  • Bob Marley, OM (6 February 1945 - 11 May 1981) was a Jamaican singer-songwriter who became an international musical and cultural icon,[1][2][3][4][5] blending mostly reggae, ska, and rocksteady in his compositions. Starting out in 1963 with the group the Wailers, he forged a distinctive songwriting and vocal style that would later resonate with audiences worldwide. The Wailers would go on to release some of the earliest reggae records with producer Lee "Scratch" Perry.[6]
After the Wailers disbanded in 1974,[7] Marley pursued a solo career upon his relocation to England that culminated in the release of the album Exodus in 1977, which established his worldwide reputation and elevated his status as one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, with sales of more than 75 million records.[8][9] Exodus stayed on the British album charts for 56 consecutive weeks. It included four UK hit singles: "Exodus", "Waiting in Vain", "Jamming", and "One Love". In 1978, he released the album Kaya, which included the hit singles "Is This Love" and "Satisfy My Soul". The greatest hits album, Legend, was released in 1984, three years after Marley died. It subsequently became the best-selling reggae album of all time.
Diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma in 1977, Marley died on 11 May 1981 in Miami at age 36. He was a committed Rastafari who infused his music with a sense of spirituality.[10]:242[11] He is credited with popularizing reggae music around the world and served as a symbol of Jamaican culture and identity. Marley has also evolved into a global symbol and has inspired a significant merchandise industry.

I love how Bob Marley allowed everyone in his group to speak. When the question was asked if they believe there is a black leader I said yeah Bob is. The discussions between these great men was amazing I wish people talk like this today and light the fire under the people to fight against Babylon and help fix the problems.

It was clear from this video that Bob Marley was ill !
He was visibly tired, and despite his undiluted love for music, he hadn't expected the scrutiny that came with stardom!
I am very moved by his appearance and mood here!
I am even deeply saddened that Earl Wire Lindo , Carlton Barrett, Tyrone Downie and art director Neville Garrick who are all in this video have also passed away!

What bothers me is ( I know I will offend many people, and BOb himself!) his (and their) absolut conviction about God existence.. I respect that entirely and I'm not saying God doesn't exist, but I mean how can someone be convinced of it?!? First, all the misery, wickedness, injustice all around the worl since the beginning of times, should lead people to doubt about HIM..
and, second, why God decided to deprive us of such a man in barely the middle of his lifetime?? ( Sure he did so much in such a half lifetime, but anyway!!

Half Irish where? And why would he embrace it? The white man who was his father left him and any other Irish/English background would have likely come from slavery. Furthermore being in a country which is predominantly people of African descent, why would he? Lastly, why are you so narrow minded that you need him to embrace whiteness? Why can’t he be a Black artist, making Black music, embracing his Blackness and still be a world artist? Says a lot about you that he has to embrace whiteness to be a world artist. Geez, you people’s fixation on race, particular when it comes to Black people is sickening.

The interview date is wrong. Bob wasn't in a position for this kind of interview in 1981 when he was fighting for his life. Moreover the album which was under discussion was Survival which was released in October 1979.

I'm sorry to over turn your beautifully written comment but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and the Greek and roman narrative is stolen from the Hebrew one, so rastafari is therefore very much an African concept based on the reality of the times we live in, and if you look at where Jewish history started, you will realise that it starts in an African populated Egypt with moses ,as no one has ever found any grave of Abraham who also lived in Egypt for a while. Moses told them that they were the decendants of Abraham.
The name Jesus is a total invention of the Greek and no human by the name of Jesus ever existed 2000+ years ago. The chosen people syndrome is just that, a story of the story of a story that they adapted to fit into their own narrative, but since the conquistadors decendants wrote the last one, they think that only they can control the narrative. Christ is a philosophical concept open to anyone's interpretation, weather Greek, roman, orthodox and yes even rasta people too! ❤

Rasta’s don’t do the nazarite vow correctly, and if he followed it correctly he would’ve been able to clean his body of that cancer without having to cut off the toe, in ancient Israelite and Essene Israelite culture they believed in natural healing using the earth as a resource of cleaning your body of dis-eases. Cutting off body parts, or cutting into your body was not an option for them your body needed to be blemish free of scares and marks from surgery

@@hw5091 I don’t believe that in no way shape or form, the Bible states Alohyim created the Earth as a medicine and food for man. Genesis 1:29, 1Timothy 5:23, Psalms 104:14, Exodus 10:15, Ecclesiasticus 38:4.

He knew it could kill him, he probably also knew modern medicine could have saved his life, but that would go against the whole movement of Rastafarianism which he started and believed in. To get the toe amputated and take the treatment would he like turning his back on what he preached.

In then spring of 1981, Bob's journey toward Jamaica from Germany was rather rushed, with him being in deteriorating health meaning time was of the essence. It's very imaginative at the least to say he went as far out of the route as Los Angeles!
This is actually a 1979 interview, just after the release of he Survival album. It's very educational and entertaining, but to lie that it's a 1981 interview, or that it was Bob's last known interview is disingenuous.
