Great . I don't dare to think of anyone who can make such a perfect low-pitched flute. And you are also an excellent flute artist. Thank you very much for your video .
Great video. I am looking at bass flutes and this may be a winner for me. I want to play the lower notes in popular songs to get the correct range (Mariah Carey, etc) but have not played bass before (and am just delving back into concert flute) so this is a mid-range investment and hopefully brings me the playing range I desire. Thank you for your thorough review. I am SO excited 💛💛
Lovely playing; it's obvious you have years of experience with embouchure control, as these flutes seem to sound pretty 'foofy' in less experienced hands. I'm teetering on the edge of getting one, but have no access to try one where I am. I've played flute for around 40 years, normal silver C flute only. I'm yearning for a bass flute. I notice the Guo bass seems at home in a jazz context, with warm mellow, somewhat airy tone fitting in well. My preference is for deep, sonorous, haunting solos, with some reverb and perhaps delay in the mix. Can the Guo bass accomplish a rich, deep, dark tone? When soloing I find it's especially important to be able to 'paint' with a broad, contrasting range of tone colours. I wonder if you could upload a video of a solo of that kind? Something along the lines of a deep, darker Syrinx-like improvisation?
Hello ! Sorry for the delay ! and thanks a lot for compliments. I've just uploaded a new video with a wellknown soft melody of Gabriel Fauré you could like... please have a look to Sicilienne / Gabriel Faure, by Denis Barbier on GUO bass flute : th-cam.com/video/xg9u1NkYVPM/w-d-xo.html
Merci beaucoup Denis, for this excellent presentation. Also your playing is inspiring! I am considering purchasing this flute, and the reviews I have read are mostly positive. However, some remark that the keys make a “clacky” noise. In your experience, is this a valid issue that distracts from listening to and performing with this instrument?
Hi Marty, I've played on other bass flutes, (someone very wellknown) and I must say that the keys make also some noise. But it doesn't disturb the music. It's not so loud if you don't hit the keys to strongly. And the GUO flute is rather similar to the others. It's not a problem, as soloiste and in a flute ensemble.

Thank you for the informative video! How does the Guo Bass Flute compare with the Guo Grenaditte Bass(tenor)? Does the sound carry enough to play in an orchestra?
Hi, I didn't try the grenadite one. So I can't tell you if it is better or not... I had the opportunity to play in two flute ensemble in concerts, and it was ok with the standard Guo Bass Flute. We played classic and modern music. I hope I answerded to you correctly. Greetings.
@@denisbarbier-flutist6676 Thank you, that is helpful. I am going to test both Guo tenors at the end of the month along with a silver bass and will let you know what I find.
@@denisbarbier-flutist6676 I compared a sliver-plated Pearl 305 bass, a Guo Grenaditte Tenor, and a Guo New Voice Tenor. The Pearl's sound had the most presence up close, the Grenaditte had a bit less presence than the Pearl and the New Voice was just a tiny bit less than the Grenaditte. From a distance they all projected about the same with the New Voice slightly better than the others. The weight of the Pearl and Grenaditte were almost identical and the New Voice felt substantially lighter. I was able to get the best sound on the Grenaditte at first but the New Voice responded the best after I played it a few days (and stopped using too much air). The lighter weight made the New Voice easy to hold and gave it a flexibility I didn't find in the other Basses. The New Voice will carry without any trouble in orchestra. I love this flute! Thank you for your help!
Hi, thank you for your return. I agree with you about Grenadite Guo bass flute that I tried some week ago. And, frankly, I tried the Pearl one and didn't like it. That's a fact. So I'm glad you choose Guo new voice one. Have good music ! Denis.

Qu elle est le prix d une flûte basse Guo ?
Wonderful tone for a bass flute.
Sometimes they sound thin.
Thanks a lot !
