    I wanted to thank you for sharing this terrific tutorial on bird care. I watched this a year ago and ordered the dummy eggs.. A couple of my females were turning into chronic egg layers. At that time, the only avian vet in this town had moved and like you, I needed answers quickly. The dummy eggs stopped it. They are a wonderful way to keep the birds happy and healthy and without also adding more into the flock of feathered kids here. Thanks again, Blessings

    just make sure your giving her calcium after she lays an egg , still get a fake egg or eggs . remeber they store they calcium for eggs once layed they lose it. so replenish with calcium make sure theres a calcium block , get some powder to sprinkle of food or get a liquid form for water.

    How to catch that situation on time, not when it is too late?
    Thank you,

      Hi, I found her in the morning dead. The egg was still in her but very close to the exit...I guess she just couldn’t push it out..She did not show any sick behavior the day before. She was active and playful. How to catch that situation on time? It is a good question. If you see your bird is in labor (she will stay in one place and may make little sound while trying to push an egg out) just keep an eye on her. I am not a breeder but I would say If she tried for a few hours with no success-take her to a vet.

      I saw on the utube where the man was bushing n massaging the bird stomach gently while helping to relieve the egg from binding in the bird. The bird must be in ur hand on its back so you can see the process very carefully. Its like being constipated and you need help! Omg.

    The place she mentioned for the eggs is a total ripoff, 7 plastic eggs for $25 +shipping! Just Google it for a more reasonable price. I went with Bird Supply of NH who sold me two packs of 5 eggs for $5.49 per pack of 5 eggs. The shipping was $4.81 so I ended up with 3 more eggs & saved %50.

      @@petbirdsquad Yeah, it's strange how it's so hard to find them even now. I called 8 different pet stores locally that sold birds or were bird only businesses and not one had them. I am extremely greatful for your video, your advice helped me and Chicken Wing thru a very strange time! She was a rescue bird and the previous owner thought she was a male so I was pretty shocked when my male bird started laying eggs :) Her tail feather markings are coming in now so it's pretty obvious that she is female. I've turned my double car garage into an improvised Avery and she loves her freedom both in the garage and the house. Permanently trapping birds in a small cage is the same as a human in a jail cell, in my opinion.

    Are you saying if you lay fake eggs it will discourage her from laying any more eggs? My Cockatiel laid two n I discarded them to my regret and Im afraid she will lay more. This is my first encounter w a Cockatiel I adore them n their smart, funny, n imposed character. She was given to me by someone moving to another country I love her so much. I already have Love birds they all play well together. I dont know if she realizes her two eggs are gone? But I think she may be expecting more because she didnt leave her nesting location which she seeked out on top of my kitchen cabinet its unique n cozy! I tried to move her but she was not having it so be it lol. Although I have to get a ladder to ckeck on her. I didnt know she could lay eggs without having a mate? Im so glad I stumbled onto ur channel you were very informative.

    • @petbirdsquad
      @petbirdsquad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, female birds can lay eggs without males. First of all I would put something on her nesting location to prevent her from sitting there. When she loses a nesting place she might stop laying eggs all together. But she might search for another place! In this case I recommend using fake eggs. You can give her all seven and she will stop laying eggs and will sit on fake ones until she gets bored.

    My 30 year old Senegal parrot just started laying eggs and it's really worrying me. I never even knew it was possible without a mate. She's laid 3 in the past 2 weeks. She is not at all concerned with the eggs. She just lets them fall to the bottom of the cage. She does not try to sit on them or nest with them. Do you think dummy eggs would work on a bird who doesn't seem concerned with the eggs she is laying?

    Thank you so much! My male cockatiel is v v territorial around a basket they have both been sitting in and chewing. How do I stop him from swooping on us and attacking? Do I get rid of the “nest”? They are both only 1 year old and I don’t want to breed them - their health and also since I work full time, live in a small flat & cant afford to breed them.

    • @petbirdsquad
      @petbirdsquad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, males are usually getting territorial around their nests. They are too small for making babies, they should be at least 1.5 y.o. Is the basket inside their cage? I would get rid of it. It might help but they might find another nest place to lay eggs. Sometimes they can do it on the bottom of the cage. If you find an egg-get the fake ones and give all of them to your birds (better to get 7eggs.) She will stop making eggs and your birds will sit on fake one till they get bored.

    • @petbirdsquad

      Remove the egg and if she makes one more egg-remove it as well immediately. If she chose a corner of the bottom of the cage for nesting, try to make some changes to the environment. For instance, put a seed bowl or a toy there. Birds hate changes and it can distract her from laying eggs.If she continued laying eggs then you should buy dummy aggs and give her all set.

    My pet bird is almost 7 y.o and recently she has been showing a lot of sexual maturity, she does the standard tiel mating call often and I'm getting worried. I don't know what to do, do you think giving her fake eggs will make her distracted or will it make her feel encouraged? I've been currently trying to trick her into thinking it's winter by covering her cage and turning off the lights, but it doesn't work that well because when I turn the lights back on she goes back to mating calls.

    I got both white budgies from a family who had many birds together, I believed they were mother and daughter, both have tan on their nose area, I have a male with blue area across the room. My questions is will two females ( mom much older) act out breeding because she is old enough to breed ( only just started to have problem in last few months? None of the eggs hatch, I even candle them. But she continues to lay eggs, I have only saw them once look like they are mating. Is it possible mom isn't a female or is it just acting out because she is fussing because that's when I see it. I don't know if it's just having a male across the room that kinda encourages to want to breed. She is ALWAYS laying eggs, I have left them in and I have taken them out, no change, I'm afraid she will get egg binding, I would appreciate any help. They are not tame by the way. So I have five parakeets and two are male and the other three are female, I really did not want them to mate but ever since last Friday I saw my male and female parakeet having intercourse and I tried to discourage it but now she’s laying eggs and I’m pretty sure their fertilized. After her babies hatch, I don’t know what I’m gonna do, because I don’t want them to keep mating. My bird is about seven months old which is too young to keep having babies. Do you think after her eggs hatch, I should put fake eggs so they stop trying to reproduce? Or should I separate them?

    • @petbirdsquad
      @petbirdsquad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      She is too young to have an adult life. They mature when they reach 1-1,5 year old. Her body did not develop yet for all of that.. I would separate the girl until she is at least 1year old (after they raise the babies). Just keep the cages close to each other so they will see and communicate with one another.

    My caique has been laying eggs every few months (she’s alone), she just laid one today. It looks like there was a small piece of the egg missing? She seems ok just quiet, and didn’t really want to leave her cage like she usually does. I hope she’s fine. We add calcium to her food every day. And I usually give her carrot juice daily. I’ve read that leaving the eggs on the bottom wil make them forget about it, is this true?

    • @petbirdsquad
      @petbirdsquad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I were you I would get rid of the egg. Otherwise she might start sitting on it and make more eggs. About the missing piece-maybe the egg fell down and broke? Or maybe she eat the piece. They do it sometimes if they think that the egg is not good or if they are missing calcium. You you see her stop eating and sleeping too much-take her to a vet. Probably she is quiet and not very social because her hormones are increased. She will get back to normal soon. Just if you see her finding a nesting place (can be in a seed bowl or on the shelf or under the sofa, etc) If she spends too much time sitting in one place, you should restrict her access to the area-change the food bowl to a smaller one or put something in a place where she is nesting. It will discourage her from making eggs.

    How did my budgie have a egg by herself with no other bird around

      Birds have a cycle like humans do. They can lay eggs by themselves, they just won’t be fertilized and hatch unless there’s another bird

    I have a single African love bird I hand raised her.. and now she is laying eggs without a male or without mating.. is there any problem in it? Should I leave the egg with her or should I take it out? Please help me

      I think I explained everything in the video. If your bird lays one single egg ones or twice an year, I would not worry about it. It is normal. If she lays eggs constantly, it is bad for her health. I would take away her eggs and give her dummy eggs to sit on.

      @@petbirdsquad thank you very much for replying.. right now I took that egg out and she seems to be sad.. I tired to pair her with a male but it didn't work well.. so I want to keep her alone.. I even she is happy staying alone with family

      Yes, birds like people, sometimes they can fall in love with each other, sometimes birds can really hate each other. It is not easy to pair up birds. Some birds think that they are humans and want to be only around humans.

    I’d like to ask you for your advice. I have a tiel that lays eggs all the time and sometimes she’ll lay one and I will remove and she’ll stop for awhile (more than two days) then makes another. She has no way to make a nest. during the day she isn’t around any nesting material and she is out of the cage. I put her in her sleeping cage total darkness with a blanket on top bc The light seeps through. She is in total darkness for a long time.
    I can’t seem to get her to stop laying at all. I have people telling me to take the eggs out, then have people telling to leave them in. I used to be able to discourage her from laying now I can’t. Her eggs are looking like she doesn’t get enough calcium but I give them to her. There isn’t a avian vet nearby to look at her if something happens.

      It's probably a female bird... I think sometimes they do that when there's not partner but the eggs won't hatch
