    2nd session of practice before worship this sunday, and I'm getting and closer! The ending choruses get pretty intense. I couldnt do this without your videos! Thanks Timothy! God bless you! Jesus is Lord!

    Seems like there's a million different versions of this song, appreciate that I can always come here to see how it's supposed to be done.

      I love his covers, but don’t forget it’s about jesus. As long as you have the structure right you can always play a variation cutting out some of the crazy fills. Do what fits the spirit in the moment. God bless!

    The chorus 1 (Christ is my firm foundation after the bridge) is the best part to play.

    Love your videos keep it up. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong with my drums but I need help. They’re really tiny. They’re really high and they don’t have that really nice warm thump sound. I even had a buddy come over and tune them for me. it could be the heads and I have to return everything suggestions

    Awesome job! It's been 16 years since I've played. Started me church, and they've asked if I'd be their backup drummer. My feet are giving me issues with tempo. Any exercises you'd recommend to regain it?

    • @havi02
      @havi02 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Play with a metronome, just use the kick for the tempo as you master 90bpm then go progressively faster/higher so…90-95-100-105-110-115-120bpm etc.

    Just curious, when you say it took you a long time to learn this song how long was it? 4 hours, 8 hours? Or did you work on it for an hour over a period of days? Looking to gauge where I am on the scale of drummers?

  • @mattlau95
    @mattlau95 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amazing tutorial, thank you! What drumstick are you using in your left hand? And is there a specific purpose for it? Looking to learn ☺️

      If I’m not wrong that’s just a reverse stick , I guess it’s just to give a more huge sound to the snare

    • @angel_drool
      @angel_drool ปีที่แล้ว

      so he basically just holds the stick upside down

    Random question Timothy, for your in ears click do you subdivide 6/8? If I don’t O tend to drag.

    Can anyone share a tip(besides practice, which I'm already doing lol) to avoid messing on the hits after Chorus 2? 🙏

    • @JoelKreider
      @JoelKreider 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Presumably you have this down by now… However, in the interest of posterity - [counting in 6, coz I haven’t mastered 12 yet]:
      If you mean the hits on the Refrain at 3:30…
      • 1st bar on the 1
      • 2nd bar on the 4
      • 3rd bar on the 1
      • 4th bar on the 1 & 4
      • Harder to count after that, but they largely follow the melody notes for ‘fa-a-a-a-ail’
      If you mean the Refrain at 6:06…
      This is easier for me to count in a different grouping. 4s or 8s.
      2 counts of 8:
      • 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 [snares on 8]
      • 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
      [build 7, & 8]
      Hope that helps [and is correct], if not, it gave me the chance to figure some things out.

    I hate this dude, I am naturally gifted at basically everything so it never takes long at all for me to get something, except on drums so I've been trying to play this for literal hours and I am getting super freaking angry because I just can't get it no matter how hard I try, so please be praying for me

    • @JoelKreider
      @JoelKreider 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Experience speaking here… take breaks, bud. It’s always been counter intuitive, but giving the mind and muscles a chance to rest or play something different for like, 20min has consistently amazed me. Found this out by accident when practicing guitar 20+ yrs ago.
      Was just up waayy too late practicing a fill for this tune, not following my own advice, and never felt I was able to nail it in context. On my drive home, I took the time to listen, and gained a little insight.
      Check out the In-sync Drums version of this one. I’ve seen the signature for this one as 12/8 and 6/4, but as far as I can tell, it can be played with a 6/8 feel.
      With drums I’ve found it paramount, that feeling the Pulse is paramount. Then you can sort of ‘ghost-in’ the other notes to keep time and add flourish.
      Don’t forget to worship a little bit and pay attention to the lyrics tho, sometimes I forget that’s the purpose here too.

      1. Don’t hate anyone
      2. Keep practicing but try worshipping as you do it and it’ll flow easier.
