I forgot how troubling this can be now that I've been on T for almost 7 years. When I was 15, I started growing my leg hair and it was very dark and full. I remember my dad used to tell me it was gross and I should shave and all that. So basically I tried to avoid him or wear sweatpants around the house and then in public I only wore pants. No shorts until I cut my hair and starting presenting myself as male, but it was about 6 months or so before I got on hormones. It was hard though. I was worried what people would think. It's so dumb that body hair has such power over us! What a weird societal rule lol

W.S. W crossfit was the first place i wore a tank and shorts. Sported my body hair in all its glory. Everyone was busy worrying about their amraps and not vomiting than my sweaty hairy bod.

Same with the leg hair being easier to show! For me, I’ve always worked with kids so my biggest fear was having a kid point it out or ask about it. I expected kids to do this out of curiousity, but from all the times I’ve worn shorts, I’ve never once had a kid ask about my leg hair. I always have had a plan to say “I just grow hair there” as a simple answer if it was pointed out, but it never was. Armpits are a different story for me, I think because it’s deemed as “gross”. But showing my armpits will be my new goal this summer. Thanks for the video, Harrison.

Hanna S I've had a kid ask about my hair on my legs. It ended in them asking why their mom shaves her legs. It was an uncomfortable conversation... For that mom.

As a young person questioning trans, it's hard to have body hair because people at school would talk about me, cause I'm not sure about being trans but I definitely don't want to shave, so everyone would view me as a disgustingly hairy female. Even with scout summer camp coming up, (if it doesn't get canceled due to corona) I'm very excited because I plan to wear swim trunks and a swim shirt (I feel very masculine in those clothes) but girls at the summer camp would probably be all clean shaven. *Sigh* I just need more confidence.

Cool vid. Loved it and so related. It's bizarrely "empowering" but also "vulnerable making". I'm not passing yet and am not brave enough to do the "letting it all hang out" thing yet. We'll get to sleeveless everyday!

Loved this video! I too have struggled with the body hair issue. I started T about a year a and half ago and my legs are very hairy. I wore pants all last summer to avoid the hair issue, but decided that this summer I was going to wear shorts. I still don't pass about 50% of the time and so some people may still perceive me as a female with very hairy legs. This summer I decided I don't care what people think. They'll just have to deal with it.

Thanks for the video!! Yeah, I stopped shaving a few years into college. Honestly for me, shaving was just so uncomfortable, partly because I have a LOT of dark leg hair for someone assigned female at birth. It took a while to kinda power through being seen by people, but now it's not a big deal, it just feels normal

I still appear feminine. Kids are awesome. I'm hairy. It makes conversation. Kid: how come you have hairy legs? Youre a girl! Me: because i dont shave. Kid: mom, why dont you have hairy legs? Mom: i shave. Kid: why?
YES. Why? I stopped shaving my legs after an awful skin reaction I started having. Shaving wasted SO MUCH VALUABLE TIME. Some things are essential, others are not. I sometimes feel self conscious about my hair too but then I realized having conversations is far more important and the discomfort is building my confidence and making me grounded.
Working out at Crossfit is the only time so many people have seen my hairy glory.. And no one gave a poop.
Imo, if you want to be extraordinary, cut the fat.

I wasn't out to my family but I had been growing out my body hair for awhile. I was hanging out with my young cousins in the summer, wearing a swimsuit, and my little cousin asks "Are you secretly a boy?" and I could not fathom an answer so I just uncomfortably said "...No...?" and then they said "But you have armpit hair." And i was just like "Okay where do I even begin??"

I have dark body hair so it's very noticiable even though I'm Pre-T. I just shave my legs because I want to, but I'm letting my forearms' body hair grown because I have "viking styled" long hair and I think my forearms will help me look more manly.
So yeah, I struggle with society standards in regards of men having long hair.
But, body hair? I'm fairly certain that after being a month on T I'll turn into a bear lmao

Do you sweat more since you've grown out your armpit hair? Just wondering because I DO know a lot of guys who shave/trim their armpit hair because they sweat and smell more when it's grown out. Actually pretty common here where I live for men to trim armpit hair due to the humidity. If someone asked you if you were going to trim your armpit hair soon here it's because it's summer with 99% humidity.

immamermaid I was always pretty sweaty pre hair even... so I'm not sure if the hair made a difference!

It might be less common for guys to to trim/shave where you’re from but if you came to my gym you’d probably be the dude with the most armpit hair. And no one would care. :)
