Just picked up a 2019 africa twin adv sports dct at the weekend (been on an nc750x for 2 yrs) cannot believe how comfortable it is...i commute everyday minus ice days and at 6ft 3 it feels worlds apart in leg space & comfort, liberal amounts of acf50 & I'm so happy with my choice, great review & agree with it all!
BTW, It's great to get a review from a tall guy, I'm 6'6" and I was wondring about the new tank... I will have to try one first, when my licence allows me. Cheers!
Lovin the enthusiasm man.. I too have the 2017 AT dct and it is an awesome tourer. Been up and over Stelvio this summer with all my gear. Quite agree with you, wouldn't trade up but would defo buy new if I was in the market right now. Brill review. Keep it up, and I'm not talking about the G button!
If I was 5 foot 2, I'd drag my big toes across the tarmac with the biggest smile I could make. This rig is probably the most under-rated dual cycle out there.
Dont bother. I am 5'11" and tried one last week. Was on full stretch tip toes with the seat on its lowest setting. Felt like it was going to drop every time i came to rest. Nice bike but just too tall. The end.
Absolutely, dont disagree but for me it was just the other side of too tall. Glad you fit ok, nice bikes. I just bought a Crosstourer instead and its lovely, really pleased with it.
Just switched my Tracer 700 for one of these. But with a manual box and a full titanium Arrow system. What a beauty! Fantastic engine and styling. Super comfy. Useful as a daily and for crossing continents. And so much prettier than a GS. And I agree about the USB port. Why, Honda, why?
Great review, thanks. Would liked to of heard it cycle through the gears from a complete stop with out your talking tho, just to hear how the DCT shifts sound. Cheers!
Brillant review. I really enjoy watching your reviews mate. I’m doing my mod 2 Thursday (2nd attempt) and have my CB650F waiting for me. Watching your videos everyday 👊🏻👊🏻
Really starting to get interested in this DCT thing and not having to change years. Have had some big adventure bikes in the past - XLV750,Triumph Tiger Trail, R80GS,R100GS.
Mr fish I think you hit the nail on the head in regards to is it worth upgrading to this. I took the new one out for a jolly and the only reason I see for upgrading to the new one is the tank range. To core of the bike is the same.
thx for this review, have actually been thinking about that bike as dct because of my hand problems with clutch pulling will definately have to get a tes run on one, ride safe
Another great video. Thanks. I am trying to decide between the Standard and the Adventure Sport. I have tested the standard but not the new one.i like the added range and the suspension but the crash protection and the "bark busters" would get replaced straight off.
It is a good looking bike with some nice features. I'm personally not sold on auto gearboxes (yet) but I can see the advantages they offer. Great review Mr Fish! :-)
"Its knocking on the door!" It kicked the door down.:) If I rode my long trips solo, then the original AT would be Super. I have SWMBO along on some of my long distance rides, Glacier National Park, Monterey, and the like, the extra fuel range is huge. My old ZZR1200 and new Ultra Classic have 6.1 & 6 gallon tanks, so an equivalent size and the most I can go has been 209 miles on the Ultra. I might be able to squeeze 20 more miles before it goes dry. the ZZR, with a different sprocket combo than stock is about the same. Two-up and touring luggage, I can't imagine a 1000cc bike going much further and possibly less because it will be working harder. My take on when to consider the ATAS over the AT.
****Note:**** I heard someone who rode the Africa Twin (standard bike) & compared it to his ride on the bigger Africa Twin Adventure Sport (ATAS) and found: - the seating position was not as comfortable on the ATAS. It tired him out faster whereas the AF (standard bike) was fine all day. - the larger Africa Twin Adventure Sport (ATAS) very "bulky" fuel tank got in the way of his legs. Besides those the ATAS was a good bike but he preferred the smaller Africa Twin (standard bike).
If they made this bike with tubeless tyres and cruise control I’d consider it as an alternative to my GSA 1250, especially with the new 1100 engine and the black colour of the standard version. I’d also go for DCT as the GS gearbox is not good enough even with the pro shifter. It will be a while before I change as I’m only 4000 miles in but seriously interested as all the owners of this bike I talk to seem to love them.
If you start a world around tour, (let's say over 100K km, %80 tarmac road, % 20 off road) which one do you prefer and why? Africa Twin or Africa Twin Adventure Sport.
Damn, awesome upgrades by Honda👍🏼, now i want to upgrade my CB500X 2017 for the new 2019; i won’t but i want; i will, no doubt, if Honda create a CB500X Adventure sports new version of it; kind of Rally Raid but made by Honda; it would be fantastic (inverted front forks, spoke wheels, skid plate, engine guards , ajustable with remote rear suspension, hand guards, ABS switch OFF...) & i will buy one; a new CB650X would be also awesome.
Helpful video! Regarding the seat height ... Im not sure if the ATAS is good for me when I only can tip toe it when standing. Because if theres a slight decline and you try to balance it ... then itll fall - especially of this early point of no return with a heavy bike like this. what do you think?
Hi, Great review, do you think the DCT would be any good off round, in the correct setting or would you select the manual option (paddles), thinking of getting one, cant decide on manual or DCT. cheers.
Hi Sir. As I’m just about same build as you are, how about the wind protection on the top of your body on this compared to the normal version one . Thx
And why not manual+optional quickshifter/blipper? It is an option for all 2018+ AT and ATAS. I'll go for test DCT AT soon, but I think personally would prefer manual+QS, because on street riding for me clutch is necessary, and I like this "clutch grey zone" riding, playing with clutch sometimes. And also manual version is lighter for 10kg and cheaper and more reliable.
Thank you for mentioning your height as I find it most helpful when thinking how the bike will fit me. I am about 5foot 10 and I am wondering if the new bike will be a bit tall for me. If you drop the seat to the lower setting how much difference does it make? Thoroughly enjoyed the review and after I got knocked off my Kawasaki Versys 1000 and crushed my left foot the DCT is an excellent option
I'm 5-11 and sat on one. Not too bad/tall. My '15 R1200GSA is about the same. But any shorter than me and it would be too tall I think. Not worth the struggle n stress. Some don't mind hanging off one side if shorter. Cool if it works for you. Great appealing bike but STILL NO CRUISE CONTROL. As the vlogger says in the video, no excuse now that's it's drive by wire. Some of need it. Many of us want it. Honda? Listening?
Thanks mate, great review. Hondas rock. Shame the bloody thing is so tall - idiocy not to offer a lowering kit, and I'm not talking about only a lower seat by 1 or 2 cm. I'd buy this bike in a heartbeat but I simply couldn't touch the ground. I will NOT ride a bike i don't feel confident with and not touching the ground properly when I stop is an absolute showstopper. Really REALLY pissed off about this. I'd love this bike but thanks to the idiot all consuming fad with catering ONLY for taller gibbon/giraffe shaped buyers/riders I am excluded here from rejoining the Honda fraternity. What the hell is Honda thinking by making this so inaccessible to 'normal' sized riders? Why is everything built for 6 feet PLUS riders these days? Idiocy in marketing! Give the poor little 5ft 6" riders access to these wonderful bikes. Please Honda. Come to your marketing senses. Am I alone here guys?

Thanks for review. I am thinking about getting this bike live in USA obsessed with getting it . Have a good day.

Picking mine up in a couple of days, seat and suspension lowered already! Great review Mr Fish, topman.
If I was 5 foot 2, I'd drag my big toes across the tarmac with the biggest smile I could make. This rig is probably the most under-rated dual cycle out there.
I'm in love. But at 5'9" ahhh, what do I know... need to find one and give it a try.
Awesome video dude, thank you for sharing.
Dont bother. I am 5'11" and tried one last week. Was on full stretch tip toes with the seat on its lowest setting. Felt like it was going to drop every time i came to rest. Nice bike but just too tall. The end.

@@jfro5867 Im only 5'8" and with the lower seat its peeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrfect
I'm 5'7"; just need to shift on the seat, but I can handle it.
Top review by a top guy
Prob the best bike review out there on this bike for road use 👍
Love this bike. My only problem is I can never bring myself to get rid of my older bikes. The wife not happy as it is. Im a bike bigamist
Ha ha , i wish i could keep every bike
I still got my BSA's I know how you feel.
I'll get this beauty 'African Queen'..in March next year
Just switched my Tracer 700 for one of these. But with a manual box and a full titanium Arrow system. What a beauty! Fantastic engine and styling. Super comfy. Useful as a daily and for crossing continents. And so much prettier than a GS. And I agree about the USB port. Why, Honda, why?

Great review lovely bike I am getting one very soon
Cool . you will have fun

Nice video buddy, the Remus exhaust does sound amazing! Happy i got it for my one. Got to say it does sound great on the Africa twin though
Its sexual
Think I'd like one of these DCT Africa Twin Adventure Sports when I chop in my V-Strom 😊
Similar riding position
Mr fish I think you hit the nail on the head in regards to is it worth upgrading to this. I took the new one out for a jolly and the only reason I see for upgrading to the new one is the tank range. To core of the bike is the same.
tempting though
Im getting this bike sometime this year
nice one
great vid m8, enjoyed your view .and yes im thinking of buying one .love the dct but riding one my be dif
thx for this review, have actually been thinking about that bike as dct because of my hand problems with clutch pulling will definately have to get a tes run on one, ride safe
Go and test it , its good
Nice one! You sound like Mark Blundell :)
Hippo-Drones agreed but he does have the manual ;)
The Don In London I thought this was the auto? The lever is the handbrake!
Hippo-Drones yeah but this was just the test ride. His actual AT is manual ;)
The Don In London ahh soz, I was only referencing this bike he was reviewing. :-)
The DCT is a game changer for some
Interesting review. Looking for replacement of my Tiger 1050 (brilliant all round bike). Will have to pop into Dobles to book test ride.
"Its knocking on the door!"
It kicked the door down.:)

It is a good review cant wait when can have this bike and upgrade from my kawasaki z800 to this touring bike
I'll take one.. With a side order of clutch
****Note:**** I heard someone who rode the Africa Twin (standard bike) & compared it to his ride on the bigger Africa Twin Adventure Sport (ATAS) and found:

Great review, you have helped me to choose my next bike, this is it.......test ride first😉
Thanks , you will like it . Enjoy the test ride

Thats a difficult one to answer but probably the sport just because of better tank range
Actually, the Adventure Sports Model is designated as CRF1000L2. The CRF1000L is the standard Africa Twin model.
Not in the uk it’s not , still crf1000l
There are third party cruise controls you can put into theese bikes (or pretty much any) :)
No cruise control? Can it be added?

The new one (2020) has addressed everything but the price has gone sky high, thoughts?
cruise control?
Have you tested a 2018 Triumph Tiger?
Wonder why they don’t just Rekluse these ADV bikes ?
Hi, Great review, do you think the DCT would be any good off round, in the correct setting or would you select the manual option (paddles), thinking of getting one, cant decide on manual or DCT. cheers.
Dct all the way you can't stall it
Nice bike a little big for me but still nice 👌🏻
easy to ride
How does the suspension do with your weight? I'm always concerned about that because the dealers never have them setup and I'm 19 st
The suspension was fine for me , don't know what settings the bike was on though , i have mine on quite stiff front and rear for the road
Hi Sir. As I’m just about same build as you are, how about the wind protection on the top of your body on this compared to the normal version one .
Thx
And also is the heated grips on this better then on the previous one ?
Buenos dias, señor Pescatore, you could get 100% fit with this bike by dropping a few times a day and then picking it up. 😜
Great Review, and I'm just as tall, and ergonomically I believe this is the bike for me. My only dilemma is Manual or DCT? What's your opinion? Thanks
Alfred Pullicino personally I would be the dct
And why not manual+optional quickshifter/blipper? It is an option for all 2018+ AT and ATAS. If it werent for the pricetag of almost 29.000 GBP including all the taxes here in Denmark i would really like one of those things
Av got a 2005 gs1200 keep toying with selling it and going for a Africa like this the gs kills my legs
I think it would look a lot better with a beak on the front but that's just my opinion this could be a serious contender for my next bike...………..👍
You can get them for the standard crf so should be able to get them
No cruise control. Switch gear not illuminated. Too big for anyone shorter than 6 foot 2 inches.
I'm 5-11 and sat on one. Not too bad/tall. My '15 R1200GSA is about the same. But any shorter than me and it would be too tall I think. Not worth the struggle n stress. If only I didn’t have only 28inch inside legs 😣😣
....and after you attend the computer course.... you can read the dash / and set all the controls.....lol
Actually quite simple once you have a play
LuL

Get in the dirt MAN!
I think it is too tall! I am 5’7”
Interesting review. Looking for replacement of my Tiger 1050 (brilliant all round bike). Will have to pop into Dobles to book test ride.
Say hello from me ..
Have a 2011 tiger 1050 ,thinking of an African twin ,until i get a test ride i don't know if i will miss the difference in HP.
