I worked on the trail crew in 2009 that built that section of trail with the walk through tree tunnel. I literally was one of the few who carved it out. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life.
I got super giddy seeing how excited you were about it. It made my day and made me think about a bunch of old friends and fun memories.

Love visiting the park, but it is completely impossible to capture its majesty. One of those places you simply must experience to truly appreciate. Great video and tips.

Love, love, love this area!! Spent way too much time there when I was driving back to Washington State about three or four years ago but it was worth every second!! Thanks for the memories.....

I agree I like the second part just as much as the first I love all the ferns! That walk through tree is really cool

The ferns below the Redwoods - so pretty! What a great trail - LOVE that they limit the number of hikers each day.

Great video, Hyperion the tallest coastal Redwood is close to the loop trail but not inside the zone. Have to venture off the path to find it.

I've been to the Redwoods a couple of times, but I've not been on this trail.
Not seeing other people on the trail is very appealing to me.
Thanks for sharing this area of the park. Good job! ~Lucy

Oh wow, you have to get a gate code and permit for entry. Didn't know that. ;p I prefer to do my uphill hiking first when possible, but the trail looks beautiful!!! Haha, obsessed with the walk through tree. I can see why :) Oooh, yeah I love moss. Amy is right....the tree isn't walking ;D

New here. Beautiful place. When I was very young we use to come to Ca. on Route 66. Once we went to Morro Rock and back then in the 50's people where allowed on it and could go all the way to the top. The clouds are low and you seem so high up. It was so thrilling, also wet and slippery. I do not know the reason they closed it. Maybe to dangerous for the people or the rock itself.

    • @eliserieke9308
      @eliserieke9308 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't know much about Morre Rock but Strawberry Rock is on private land owned by the Yurok tribe. It used to have public access too, but no more

I'm guessing you've been to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park? I can't believe I was so close and didn't get to the place in this video. My time at Prairie Creek was pretty packed with adventures though.

Redwood creek next to the groove. Is the only area in redwood NP that disperse camping allowed. You may backpack in, and camp overnight along the creek. This would explain why cars were at the trail head ahead of you, and you did not see folks on the trail. Those cars were visitors with backcountry camping permits at a dispersed site up, or down creek.

Three questions: do all of the trails require a key?
Also, do you have to pay for each one?
Is this worth visiting over Lady Bird Johnson?

You guys really need to come back here to this trail and find Hyperion, the tallest tree in the world.

    • @speedracerjeff

Yes Hyperion is just off the loop trail, have to go off the beaten path to find it.

Does the access rode get very narrow? Just asking cause I got my permit but I noticed the first sign says no longer than 21ft and then my permit says no longer than 24ft so I am curious as to how bad the rode gets and are there very sharp turns?

I believe the biggest tree in the world title belongs to the General Sherman, closer to King's Canyon national park. Biggest, oldest, tallest, heaviest.
Also if you haven't been to Calaveras Big Trees park in norcal, make sure to go there. Sequoias are great, but I will always have a soft spot for the redwoods and ferns. Grew up with a Redwood outside my bedroom window and ferns in the back yard. I wish they grew in other states

Tallest Tree in the world is Hyperion, a coastal Redwood in the Redwood National Forest in CA. It’s close to the loop trail featured in this video but you have to wander off the path to get to it.
