I really appreciate your methodical, unhurried explanations. Easy to understand, even with the accent. Wonderful melodic playing. Makes me appreciate my own SV1 again.
I think the SV2-73 is a good buy. It's the only professional stage piano with 73 keys and a graded weighted action. While the S (speaker) version is convenient, it is hard to source and considerably more expensive, particularly in the 73 key format. But with only 73 keys (not 88) you save money and weight and you don't need a bigger car. I understand that the SV pianos are not so good for switching voices and getting consistent volumes, but all the portable (non stage) pianos are the same in these respects, even the RD88, which is supposed to be a stage piano. I think I could put up with those things on a highly portable instrument with great sounds, a great action and handy controls. And I think the SV2-88 should be a go-to instrument for sound companies that supply everything on stage. I have seen pianists struggle desperately to control the supplied Roland RD-2000 or Nord Grand/Stage piano when it's their first time with the exact instrument. Valuable performance time is lost as the engineer runs back and forth pushing buttons for the pianist. Supposedly, the CP-88 is quicker to learn than those, but honestly, seconds count on stage, so menu systems suck first time round.
Just a comment, Personally I got the SV1 for the sound closeness to the Fender Rhodes and Wurly. If you have a rig then most likely you'll have a keyboard for the piano sounds, strings, etc. But if you're only going to get one keyboard and you're going to use the piano sound to give solo recitals on Chopin and Beethoven then I'd look elsewhere. They put SV for a reason SV=Stage Vintage...it's supposed to sound retro.
Thanks for the clear and comprehensive discussion. Would love to get an SV-2. I just picked up a used SV-1 here in SG for $400, needs $400 main board replacement though. Still worth it.
Watching this makes me appreciate my stage keyboard more than ever. Yamaha CK88. I has 300 + sounds that i thought it wasn't a pleasant when compare it other keyboard with 1000+ sounds like workstation keyboard. I felt like chose the wrong type of keyboard. But seeing this, not anymore
This is a working musicians instrument. If your a keyboard geek, you will only find faults with this unit. If your a blues jazz fan, you will not find one problem with it. I own a SV-2 88 which I play through an Ampeg BA-115. It has as much volume as I need in live & studio settings. The best keybed I have owned and only the sounds I want & use without the geek b/s. Best modern day Rhodes option available. 10/10 Korg.
Thank you for the video Jeremy. I’m not a keys player but I make beats and considering adding this to my setup for sampling and session players. The sound is so inspiring to me. ‘The other orchestral sounds’; do these to extend to wind instruments also? Also is it possible to route a external pitch / modulation wheel? Sucks that it doesn’t have these feature!
And horns. I thought there was a lot to be said for the horns. I think the keyboard feel is also a big part of horn section playing on the unit. It has so much soul. In fact, the RH3 on my SV2 is the best feel I’ve ever had on any electric keyboard. The SV2 is an E. Piano beast… I feel connected again, like a freshly adjusted Wurlitzer! Not necessarily as superior for Ac. Pianos as for EPs but pretty danged expressive.
Tried the Korg SV2S 88 yesterday at City Music and the overall experience is good. Unfortunately, Jeremy doesn’t have the SV2S to try out the speakers. Speakers sound great but 2x15W is not loud enough. Just enough for personal use. The worst deal breaker for me is the vibrating noise from something touching the chassis when playing the middle F note (using piano) at full speaker volume!!! And apparently, someone from Korg forum has the same issue so this isn’t an isolated glitch. Totally unacceptable for a stage piano at this price!
I agree with you that seeing a particle board on the bottom of an expensive new keyboard is disappointing. But imagine how you'd feel if you just got a Kronos 2 88 or a Yamaha Montage 8 and found that the underside is--a particle board. This really needs to stop.
Hello Jeremy. Your videos have been very concise, easy to understand, and above all very informative. Thank you very much for that. Have you ever reviewed the Kawai ES110 as a stage piano? Just asking. Again, thank you for your well done digital piano and keyboard reviews.
My biggest complain about the SV1 is the quality of the acoustic pianos and also only 2 sound packs ... KORG didn't really make an effort to give more sounds . Best sound is the Fender Rhodes .... Don't know about this SV2 model ... But after 10 years !? Should be nice that SV1 owners can also use the new sounds ....
MDF as timber in a keyboard, is of no consequence. Sv2 DOES respond to pitch via an external pitch bend unlike some nords. Organs are great using the app editor, but yes limited in scope.
Could you elaborate on what you mean by "Sv2 DOES respond to pitch via an external pitch bend"? Do you mean a currently available pitch/mod wheel mounted and connected where? Thanks for addressing my ignorance on this matter.
Hi Jeremy. I wonder if you thought it was annoying how the "sound" indicator disappears when you choose a favorite, so you can't tell what instrument and variation that favorite is based on. Maybe you're just supposed to remember? All the other lights indicate, for example, what the modulation setting of the favorite is. I guess I'm wondering if other people have noticed that...might be better for a message board, but you have a good critical eye!

Hi Jeremy the sv2 looks awesome..May I suggest you do a review I’ve Roland fp80.. I know it’s ancient history but it remains the best keyboard. It has a great piano sound and others. Very good review. I had written on another review of this board that there is a reason the Korg Grandstage is called their Flagship. Even though it's only a couple hundred dollars more it surpasses the SV2 by far and for many of the aspects you pointed out that the SV2 came up short. Have you played at the Grandstage? I'd be curious to see your review. I seriously have played them all and chose the Grandstage. Never looked back. Thanks for the review.
Loved this review Jeremy! Very thorough and honest. I am currently considering buying SV2 but on the other hand Electro 6hp is also very tempting. Of course very different instruments. Have you had opportunity to compare those two? What is your opinion?

Great review. Did you find that the knobs are more wobbly than the SV1? I just read someone complaining about this on a user group. What are your thoughts on the knobs on the SV2
I think they are just different animals but share similar sounds and key action. SV2 lacks layering and splitting on-the-fly, the ninth touch curve "wide", dynamics knob... but has direct access to effects and has the tube. Anyway, a comparison like that will be interesting.
Hey man, love your channel and vibe! i wonder how you compare the keybed of the sv2 with the fp30. i have the fp30 now and happy with the keybed but want to upgrade the sounds. would you recommend the update?
i agree the stock piano sounds kind of suck... however... i've had the SV2 88 for about 3 months now... and i REALLY like the piano 1 sound number THREE. i don't know what it is called. also here is a tip. TURN OFF THE REVERB. for some reason they all come with way too much reverb.
New video idea (been done before on other channels but) how about going to the music shop and just have a walk thru it and whatever they have on display play it a bit and give your experience and your impressions from your experience.
I LOVE the physical dials. Menus are not good for a situation where you have under a second to make changes. Someday other manufacturers will realize menus suck. Please abandon menus.
Particle board is the deal breaker for me. I despise it in virtually every application you might ever see it used. It's super heavy for its offered strength, and there's no way I'd accept it as a main structural surface of my $2K electronic keyboard.
I just got an SV2 but the sustain function doesn’t seem to work for notes that are being played after the pedal is down, do you know what might be causing this?
Thanks buddy. You can set the scale tuning via the software editor and save into a preset. Every imaginable scale is possible because you can make your own scales on top of those already available.
Besides the complaint I have regarding the panning tremolo going to mono when the single/mono tube amp circuit is used, I don’t like how coarse the increments are on the rotary encoders, They should have also included the CX-3 tonewheel modeling sounds and offered an optional drawbar accessory.
I don't get it.... 9:40 3 layers, ONE split point (adjustable)... 7:54 72 voices? I mean, this is great, and it's a great instrument, but this costs $2100 and the Korg Nautilus costs $2700 and SMASHES these stats, right? What am I missing?
Can’t believe they want a person to use a laptop or computer to layer sounds on this board?what were they thinking?they more than likely lost a lot of sales for this genius thinking.

Hey man, love your channel and vibe! i wonder how you compare the keybed of the sv2 with the fp30. i have the fp30 now and happy with the keybed but want to upgrade the sounds. would you recommend the update?
Hey, I’m in the same boat, wt did you decided ?
Excellent review!
Thank you buddy.
Good review Jeremy.
Good review, thank you.
i agree the stock piano sounds kind of suck... however... i've had the SV2 88 for about 3 months now... and i REALLY like the piano 1 sound number THREE. i don't know what it is called. also here is a tip.
Could someone compare the sensitivity of the keys with other models and other brands?
Particle board is the deal breaker for me. I despise it in virtually every application you might ever see it used. It's super heavy for its offered strength, and there's no way I'd accept it as a main structural surface of my $2K electronic keyboard.
Insane.
Korg uses this in all of their flagship keyboards. I've never had an issue on my Kronos.
It's not heavy, nor is it structurail
I just got an SV2 but the sustain function doesn’t seem to work for notes that are being played after the pedal is down, do you know what might be causing this?
How do you compare this to Yamaha cp88? In unable to test either but both interest me greatly as an option for home use.
Thanks for the video! Do you know if each layer can be set to different midi channel? So I can use it like multitimbral
Thank Jeremy honest as usual highly brilliant is the capabilty for subscaling like quarter tone in any of the sv-1 or sv-2? Please
Thanks buddy. You can set the scale tuning via the software editor and save into a preset. Every imaginable scale is possible because you can make your own scales on top of those already available.
Jeremy See i tried with sv-1 but it gives only in Hz small range not quarter tone in cents. What about sv-2
You can’t layer on the fly? How would you compare this to the Yamaha CP88?
Nice review thank you
wooowwww. I want this thanks for the review.
Agree Organ or synth sounds not very useful for stage pianos; musicians have synth & organ boards that have all the whistles & bells.
Thought about the new rk keytar
Besides the complaint I have regarding the panning tremolo going to mono when the single/mono tube amp circuit is used, I don’t like how coarse the increments are on the rotary encoders, They should have also included the CX-3 tonewheel modeling sounds and offered an optional drawbar accessory.
Can you change the master pitch and save it?
How is the bag ? :-)
Rhodes was dope!
Sweet & lush!
Hi. I am waiting to see your review on Korg XE20. I hope it does have best of both B2 & EK50 as expected.
Korg does follow this channel. Let them know in your comments that you would like me to review the XE20.
I don't get it.... 9:40 3 layers, ONE split point (adjustable)... 7:54 72 voices? I mean, this is great, and it's a great instrument, but this costs $2100 and the Korg Nautilus costs $2700 and SMASHES these stats, right? What am I missing?
So the USB connection is only for the editor, not for MIDI?
MIDI also.
@@JeremySee Oh, I see. It DOES do MIDI, but it's not also an Audio Interface. Thank you for clarifying.
So this will work as a controller? To use my computer sounds and just control with this keyboard? I use UAD Luna, with Ravel
that particle board is a big WTF indeed
At this price, it really should be metal.
Can’t believe they want a person to use a laptop or computer to layer sounds on this board?what were they thinking?they more than likely lost a lot of sales for this genius thinking.
Hmmmmm.thanks
Too many combo sounds that dont allow layering of individual pads , etc.
Thank you
Nice
