No I'm saying I'm setup as a business and have what in NY is called a "certificate of authority " some places call it a resale certificate. I file that with ebay and am not charged sales taxes on my purchases intended for resale for my business.
In 2012 I saw Bitcoin was around $15 + I was intrigued but I didn’t buy in. I listened heavily to Gold and Silver blogs/vlogs at that time and went a little heavy into Precious Metals and to oil stocks 😅 at one point I had 2 monster box of silver eagles, about 10 gold eagle coins, large positions in Exxon and Chevron stocks. Fast forward to today I am heavy VTI (SWTSX), some position in real estate, close to half of BTC, heavy in Ethereum - precious metals constitute about 2% of my portfolio and my “investment position” in TCG has grown to about 5% of my portfolio. 🚀
I’m in the purple. Emergency fund > Max 401(K) > Max IRA > HSA > 529 > alternative investments. That’s my flow. I feel comfortable investing in Pokemon and Lego after years of research. It could all go to zero and I’d just open packs and build sets for years. That said, my alternative investments will never exceed 15% of my total retirement savings. Your videos are so underrated.
Thank you! Any reason you go max 401k before max ira? Usually it's 401k to match then ira then 401k again due to generally much higher freedom and lower fees in iras. Some people are spoiled with vanguard or similar 401ks though but I never was
@@KetchumAllCollectibles I have admiral shares of Vanguard 500 in my 401(K). Very low fees. I don’t have an employer match, but I pace myself through the year to max both the 401(K) and IRA. I wouldn’t even consider Pokemon if I wasn’t doing those two things every year.
UK quite a bit different with regards to some of these buckets, but I'd say I'm somewhere in the blue. A big thing with all the investor content is who is the target audience? For people to be in the dark blue/purple theyve had to do a lot of work and a lot of planning. Its fair to say that the average person in these tiers are smarter/savvy than others financially. These people dont need all the content, maybe a few vids and let them have at historical data. A lot of the pokeinvesting content just distracts the average person (red, yellow, orange on the chart) when they should be building their foundations. 100%. I worry a decent amount of people are investing in pokemon in the red to yellow. I guess that makes it potentially even more lucrative for the blue to purples 🤷♂️. All adults can't do much about it
Probably Step 4? I’m short the USD so I don’t do any IRAs or anything because there is no promise that we even use USD in the future + inflation devalues your accounts. I am also under 30. Sp500 is quite inflation resistant. They raise the prices far exceeding inflation generally. Many sp500 components are well into foreign currencies as well and I think will navigate any fundamental economic paradigm shifts well (as a whole)
🧑🚀Fascinating conversation about when to invest. As someone who is somewhere between the blue and purple areas its interesting that your philosophy was to use these product to advance in the brackets. Can't say I ever foresaw any ability to do that. I have a sealed case of each SWSH BB that I sit on as "investments." I do it mostly for fun and to enjoy my hobby and not lose my ass. Don't get me wrong I don't want to lose money. I have vendors license to sell my sealed product. I am pretty much diamond handing them until I see the boxes reach 5 years old. After that I may take some profits if I think the boxes have reach a real stable point or I might just save them until I need the capital for some other investment.
I never anticipated the hobby I started back into in 2014 would become both my job and the largest portion of my net worth but here we are. A lot of luck involved but luck is when prep meets opportunity blah blah. Expected the stuff would go up some but it's pretty much always outperformed my expectations
I 100% hear you and don’t have any skin in the game bc I don’t invest. ( I do collect cards.) but in reference to the “dark time”. It’s interesting you didn’t have buy a house on your list of priorities. I know people at my work that have the other stuff done and contribute to retirement but still live with their parents or rent an apartment. Not because they want to but because they can’t afford to.
There's a lot I could get into here. Obv housing falls into necessary spending. Shelter right up there with food. Rent vs buy is an interesting conversation that I've seen a lot of weird black white binary takes on. There's nuance as always. Some life situations (and geographies) lend better to renting some to buying. Personal finance very personal thing on housing especially. More of a finance channel topic I'd do a few videos on but when I do my spending/more of my personal fiance videos on this channel I'll talk as to why I buy vs rent and why I paid off my mortgage compared to renting or keeping my mortgage etc.
@@KetchumAllCollectibles thanks for responding. To be honest buying a house is more important to me than saving for retirement. Not only financially but as a sense of accomplishment and independence. Having a roof over your head especially if it’s paid off, reduces your overall stress which is the whole reason we’re saving for retirement in the first place.
Yeah again there's a lot I could go into like the fact even once you own there's a lot of ongoing expenses, maintenance, insurance, taxes etc. It's a complicated decision that brings in a lot of factors. Done well you can treat it as a asset that also provides utility done poorly its a liability (still with utility) that you can get destroyed on and near bankrupt your family over it (buying more house than you can afford in a big boom that goes bust)
Lots of common sense & good guidance. Factoring risks and whatif scenario in this kind of "alternative" type of investment (provided it is) is critical if one doesn't want to get hurt. 🧑🚀 dynamical systems are very hard for most people to wrap their heads around (because lets be honest, they're even hard for mathematicians to tackle), and unfortunately it can lead to the backtesting trap. this of course doesn't mean that we can't or shouldn't make reasonable and informed decisions, but the fundamental principles of these kinds of systems can be deceptive to our often linear human brains that are built to be pattern recognition machines
🧑🚀i watched! I am pretty new into collecting/investing. A difficult time with SWSH coming to end of production with lots of FOMO and SV looking uncertain. Sure would help if Pokemon had some new IP that got the hype going again.
Great video, Dan. I'm currently in Step 5 at age 25 and have found my collection has become overwhelming to the point I'm selling a lot off to bring it down to its core of stuff I truly enjoy. The funds raised will give my retirement account a healthy boost. My main focuses for 2024 is to keep collecting Pokemon where I enjoy it, build my retirement fund, small allocations to crypto and also looking to dip my toes into gold this year too. So my portfolio will be diverse. I feel once I started buying items in Pokemon for the "investor" mentality it started to become monotonous which I grew to hate. It's more rewarding just buying stuff I enjoy in Pokemon and if it goes up, great! More people in the Pokemon space should definitely educate themselves to have a basic understanding of personal finance as like you say, I see a lot of people flash selling things when bills hit etc and it's painful to see. Like vultures feeding on a dead carcass haha. Always appreciated your thorough content Dan. Thanks!
Appreciate the watch and the long thoughtful comment! I definitely became overwhelmed in 2020 with how large my collection had grown and thankfully the market 🚀 made it an easy decision to sell most of if
What did you buy from me? Back up your claims. I always refund if someone is unhappy with their items. If it's third party graded that's a different story as I entrust the professional graders with slabbed card condition
@@KetchumAllCollectibles So on your listing photo it have no damage on it and you're the seller of the listing, when there is a problem, do we goes to you or goes after the "third party " that we have no information of, you're not making sense.

@@KetchumAllCollectibles Their job is to only guarantee the authenticity, you suppose to have clear photo and listing description, not to use the photos they take at PSA website for grading and then trying to put this one on the "Third party", you really think they damage the item or it is like that when you send it to them. and you can use that excuse is " Third party" so Shady and Terrible business.
Also, the tiers are a bit different in my country. Mandatory pension funds are pre tax, but they're not invested in anything. The money is spent directly paying off the current retirees. Other pre tax options are very limited and are controlled by a few select companies. They're all actively managed with very high fees and extremely restrictive payout structures, even post retirement. Investing into the snp post tax has historically given much better returns. I've been dialling back on Pokemon investing in the past few years and moving more into filling up my index fund portfolio. Most of my net worth is still in Pokemon, but I'm looking to change that in the coming years. Divesting some of the excess items I no longer enjoy as much and increasing contributions in more traditional financial positions. I'm still keeping up with the market on occcasion. And the finance side of the hobby is pretty fun for me, so I'm always excited to see you publish longer discussion videos like this one
I guess the reason I don’t invest in Crypto is i don’t understand it. Pokemon has the largest IP in the world. Bitcoin just feels like fairy dust to me. I don’t understand it. I understand pokemon and it seems safer.
I was always intrigued by the idea of it. Built a mining rig less for the stocks more for the fun and the idea of it all. I don't think it replaces usd but also I know a lot of things are pretty broken with banks/usd and btc addresses / fixes some of them but obviously has its own and plentiful amount of cons too.
10 yr $100k miles. Always seeking value. 🚀. Cars at least anecdotally are one of the worst things I've seen people first hand destroy their finances with. I buy for the utility and they get me A to B just fine. Not like a kia stan I've driven a lot of makes and models over the years
🧑🚀 thanks for the transparency and entertainment. Well worth it. Also, appreciate sensible financial information for an audience that may not spend all day reading/ listening to financial stuff. More, good financial education is needed, at early age, for all parts of society. My personal take: there are always a few who get in early and hold. Often people who are not in the spotlight. TH-cam changed that a bit. Im sure Rudy. rev. CTR. king P. All did/ doing well. However, expect that there is a sea of individuals just fishing for clicks 😉

Didn’t know u had a math background too Quilly 🫡. Love me some mathematical modeling
🧑🚀i watched! I am pretty new into collecting/investing. A difficult time with SWSH coming to end of production with lots of FOMO and SV looking uncertain. Sure would help if Pokemon had some new IP that got the hype going again.
I'm sure in mid to late SV era they'll reach into their bag of tricks. Maybe a 1/1k umbreon 🙏
Buy Japanese 151 and Vstar!!!!!

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PERSON, This seller is the worst, send you damage cards and expect to get away with it
What did you buy from me? Back up your claims. I always refund if someone is unhappy with their items. If it's third party graded that's a different story as I entrust the professional graders with slabbed card condition
@@KetchumAllCollectibles HOW DARE YOU DAN
@@KetchumAllCollectibles So on your listing photo it have no damage on it and you're the seller of the listing, when there is a problem, do we goes to you or goes after the "third party " that we have no information of, you're not making sense.
@mochaeatsasmr9466 ebay vault/psa authenticity guarantee are there for exactly that reason. Trusted third party. So if you have a problem with what they verify your problem is with them or the third party grader 🤷♂️

Great video. Only criticism I'd give is that you reiterated some points a bit more the necessary
I'm pretty bad with rambling I appreciate you getting through it!
Always interesting to hear the non us situations. Obviously my channel is very NY, USA centric

Bitcoin is the future. Buy now or be left behind

All that money and you bought a kia… lol 😂
10 yr $100k miles. Always seeking value. 🚀. Cars at least anecdotally are one of the worst things I've seen people first hand destroy their finances with. I buy for the utility and they get me A to B just fine. Not like a kia stan I've driven a lot of makes and models over the years

🧑🚀 I appreciate the reality check that you give in your discussions.
Thanks for watching!
