One of my brother's favorite presents was a new, boxed set of Bantam Star Trek Fotonovels I bought for him in the '70s. I know he still has them; there were 3 or 4 in the slipcase. I believe he went on to collect the remainder of the series. The books were a good way to capture episodes visually, as we would not buy our first videotape recorder (VCR) for several years.

Fantastic, it would be great to see that box set today. The fotonovels are great!

The reason that blue spine version of The Romans went for so much is because it's not an official release. It was a fanmade reprint with a cover in the style of the blue spine reprints. Fanmade prints of books always fetch quite a bit of money.

I spotted that after making this video. They did a good job. Yes, I've seen a few fan made books. They do fetch good money!👍

Great to see those V novels..the best were wrote by ACCrispin, Howard Weinstein and George Proctor. The covers of the New English Library editions for Europe had great covers.

Another superb video from one of youtube's finest channels.
In the above video you said that you thought there were other Quantum Leap novels and you are right because in 1990 Corgi books here in UK published 2 novels entitled "Quantum Leap The Beginning" and "Quantum Leap The Ghost And The Gumshoe" by Julie Robitaille both of which were novelisations of tv episodes, these were then republished by Boxtree books with different covers in 1994. Between 1993 and 1995 Boxtree Books published 10 of the original novels that were published in the US by Ace Books. One of the Ace Books novels was published in the US with the title "Quantum Leap The Novel" but was published by boxtree books here in the UK with the title "Quantum Leap Carny Knowledge" A further 8 original novels were published in the US by Berkley Boulevard Books between 1996 and 2000, these were never published in the UK.
In regards to the V novels you said in the above video that you thought there may have been 14 novels published, In fact between 1984 and 1988 16 V novels were published in the US the first 11 by PInnacle Books and the last 5 by Tor Books. The first 9 novels published by Pinnacle Books were also published in the UK by New English Library Books between 1984 and 1987. In 2008 a new novel called V The Second Generation by Kenneth Johnson was published by Tor Books, this novel is set approx 25 years after the events of the original 1982 tv mini series and completely ignores the events of the 2nd mini series V The Final Battle and the 1 hour tv series that followed. In 2009 the original mini series novel was republished without the V The Final Battle half of the original novel but with a new ending written by Kenneth Johnson leading into the novel V The Second Generation.
Concerning the Knight Rider novels you looked at in your video the listing depicted 4 novels in fact there were 5 Knight Rider novels published by Star Books / Target Books 4 in 1984 and 1 in 1985, the novel that was missing from the listing that you showed was "Knight Rider 4 The 24 Carat Assassin, It has a yellow cover with a photo montage of David Hasselhoff standing in front of KItt the Car, The back cover states that it is based on an episode call "All That Glitters", in fact it is a novelisation of the season 2 two part story "Mouth Of The Snake" there never was an episode called "All That Glitters" though I do wonder if "All That Glitters" may have been a working title for the two part story "Mouth Of The Snake".
A great selection of A Team books in the listing that you showed in your video but not containing any of the actual A Team Novels. For the record 10 novels were published in the UK by Target Books between 1983 and 1985 of which 9 were novelisations of tv episodes plus 1 original novel "The A Team 6 Operation Desert Sun: The Untold Story", The first 6 novels were published in the US by Dell Books in 1984, as far as I am aware the last 4 novels were never published in the US.
Great to see the Minder books, The grey one with the name "Minder" in red was in fact the first of 3 Minder novels that Sphere Books published in 1984/1985 the other two were novels called "Minder-Back Again" and "Minder-Yet Again". these three "Minder novels were then republished by Sphere Books in 1989 in a single omnibus volume called "Leave It Out, Arthur!"
Looking forward to seeing your next you tube video looking at tv tie-in novels along with all your other fantastic book videos.

I do remember vthe Boxtree Quantum Leap books as I sold them in my store at the time! I have of course already filmed a video on the V novels but didn't know about the later one. Might need to find a copy!

@@JulesBurt Your very welcome, I'm pleased you found the information useful, I have copies of all the boxtree Quantum Leap novels along with copies of the 8 novels published by Berkley Boulevard Books that were not published here in the UK plus the 2 novels published by Corgi Books, I watched your video about the V novels sometime ago and really enjoyed it, I have a complete set of all the New English Library V novels and a complete set of all 16 of the US versions of the novels plus the 2 novels published by Tor Books in 2008 /2009.

Excellent stuff Jules. I just thought of something and could search it but I know you will have the answer. Have there been a series of books based on the TV show " Lovejoy " , the excellent show about the antiques dealer and his friends. My Mom and I used to watch and really enjoyed it. Good memories. 😊

Pardon my ignorance, but are those early STAR TREK novels just not worth very much? I was surprised to see 8 books and the slip box only selling for $23?! Wish I could find a Signet Bond box set for that price! Also, I think that Sturgeon penned VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA was based on the theatrical film and not the TV series? 🧐

    • @JulesBurt

The classic Star Trek books don't seem to be selling for much, no idea why as they're great. Interesying about the Voyage book, I hadn't though of that.🙂👍

I liked the look of the Man from Uncle books although once ypu factor in the postage costs not sure it was a fantastic deal. I have the UK versions minus the hard to get no 13 and 16. I really like the look of the US versions and managed to pick up a run of 1-17 for around £64 including postage. They look in reasonable condition but we'll see when they arrive. Although I have owned the UK versions for several years and picked them up on average for around £2 percopy I have only recently begun to read them. Although an undemanding read I find them to be surprisingly good and although a little darker in tone they evoke the series well. I find the fact thst they are original stories a big bonus. Thanks for the excellent tv tie-in content Jules. Are you planning a video on the US and Girl from Uncle books in the future? Cheers Ian

Thanks Ian. I too have only got USA editions that I found for a pound or two but I started collecting them thirty years ago, been meaning to finish my set. Take a look at my collection here....th-cam.com/video/TwffUXP7yZQ/w-d-xo.html

Hi Jules, thanks for the link. I had previously watched it. Excellent video. You have a lovely complete UK collection. As I said mine is missing two hard to find ones. I just have one annual. It's this video that reignited my dormant Uncle passion. I am now reading the novels and watching the show. I have the attache case dvd set from a few years ago. Beautiful thing. I was lucky enough to meet Robert Vaughn at the memorabilia event that you referred to when he signed my copy of his autobiography and I had a paid for photo opportunity. Who would have thought I would ever meet Napoleon Solo! My earliest memory of Uncle was when my parents took me to see "To Trapa Spy" at the cinema. I was blown away. I think this was probably before the series aired on UK tv plus it was in colour! So my aim is now to pick up as many US editions as possible in particular the novels not published in the UK. I am currently two of those short "The Hollow Crown Affair " and the "The Corfu Affair ". It seems the latter is as rare as the UK edition particularly at a reasonable price. There is a suggestion that the later numbers were produced in fewer numbers due to declining sales. I have managed to pick up the Girl from Uncle in both UK and US editions with the exception of the last UK annual. Much easier it seems. Cheers Ian

Thanks Ian, glad you found that video helpful. That show with Robert Vaughn was incredible. He had been touring the UK before and I supplied merchandise and memorabilia for this, including appearances on Channel 4 on The Big Breakfast. Good luck continuing the hunt 👍
