had too much I cannot eat.
    How about a book with the things you can eat written down and they’re substitute the way you substitute for instance molasses for something else. How about the comparison on both sides of the page that way I can concoct my own meals and just substitute like you do what do you think?
