I saw the Scorpions live in 2008? And his voice was still amazing, just like the albums. One of the great vocalists. Back when every band had to have a great singer.
As much as I love the Scorpions, I am surprised and fascinated that of the many bands you’ve listened to, you have taken to them as you have. Wouldn’t have guessed it.
I forgot this song existed, it's decades ago since I heard it. But I loved it long time ago and I love it now. And how different people can react: I hear drama, drama, drama, in the video it's all fun and laughter.
Absolutely a great album and probably is their best. One of the best voices in rock and as always great guitar. Always great to see someone from an entirely different world when it comes to music truly enjoy rock.
There is a live version in Barcelona that sounds as though it was catered to the Spanish audience. Then there is a live version from South America that sounds almost Calypso-ish. This song and this band are both VERY versatile. Love these dudes for more than 40 years!
Greetings and Love from Germany again 💚...the sad E- Guitar at the very end gives me the feeling of the sadness that comes over me, (that everyone gets, i believe, ) cause it's the last the day of the vacation and i had to leave that wonderful place, going back home to my sad everyday life...
If you want to check out some harder stuff from the scorpions , I would recommend ,When Passion Rules The Game, Coming Home, and, Bad Boys Running Wild.
You make me really listen to these songs that has been with me all my life..They are apart of who I am... but Ive just taken them for granted. You add new dimensions somehow, making me appreciate them in a new way. Thank you! :)
Michael Schenker was a founding member and the original lead guitarist for Scorpions at 16 years old, then left to join UFO. Michael went back to Scorpions on the Love Drive album of which this song came. Michael Schenker wrote the majority of this song as well as contributing to others.
@@usernroll2525 Rudolf was rhythm guitarist and still is. Michael was the lead guitarist at 16 years old and is five years younger than Rudolf. They were both founding members.
Michael Schenker has nothing to do with this song at all!!! The music was written by Rudolph, and the lead guitar belongs to Matthias!!! Michael Schenker has not done anything outstanding for the Scorpions, either as a guitarist or as a composer!!!
@@АлександрМакаров-г9з from Scorpion’s drummer Herman Rarebell. “Michael was in the band, but I think he didn’t think he’d be there for long, because at the back of his mind he had MSG. So Matthias didn’t really know where his future was. But Michael played on the album, and Matthias played lead guitar on some of the album; For instance, on the song I wrote, Another Piece of Meat, Michael played rhythm guitar, with Rudolf, and Michael plays the solo in the middle. On Loving You Sunday Morning, the first solo is Michael, and the second one is Matthias… or maybe it’s the other way round (laughs). Songs like Holiday and Coast To Coast are Michael Schenker completely. So he had a big impact on this album. It’s also the album where I started to write my first lyrics, for Loving You Sunday Morning and Is Anybody There?, and my first music for Another Piece of Meat. So it was typically an album of group effort. Later on when we went on the road to promote the album, Matthias came out on the road with us two or three times; After that he said ‘look, you’ve got to make up your mind, it’s me or Michael’. But Michael took it out of our hands by saying he was going to do MSG; so after that Matthias was the man and he was in the band”. Thanks for clearing that up. It’s something I’ve often wondered about. “It’s funny, because Michael was the one who introduced me to the Scorpions. We were both Germans living in England and knew each other. He said ‘my brother Rudolf’s band are coming over. They need a drummer and you should audition’!. And then, when he had his big fight with UFO, I said ‘why don’t you come to Germany and join us?’, but he said he would just help us out, which is how the whole thing came together. But I was hoping that Michael would join permanently. The last song on the album is Holiday. “The guitar melodies on there again make this a wonderful Michael Schenker ballad; And then Klaus’ vocal melodies on top. Wonderful. The basic composition came from Michael and Rudolf but again you can hear Michael all over it.” Full Interview sentineldaily.com.au/classics-track-by-track-lovedrive/
@stevenewcomer8837 At the heart of the main success are Rudolph, Klaus, and of course Matthias!!! It was they who brought the Scorpions to the musical Olympus and made the band legendary!!! Rarebell(like Schenker Jr.), he participated only in writing a few songs, he also did not contribute anything SIGNIFICANT to the band's work!!! Rarebell and Schenker, they are both "storytellers" and offended!!! They tell in each interview how "much" they have done for the success of the ensemble(although, I repeat, THEY BOTH DID NOT DO ANYTHING OUTSTANDING!!! THIS ALSO APPLIES TO Uli Roth!!!)they consider themselves to be who they really are not!!!!!!! Buchholz is a THIEF(although a great bass player).Rarebell is a mediocre drummer( the weakest in their entire career), Schenker is an alcoholic and drug addict with unstable behavior and character(a lying and vile scoundrel, simply put)!!!! Rarebell,Schenker, and even Roth, they all vomit envy and jealousy, attaching themselves to the glory of the Scorpions, although they themselves did nothing for this!!! I know you're a Schenker fan, BUT FOR THE SCORPIONS, there's ONLY ONE SCHENKER,and that's RUDOLPH!!!
This showcases beautifully the well-known Scorpions sound. Although, IMHO, their best moments were exactly before that, when Uli Roth was still with the band. I think "In Trance" is still their best album, with a more variable sonic soundscape than what came later. Anyway... I grew up listening to Holiday and Always Somewhere from "Lovedrive"! I belong in the generation that considers Still Loving You as a (fine) repetition of an already used formula.
Yes, Scorpions ballad again! I told you how much I love their ballads. I, however, find this song melancholic and both the lyrics and the music are symbolic to me. For me, it is a desire to escape the reality for a while, but not being able to do so. He never mentions that he's gone to that holiday. It's only in his mind and dreams. Well, of course, this might be how my brain process it, since it always tends to hear saddness or darkness, rather than looking at things on the bright side. Anyway, thank you for this one. 🖤 Maybe this song feels too random to choose, but I am happy with it. Any Scorpions ballad is perfect choice for me.
YES! I especially feel that melancholy in the outro. I could listen to that for hours. The dissonant sound of the distorted chords vs the clean really bring the sadness out to me. Especially the section with the contrary motion, where the notes simultaneously go in opposite directions. It's like he's sinking deeper as he thinks of how beautiful the place he imagines is. I love the fact that she played the full-length version instead of the edited one that leaves out the long outro. THANKS, AMY!
@@One_Proud_Papa Exactly, I feel the same. And I really like how you described it about sinking deeper. My English is not good enough to express my thoughts perfectly, but you've just done it for me. The only difference is that I feel that saddness the same throughout the whole song.
I fully agree to melancholy, but for me it is not about sadness, but longing. There is a solution. You and me, we can just go and get out of these things holding us back.
So glad You did a review of that song, it's my favorite song of the Scorpions. (but I prefer the live version, Klaus Meine has not just a brilliant voice, he also has an immense presence when live on stage. Way more powerful than of the studio.)
This song clocks in anywhere between 6½ to almost 7 minutes (depending on if it's the original studio mix or the 1989 remix), but there's an even longer mix that runs about 9 minutes, and the extra 3 mins is an extended ending which picks up with a heavier drum beat while maintaining the slow, steady tempo, which I liken to Lady Starlight from the 1980 album, Animal Magnetism.
Wonderful to see you come back to the Scorpions, Amy. I'd like to introduce you to a different side of theirs, as they often have a metal sound. I request the song China White. Apart from the powerful feel, there are two things about it I think you’ll appreciate. I think it has their finest lyrics, which are plaintive, and call on humanity to quit squandering our chance at a beautiful world. Also, since you liked Holiday's backing vocal section, there are absolutely haunting backing vocals on China White by guitarist Rudolf Schenker, to go with the impassioned lead vocal by Klaus Meine. Side note, Holiday's backing vocal was Meine himself, as he was double-tracked. Thanks!
You have to listen to the Acoustica version. Acoustica was a live album from 2001 they recorded with the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra. The whole album contains brilliant re-recordings of many of their greatest hits. It gives all songs a new face. A bit like Eric Claptons Unplugged album.
i saw The Scorpions do this song at a metal festival in the Wesphalhalle in Dortmund, Germany in 1985/6, some big bands on including Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden and Der Leppard. Scorpions were brilliant and the crowd singing to Holiday, considering this wasn't a partisan Scorpions crowd was LOUD, Klaus just let them get on with it for a few lines, I became a fan that day. Their live album is well worth a listen too
For the last 40 years this has been the song I listen to in the plane during taxing/takeoff when I am going on vacation. Always brings a smile to my face reminiscing about past trips and looking forward to the one I am just leaving on.
"Lady Starlight" is the only song in the entire Scorpions discography so far (as of 2018) to include an arrangement for strings and orchestral winds. 謝謝你。
Wonderful to sit along with you on this one, dear lady :) One thing to note is that back in the days when this was released it was, of course, on vinyl and Holiday was the last track on side two - that fade out was timed so that, as it becomes nearly inaudible, the needle lifts off the record :).
If you love this one, you should also try "Maybe I Maybe You" and "Born To Touch Your Feelings". Those are IMO some of the most beautiful Rock ballads ever.
*Lovedrive and Animal Magnetism are my two favorite Scorpions albums. Back then I would listen to those two over and over. Every song on them are good listening.*
Everything you said is true, but I'm still left wondering why a song about going on holiday (maybe to Spain, from the guitar scales used in the interludes) should be so melancholy in feel. Maybe it's about longing to go far away while still being trapped in a depressing reality at home. It's more like dreaming of getting away from it all, an escape into the imagination, than actually being there.
This is also from Germany : Nena was a West German Neue Deutsche Welle band formed in West Berlin in 1981. In 1983 and 1984, their German-language song "99 Luftballons" (and its English version, "99 Red Balloons") reached number one in the singles charts of countries around the world.
Speaking of holidays. If you want something special and super romantic and epic, may I suggest the album 'Discovery' by Mike Oldfield. there is a good story in the first track(To France). it was a hit here in the Netherlands and Europe in the mid eighties.Mike is on a scale and level of his own. Some wil argue he is underrated. I say he is just a fantastic genius. he's got an interesting life story to tell and this reflects much in all his works as with many musical geniuses. Mostly all his albums are very much very listenable and melodic, sometimes a bit pop or disco, often Celtic influences but even classical (''Music of the Spheres and others). He is a very a distinct musician. His best known album is Tubular Bells(also part of ost the exorcist), a masterpiece and his first but very technical piece, personally I prefer his later albums far more musically. I regret that he is now a pensioner ;-( I say, give it a try, maybe you'll get hooked for life as I and many others did... Mike will always take you on a journey, with rolling hills and deep green valleys and fantastic summits. maybe you could even team up with Doug Helvering for this trip....he already did Tubular Bells...
The guitarist of this Scorpions band, Rudolf Schenker, has a brother who also formed a band called the Michael Schenker Group and will also have some very beautiful songs with musical quality such as the theme "Cry for the Nations" or the "On and On". Why not listen to it for the first time?
Found your channel by chance. Love your insights and reactions to some of the most iconic rock music. You've earned a new subscriber. I eagerly await your next video. And if i may, i would to submit the following two songs dor your future consideration: Right Here Waiting - Richard Marx Take Me Home, Country Road - John Denver (not really Rock, but would love to hear your thoughts on this song.)
First, I do like the Scorpions. This song takes me back. But back where, or should I say when? Right to the over-produced, all too indulgent studio albums of the 80's. Exactly what Spinal Tap parodies so well.
A lot of nice background vocalizing in this. I also love how my German brothers pronounce their English, it's almost easier for me to understand it. They stick to the German way of pronouncing vowels, so their voices remind me of my grandparents' way of speaking, which we still have some remnants of ("other" sounds like "udder", "the" sounds like "dee"). Old habits die hard.
Michael Schenker wrote and played this track, but was not properly credited on Lovedrive. I recommend Michael Schenker far more than the Scorpions. MS has put out 48 studio albums and is still going strong.
To me, they are the ones that brought the Power Ballad to the mainstream. 4 eras for the Scorpions; 1st with Uli Roth, then Lovedrive era, which ended in the late 80's, and up till the Winds of change era which I believe just ended, now is the Las Vegas era. You should try "We'll Burn the sky" a poem penned by Jimmy Hendrix's GF after his death
Good call :) For me, the strongest emotional memory to a Scorpions tune is definitely Loving You Sunday Morning - that's pure art reminding of life I confess but the memories have held for forty years and counting :)
The SCORPS are an amazing Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band. It’s a shame you have not yet heard any of their Hard Rock/Heavy Metal songs. POLAR NIGHTS or ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE are essential songs from their catalog. If you want to listen to ballads, I recommend THE CARPENTERS.
Rock you like a hurricane isn’t in the same universe as Holiday. You want ballads listen to the Carpenter’s shows such a shallow understanding of what made the Scorpions so loved. They even have a double album of just ballads. Anyway, to each his own. You can listen to RYLAH all you want, I’ll stick to their deeper catalogue.
Thank you so much!!! Finally someone reacted to this song. I don't know why nobody else is doing it.
One of the best Rock Ballads, imo!
It was fun to listen to it with you!

Klaus Meine, the singer, is one of the few male rock singers whose voice I would actually call beautiful. He is rather unique in that way.
Kluas Meine joined the band in 1972.

Klaus had and still has the typical German-English, so he doesn't take pronunciation too seriously, but that's one of his trademarks

Everything you said is true, but I'm still left wondering why a song about going on holiday (maybe to Spain, from the guitar scales used in the interludes) should be so melancholy in feel. Maybe it's about longing to go far away while still being trapped in a depressing reality at home. Nena was a West German Neue Deutsche Welle band formed in West Berlin in 1981.
Hi Amy, you would love send me an angel from Scorpions Crazy World album. Beautiful song.
Ooooh great choice!
5:03 YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH LET'S GOO!!! hahaha I love this
The guitarist of this Scorpions band, Rudolf Schenker, has a brother who also formed a band called the Michael Schenker Group and will also have some very beautiful songs with musical quality such as the theme "Cry for the Nations" or the "On and On".
Why not listen to it for the first time?
Found your channel by chance. Love your insights and reactions to some of the most iconic rock music. You've earned a new subscriber. I eagerly await your next video. And if i may, i would to submit the following two songs dor your future consideration:
Right Here Waiting - Richard Marx
Take Me Home, Country Road - John Denver (not really Rock, but would love to hear your thoughts on this song.)
This is a song of Charon, the mythological ferryman who lies to you about the sun and carries souls across the River Styx. Far away.
First, I do like the Scorpions. This song takes me back. But back where, or should I say when? Right to the over-produced, all too indulgent studio albums of the 80's. Exactly what Spinal Tap parodies so well.
Holiday is great, Life’s Like A River even better (from : In Trance)
You should do Scorpion's "Send Me An Angel"....Wonder how the breakdown is gonna be....👍👍👍👍
A lot of nice background vocalizing in this.
I prefer Scorpions' work in the 1970s. They were just so much more FUN!
Michael Schenker wrote and played this track, but was not properly credited on Lovedrive. I recommend Michael Schenker far more than the Scorpions. MS has put out 48 studio albums and is still going strong.
Scorpions - lady starlight
To me, they are the ones that brought the Power Ballad to the mainstream. 4 eras for the Scorpions; 1st with Uli Roth, then Lovedrive era, which ended in the late 80's, and up till the Winds of change era which I believe just ended, now is the Las Vegas era. You should try "We'll Burn the sky" a poem penned by Jimmy Hendrix's GF after his death
Would love to see you harp that intro
And that outro as well lol
The zoo, black out....some scorps rockers!!!
Still have the vinyl.
Glad she didn't show the cover lol. Lovely tune; haunting.
That second high harmony Klaus recorded next to his main track is outstanding.
As is his main track.
i used to listen to the early Scorps before the rock stuff. What was the blues albums they did?
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉⭐🙏🤟🤟🤟💪💪💪
My Scorpions recommendation is "No One Like You". They had several hits but this was their best song by a mile in my opinion.
Good call :) For me, the strongest emotional memory to a Scorpions tune is definitely Loving You Sunday Morning - that's pure art reminding of life I confess but the memories have held for forty years and counting :)
Far away from “Still loving you"...
Lalala holiday lalala 😞
2nd watch luffff ur channel
Hallo from Germany
Please react to their song "Lorelei" it's really nice :D
holiday is just a standard scorpions song - not their very best, but will do just fine
Great video :D
It would be interesting if you listened to the song by WEIRD FISHES/ ARPEGGI of Radiohead.
Greetings
Dio - Holy Diver
The SCORPS are an amazing Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band. It’s a shame you have not yet heard any of their Hard Rock/Heavy Metal songs. POLAR NIGHTS or ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE are essential songs from their catalog. If you want to listen to ballads, I recommend THE CARPENTERS.
The Zoo live!
Tom waits + better Miller.
I never talk to strangers. 😊
🤘🤘😉
What version of the song is this? This isn't the studio version or the demo version.
Please can you do Al Di Meola.
When I think of classic Scorpions I think of "The Zoo" and "Rock You Like a Hurricane". Balls to the wall rock guitars!
