  • After winning a Charles Burchfield scholarship in 1976, Kenny Cole studied drawing at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, earning a B.F.A. in 1981. He exhibited extensively in alternative spaces in and around New York City until moving to Maine in 1994. Here he has continued to exhibit in alternative spaces and was awarded the 2012 Spring Monhegan Artists Residency, exhibited an interactive solo installation at the Zillman Art Museum, University of Maine in January 2014 and in 2017 he was awarded a mid career Esther and Adolph Gottlieb Foundation Grant.
"I began my art career with a desire to take on relevant content that could address and engage power structures. Much of my work has since gained an activist perspective in order to begin identifying and defining emerging moral calculi and has lead me to explore; language, a schematic color palette, interactive canvas structures, and silk-screen printing. My attraction to these forms lies in their ability to interpret, archive, and engage in, the immense degree of digital and technological communication prevalent today, while maintaining the resistance of a hand-rendered traditional liquid medium base."

I caught this on r/documentaries. Thank you SO MUCH for posting there and introducing me to your studio and artists. I appreciate Kenny’s ‘not perfect’ style. It feels accessible to someone like me, a ‘non artist’. I relate to the preposterousness of our political climate and the middle aged men that worship them. (I too am a middle-aged man). Thank you.

Sometimes our videos catch on r/documentaries, sometimes they are removed for not being documentaries. I'm glad you found it!

Personaly I think we need more hand created art. I love graphic computer artist too, but I think In these times we gone so far into technological perfection that we have lost the understanding of perfection, it is the imperfections that make art perfect as it is a mirror human beings . Computer art is great but it missing the human element and elements of taking raw materials and turning into art, and it is in this way computer art can never have the power of hand created art . Don't get me wrong I'm a lover of ALL ART and digital art is needed, but let's not get so caught up that we loose ourselves. Much love ❤️ 🙏

you say ambitions ? I struggled with this for years.. what i have decided is to take the advice of Wayne Dyer .live your life as if you already are ware you wanted to be in life, just be who you are regardless of weather you get approval from the rest of the world.

There are far too few people making art by hand. Worst part is artists are expected to be doing marketing and sales which is totally not art. Either you're an artist or you're a sales person. You can't be both effectively.

I agree. there seems to be a huge disconnect in life ware art/music is concerned. the only time i get to hear music i never herd is to dig and search for it. i have no other way of finding it because all the major media outlets are bought and paid for by the bands/record companies who buy there way into our minds and wallets. so if you are not a marketer/artist/pr expert all at the same time then your work will never see the light of day? such is the story of Van Gogh . so no... all i can be is who I am and i do art work. i am not a marketing expert. and i am still valid. its easy for some one to say just go do that. its mostly the ones who can do none of those things that you hear it from.

I guarantee that if you didn’t live in America and instead lived, let’s say in Israel you would have a very different opinion about war.
