Driving the last Lotus Exige on road and track - Exige Sport 390 Final Edition review

  • The Lotus Exige has always been quite a serious car - a faster, harder, track-ready coupe version of the Elise. As it enters its twilight years it's time to take it for one last drive on road and track to see if it's actually less serious than you'd think…

    Lovely to see someone actually review one of these!
    Seems to have gone very quiet since they were announced.

    Nice video. I agree, the Elise, Exige and Evora will be hard to replace.

      Yep, it’s hilarious when it switches between reasonably quiet thrumming and then that sudden switch at 4,500rpm! It’s like the intake flap opening on an M3 CSL

    The noise this makes is truly amazing. What a lovely car. The end of lightweight Lotus. RIP Lotus

    I like the tongue and cheek representation. Sensational display of what that 3.5V6 can churn out and like you said a ‘mid engine’ is just unbelievable. Especially with the’ Lotus ‘ethos of light weight, it is surprising how this car has gone unnoticed. To truly feeling the drive, the song as you put it ‘Elephants trumpet’
    I think it is a serious buy for Those who want to latch on to a bit of history !!

    I have an evora 410 and I do like the adjustable exhaust modes. . Most of the time it's on elephant mode :) but sometimes you want to cruise quietly and it's nice to have the choice.

    Great video Tim 👍 Really surprised that Lotus chose the Michelin's Pilot Sport 4 instead of the 'PS4S' or the 'Cup 2', but if it still makes the car feel great to drive, then why not!

    And yeah - all V6 Lotus need a setting where the exhaust valve is open all the time.... unfortunately not as easy as pulling a fuse.

    • @TimRodieDrivesStuff
      @TimRodieDrivesStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah - that'd be great! The chaps at the factory were telling me there's a button to open the valve all the time in the Evora, but the Exige was type-approved later on when such things were frowned upon! Thanks for subscribing and watching!

    • @muumble
      @muumble 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TimRodieDrivesStuff I don’t think even the latest Evora can be open all the time(?). Mine is an S1 which opens at 2.4krpm in Sport and around 3.9krpm in normal (I think - first button pressed after it starts is always Sport). You need to pull off and plug vac lines for always-loud.

    • @evansc3580
      @evansc3580 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can by pass the valve by simply "pinching" the valve tube. You just zip-tie the tube that controls the valve and you have it on loud all the time. My Lotus dealer did it for me the day I bought my Exige 410.

  • @jamescarson6681
    @jamescarson6681 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As you demonstrated in the video, the way that V6 bellows at a certain RPM, makes it sound like its got individual throttle bodies or variable valve timing (oops, started to sound a bit w@nk3ry there 😂)

  • @samuelhall2397
    @samuelhall2397 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Theres a valve bypass button that allows you to have the flap open all the time under 4k revs.

      I don’t understand how you discontinue great cars like the Exige. Just strive to make it incrementally better a la the 911. I’m afraid Lotus is losing their ethos, make fun, light, affordable cars.
