I’m in Washington State. I have had a motorcycle license all my life. I purchased a 5 year international drivers license at AAA. Cheap and easy. Borrow someone’s scooter or small bike in the US and take the written test. Very easy. If you want to avoid in other testing requirements sign up for a weekend motorcycle course and in most states that’s all you need.
In Calif. to get a motorcycle license you do the written test, then you can take a CHP safety class that includes the bike and counts as the driving test for the DMV. Then an IDP is $20 from AAA. I have been pulled over probably 20 times in Thailand, they 100% will know how to read your IDP and if you have a motorcycle endorsement. If you do have it you just pull it out from under the seat, show them and drive off.
It’s okay to say a place isn’t for you. I noticed how careful you are and reluctant you are. Be thankful for the experience, no regrets….We need to accept the Philippines isn’t going to be paradise for every Westerner. I am thankful for my experiences, but after this final trip in January…it’s going to be some time before I return. After the last 2 1 month trips, I have felt exhausted when I returned…the cost verse reward isn’t there for me.
I will say one thing I have learned from research. Bargirls in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia are not tested like they're required to be in the Philippines which is??? I would bet some girls in Pattaya maybe 10 plus times in a day... Make me love the Philippines just a lil bit more 😁😁
Super tips on the drivers license! I have a motorbike license in the UK so added a note to my retirement checklist to ensure I get the international license. Just not worth taking the chance of getting pulled over and not having a driver license IMHO. Retirement for me isn't about running the gauntlet. Nice comparison, much appreciated. Cheers
Brent Excellent video. Good down to earth points. Youre the first ive heard to mention the bike endorsement. Ive always been extremely wary of the police / military in Thailand in general, based on having seen some scary stuff. Also great comment on the bear claws, big hands n feet, plus the crocodile dundee test....lol... Enjoy your last few days.. Based on my experiences the Philippines wins hands down, but of course its not perfect.... Cheers Glenn
You posted and spent sometime in Mexico, would of been interesting to have included that country too in your comparisons. Been living in Thailand nearly 5 years, I have a car and a motorbike, finally have a 5 years Thai license, which is better than my home country the U.K. as once your over 70 years old you have to renew it every year! Once your over 50 years old it’s easy just to use a reputable trustworthy agent, especially in Pattaya to get a renewable one year visa. I like your no nonsense straightforward approach, will follow you wherever you go 👍. Had long term relationships with women from Philippines, Thailand, Colombia and Dominican Republic, over the last 20 years, that’s one subject that’s down to each of us to experience! 😊
Good information and comparisons. Having been to Thailand approximately 20 times and now sitting in Siquijor for the 2nd time in the Philippines, for me it is Thailand. But you are correct regarding the Philippine people, the happiest in all of Asia. However, you left out one obvious downside of Thailand... and this is not all of Thailand and of all Thai's but enough so that is obvious; there is a two tier pricing system. Very often there is a local Thai price and a foreign price. Not in modern established stores, but markets and mom and pot stands .
What top three places to stay for single traveler in valencia? Excellent video. Go down southern Thailand city trang and krabi and all the islands you will love it😊
Accommodations are pretty limited in Valencia so finding a place can be difficult depending on how long you plan on staying. Check out air bnb and ask around when you get there for a better deal
AAA/Travel offices issue International Drivers permit here in the US. Good for 1 year. Yes you do need motorcycle endorsement on your Driver License. Think AAA charged $15 or 20 for each stamp and they require photo and your current valid driver license for each. Think Thai only allows 30 days for international permit! Longer than that they want you to get your Thai license.
Sounds like you’re having some fun in Thailand…..or is it Disneyland? Philippines is more restrained in comparison. It’s more relaxed but also there’s less going on. When you head back to the Americas maybe you could give us a Thailand, Philippines, Mexico comparison. I think Mexico could challenge Thailand when it comes to food.
it's usually just a couple hundred bucks for a 2 day safety course in most states. i just did it in Kentucky and they gave me a certificate to take to the dmv and they slapped the endorsement on there for me, no test. the school provided the bike and we were responsible for our own helmet and over the ankle shoes.
Same thing in Florida for under $200 you take a 2-day safety course, the bike is provided, pass the course and take the certificate to the DMV and get your motorcycle endorsement added to your driving license.
I know in Texas you can take classes for motorcycles that also teach you how to ride and will do the riding test along with it so all you will have to do is go into the DMV and take the written and then you have your motorcycle license
Feel free to tell another video about how much it cost to live in the Philippines. Because I'm going there and I've got to know. I only make about $2,200 a month on SSI. Can I make it. I have a lot in savings. I mean a real lot.
You said that because that was what is your experience.. not someone told you. Make it sure when you come back in the Philippines you go the doctor and have HiV test.
If food matters and it does, if healthcare matters when retired, if infrastructure matters, if treatment of dogs matters if all this matters.... Thailand WINS HUGE. Philippines is a 3rd World country poor as hell lots of begging damn roosters & Thailand is a world class country this is not even worth debating Thailand by a landslide. if your poor and want to be around poverty Philippines maybe your choice but if you have any money Thailand all day. 2nd place Vietnam and 3rd Bali..... Philippines wayyyy down the list i visited was happy to go back to Thailand...
If you want comfort, then why even leave your home countries? 😅 for cheaper living? Anyway, y'all can move on, stay forever in Thailand, and leave the Philippines alone.
To many ladyboys there . 😂 100% . Im off to the Dominican republic this winter . I love the black girls . Maybe a few weeks in Jamaica 🇯🇲 . Its a short flight from Toronto . 😊
How does it work in the DR? Is it like Jamaica with its all inclusive resorts that keep you from mixing with the locals? Lots of unrest in the DR, are there towns or cities that are still controlled by the government?
@@dumaguetedreamingI just took local buses everywhere cheap and comfortable, nicer areas along the northern coast. DR is a beautiful country! 😊. Cheap hotels everywhere, just be sensible and use common sense, it does help to know a little Spanish!
Lol lol. Lol lol. Crocodile Dundee trick on them that's funny Love your videos
This guy tells no lies. That's what I like about him. No BS
I hate to admit it, but I've probably watched 12 of these videos Thailand versus Philippines, & Brent, this is one of the best!!
Thanks

Thanks Brent! One of the better TL v PH vids I’ve seen because you’re candid and a straight shooter.

This is the video I've been waiting for. I appreciate your take on this comparison.
Agree with you on Asian & Latina women!
Glad it was helpful!
I have driven in TH for 3 years, probably 5000-6000km, hundreds of traffic stops, never once been stopped.
Really like your channel. I have the resources and the time. 57 years old great pension but I just need the balls to just do it.
Wish I had a great pension, lots off men would like to be in your position..life is short my friend
I'm with you on that topic. I just need to do it.
I came to the Philippines about 1 1/2 years ago. I only wish I could have come earlier.😊

Great point. But I find that in the Philippines also
FYI- You can transfer a valid unexpired US drivers license at a main or designated P.I. LTO office for a total of 1285 PHP with no fixers-
Great watching you back with another video bro keep enjoying you vacation 🎉
Thanks! Will do!

In the Philippines its Planes Trains and Automobiles Donkeys Mules to get where you want to go 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Speaking of food, and as a Texan, have you ever had aged AAA Alberta beef. I know Texas has great beef. How's the beef in thailand.
Im not sure but i bet i have. If its served in texas/ Oklahoma I’ve more than likely had it Beef is my go to back home
That was very informative and funny, so living costs are about the same or is it noticeably cheaper in Thailand?
Yes
@@brentstrippin8867 Its cheaper or the same?
