Yes they use a lot of growling in their songs. I gave some recommendations in a previous video, but here you have them again : "kingdom of heaven part 3", "consign to oblivion live at the Zenith", "The essence of silence", "Design your Universe". As a long time EPICA fan, I do feel that she is indeed holding in a bit in Arcana and The ghost in me. I prefer it when they go all out, but it is understandable that not every song should summon the four horsmen of the Apocalypse :)
This song is an absolute banger!! Love it so much. Arcana was played during The Symphonic Synergy shows in September, just like The Ghost In Me. I instantly fell in love with Arcana when I first heard it live two months ago! And yes, the growling in Epica songs is a common thing. The contrast between Simone's angelic voice and Mark's growls is what makes their songs awesome. Some Epica songs I definitely recommend: - In All Conscience (Omega Alive) - Kingdom of Heaven 1 (Omega Alive) - Kingdom of Heaven 2; no good live recording, so I recommend the lyric video - Kingdom of Heaven 3 (Omega Alive) - Abyss of Time (Omega Alive) - The Holographic Principle (lyric video) - Once Upon a Nightmare (Omega alive) - The Great Tribulation (feat. Fleshgod Apocalypse) - Sirens (feat. Charlotte Wessels & Myrkur) - The Essence of Silence (Official live video) - Unchain Utopia (Omega Alive) - Victims of Contingency (Omega Alive) - Code of Life (live at the AFAS Live) - Unleashed (live at the AFAS Live) - Design your Universe (Retrospect live) - Consign to Oblivion (live at The Zenith) - Dancing in a Hurricane (Official live) - Fools of Damnation (also no good live recording)
Hey man! I believe you are ready for the following: • Consign to Oblivuon (live at the Zenith) • Unleashed (Retrospect live) • Once Upon a Nightmare (Omega Alive) • Code of Life (live at AFAS) • Beyond the Matrix (live at the Zenith) And one of their masterpieces: • Kingdom of Heaven part 3 (Omega Alive) Oh man, you don’t even imagine what you are going to discovert. There is so much more, but that’s just the beggining. Cheers!
For heavy EPICA then ‘Consign to Oblivion’ live from the Zenith in Paris or for more like this then ‘Skeleton key’ from their Omega Alive stream during covid or ‘Unleashed’ Live from their retrospect concert. For peak Live Simone then it has to be ‘Once upon a nightmare’ (Omega Alive) or ‘Rivers’ ft Apocalyptica live from the AFAS.
Thank you for reacting to my favorite band. You’re still a virgin when it comes to Epica. They have been around for about 22 years so there’s a lot of catching up to do. I see people have made plenty of suggestions to keep you busy for a while. Enjoy the journey. 🤘
Saw them live in Amsterdam in September when they played Arcana - they’re an awesome band live and this song was very cool live. Thanks again for your reaction
Hey my friend, i really enjoy your reactions!! You have to react to consign to oblivion (live at Zenith) next, to get how hard Epica can go.. If you want absolute epic song, Kingdom of heaven part 3(Omega alive).. also Once upon a nightmare from (Omega alive) is a favorite of mine, really a great song.. so thats 3 live songs i think you should react to.. I do think this new song is Epica, but at same time i dont feel its gonna be a favorite of mine honestly, its good, but Epica got masterpieces.. i would proberly place this song in the lower half of the Epica catalogue, that can of cause change, as this song is new to me also.. With all that said, Epica is one of my absolute favorite bands, and i know their entire catalogue very well.. In my opinion Epica do not have a bad song, anywhere on any album, some is just good, some is amazing, and some are masterpieces, but no bad songs..
and by the way about the choir. You can consider it the third vocalist of Epica 😁 it is an integral part of them, they use it a lot, because it is the choir and orchestrations that give them this characteristic epic signature sound 😉
Epica have a whole universe of musics. There's music about depression, axiety, insomnia, quantum physics, wars, religions, love, hate, technology... they are a incredible band. If you want something havier and explore the maximum, I recommend Consign To Oblivion as the next song.
They definitely go a LOT harder, but I think that variety, and not doing too much of one thing, is part of what makes their discography so impactful. This song definitely sounds to me like an album opener-the way it gets heavier and darker at the end almost feels like it’s leading into the next track and giving a real taste of what will follow. I’m absolutely obsessed with the poetry and message of it though. They did debut this one also at the Symphonic Synergy show (and it was A M A Z I N G) so I’m very hopeful that an official live version will be released just like The Ghost in Me! Simone’s vocals are sheer excellence as always, and this was your first introduction to Mark Jansen’s harsh vocals! That is indeed something they do regularly on Epica songs-a contrast popularly known as “beauty and the beast” vocals. And no one has mastered that interplay as well as them. One perfect example of it is their song Abyss of Time-highly recommend checking out the music video for that one, because there’s a lot of symbolism! And then overall for heavier tracks, I’d recommend The Essence of Silence (Official Live Video), The Obsessive Devotion (my favorite version is from PolandRock), and Victims of Contingency (Omega Alive). Finally, Simone can absolutely go further with her power, so I get what you mean about feeling like she’s holding back! I also feel like it’s one of the reasons everyone so strongly prefers live performances over the studio tracks, because it always feels like some of the depth gets lost during production-not just for Epica, but for a lot of singers I love. But on stage, you see and hear everything. One of my favorite vocal performances from her is Code of Life (Live at AFAS Live).
the growling is very common in epica (yay!) and the choirs are just as common, with a children's choir getting a lot of use since the previous album. i would like to suggest this song; Epica - Facade of reality (the embrace that smothers part V), live at paradiso 2006 th-cam.com/video/_j8XnlixSeo/w-d-xo.html for a combination of old epica, heavy, deep (meaning) and great growling. where pop music is about a favorite food or how much someome dislikes someone else, with Epica it's usually psychology, philosophy, sciene, spirituality and so on.... For example, the embrace that smothers is a set of 9 songs (+opening, pre-songs and ending) discussing various sides of religious dangers. parts 1, 2 and 3 can be found on the "after forrever" album "prison of desire", mark's band before founding epica.
You can actually find the live version of this song from the livestream. I recommend it. It's called SYMPHONIC SYNERGY. And they use a lot of growling!!! We want more, keep it coming.
well man, this is a pretty simple song by Epica, but of course very well done, they always have a few hit simple tracks on their albums, for videos, to attract an audience, but they also have much more complex and difficult works for those listeners who like it more difficult 😁 Of course, they went much further than this song 😁 get ready to explode 😁 start with: Epica - consign to oblivion (live at the zenith) 😈
The heavy side of Epica (and a very entertaining video of a live performance) is the song ‘CONSIGN TO OBLIVION’ live at the Zenith, Paris. No doubt in my mind that you’re going to love that one, so please do us all and yourself a big favour and react to *Epica, Consign To Oblivion, Live at the Zenith, Paris.* You won’t be disappointed, I promise! 🤪👍
So happy with the video of this song. Would not surprise me if the Symfonic Synergy live version is dropping soon. Really hoping for it. Next Epica - Consign to Oblivion (Live at the Zenith). You wanted heavier Epica 😁🤘
Epica is for sure a better band live, including this song. Mark (rythm guitars and growls) basically confirmed a European tour in 2025, when he talked with fans after the Symphonic Synergy shows in Amsterdam 2 months ago. You're getting a lot of great recommendations in the comments, but if you want to hear Simone not hold back I would personally recommend "In All Conscience - Omega Alive" the full Omega Alive (covid lockdown) concert is on youtube in 4k, but here's a timestamped link th-cam.com/video/mrppEWGl_ss/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oKypgJHHI8EY5BIL&t=1494
I say watch more of their stuff, this one is still more radio friendly than their baseline. Others will have the recommendations for sure! Get something heavier yes but also don't miss out on their ballads. 😄
Yes they use a lot of growling in their songs. I gave some recommendations in a previous video, but here you have them again : "kingdom of heaven part 3", "consign to oblivion live at the Zenith", "The essence of silence", "Design your Universe".

Great list.
Thank you for supporting our Mighty Epica, my dear friend 🔥🤘🏻
@@fritsyt2090 Of course!! Always!! ❤
Yes, the growls are part Epica 😁 you're in for a ride! Best band ever.
Hey man! I believe you are ready for the following:

I was at symphonic synergy in September and this songs ending was much heavier with the presence of the full orchestra in person

Something else that you might appreciate that’s very heavy from them is “Victims of Contingency”. A personal favorite.
Las transiciones de Epica son lo mejor!!! ❤❤❤❤
Hey my friend, i really enjoy your reactions!!

Great reaction to the unmatched symphonic metal band Epica and the goddess Simone ! You’ve earned a new subscriber
Love your reaction when she hits the word "light" in the chorus, because it does the exact same thing to me 😂
"Wasn't heavy enough"... Try Kingdom of Heaven, Parts 1 and 3 from the Omega Alive virtual tour.
HELL YES!!!!
Epica have a whole universe of musics. There's music about depression, axiety, insomnia, quantum physics, wars, religions, love, hate, technology... they are a incredible band. If you want something havier and explore the maximum, I recommend Consign To Oblivion as the next song.

Consign is even not their heaviest song, but for sure one of the heaviest and Epica at its finest 👌🏻

Epica have heavy songs but also beautifull ballads and other song between
