My old hoya had 5 naked 3ft vines for years. I tied all the vines to a straight pole. About two months later the bare vines started getting leaves. I was shocked and happy!🌻
🌸 Counter clock wise and don’t point the vines down…now you’ve made so much sense of the Hoya conundrum in my life, for this, I thank you immensely 🤗
My Hoya is from a cutting from my mom’s that I took over 40 years ago. She collected them and had a crazy variety of them. Mine hangs from the ceiling and is about 7 feet tall. Great video!
very helpful
I learned so much today! I had one hoya - a cutting from a niece - that occupied a 12' ledge in my home for 20 years with occasional repotting, and created a beautiful "jungle" up there. When I moved, I trimmed it way back and put it in a big pot with a domed trellis where it thrived on a covered porch. For my most recent move, I have given away the big plant, taken cuttings again and am starting over. I have no idea what variety I have, but love this plant and I'm anxious to know more about it. Thank you!
All great trellis information! I’m a new Hoya collector and didn’t know to trellis counter clockwise. Thanks for the tips!
🌷 Oops! Thank you so much for the advice on NOT trellising my plants downward. Eek! Counterclockwise. Got it. I've got some re-wrapping to do! Thank you!🌷
What a great day this is...... because I found your channel. Love all your detailed information!
Thank you for such a kind and thoughtful comment! Glad to have you, Cheryl 😊🪴
Very helpful since I am new to hoyas! I know now not to let the vine point down! Thank you!
I've learned so much from you about trellising Hoyas. I have saved your video in my favorites so I can watch again when it is time for me to trellis my Hoyas. Thank you so much for this information. 🙂
😊 many thanks for the useful info
Very helpful, I had no idea that hoyas don't like growing downwards, thank you.
Never knew they will not grow downward. Thank God I found you. Have been growing on hoop. Repotting tomorrow on u trellis. Thank you so much. ❤
I figured they needed to be pointed up because the one I have hanging has stems going upwards so I assumed you would keep it up but I didn’t know it needed to be done counter clockwise. Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I was looking to trellis my hoya, and you gave clear info on how to get the job done.
Thank you so much 🌸🌺🌼
New and surprising to me: counterclockwise growth and shoots die when pointing down. Wow.
🌹🥀🌺🌷 New Sub here. Just getting into hoyas. I have had one mother hoya and her daughter for over 30 years. A carnosa. Daughter happened bringing home the mother plant from vine breakage.Mother plant was already large. I just retrellised both with a double half hoop crossed at the top. Trying winding up from bottom going round and round instead of straight up the trellis leg. I hope this still falls into the growing up postition. All tips are pointing up. I have had success getting more mileage out of my trellises this way. So far so good.
Enjoy the video on Hoyas especially trellising. Very helpful
The segment where u talk about the vine pointed stunted the growth! I caught mines early after watchin this vid. 🌻
I was doing some research as i have just bought my step-daughter a hoya as a birthday gift, and know ill be getting questions.
I learned so much interesting information from your video,I'll probably be taking some cuttings now.
I'll be bingeing your other videos later,Thank You.💐

Great information, exactly what I needed to learn since I am a beginner with an old Hoya. TY!
🌺 Thank you for this very helpful information 🌺
Very informative. 🌸 didnt know that vines pointing down wouldn’t grow. Was needed why I’ve had mine for many years and the poor thing didn’t do anything. Not growing wth, no flowers NOTHING. Now I’m hoyalearning! Thank you!
Thank you!! I will be re-trellising a few hoyas today😵💫 but you taught me a lot!! Thank you🪴❤️
Happy to help! 💚 Thanks for watching ☺️
🌻 Thanks for sharing!
I am glad I saw this video. I have a hoya on a circular trellis and I am/was planning to just keep it going in circles. You are saying that wont wok tho .
Maybe try rewatching because that’s definitely not consistent with what I described 🤷🏻♀️
Sorry for the confusion. I explained it every way I know how, but I’m not a teacher lol
Thank you for all this info! New Hoya owner and about to trellis… so glad I watched this first! 🌺
Great! I've always wondered about the downward headed stems on this type of trellis and I never knew about counter clockwise mounting. Thank you
🌸Thanks! Just what i needed!🪴
🌺 Very helpful information, thank you!🌺
Thank you! Just retrellised mine lol
Great video! I learned so much. I have a tricolor that I’m going to trellis. I have big hopes and a big circle to attach it to 😍
🌻🌼🌺
Thank you!
🏵️ I'm wondering if some of the bigger leafed hoyas, like pachyclada and obavata are also exceptions to needing to be trellised upwards.
They don’t *need* to be, but the thickness of the stems can make them less appealing in hanging basket form. I like to put Hoyas with more thin/pliable vines in hanging baskets bc they don’t get injured it something brushes them. I would worry about new growth getting knocked off moreso with the thick, succulent types like you’ve described. So it’s all personal preference! 💚
Great info! I knew there was a reason I didn't want to trellis my plant downwards but counter clockwise amazing!! TY!
Great info thank you !
If they don’t like to grow down words, how can I fill up the trellis? New to hoyas and genuinely asking ❤
Love your channel
Thank you for sharing this information! 🙌💚🪴
I’m so glad you enjoyed! Wishing you happy hoya trellises 🪴☺️
🌻 I did not know about letting the Hoya grow up! I also learned about not trellising certain Hoyas, one of which I had planned to trellis !
I just found this! Very helpful. I am new to hoya and didn't know a lot of this information. I'm off to trellis my hoya now- I have two and they will be much happier with support!
Have you had flat mites on your Hoyas?
🌹I love listening to your voice.
What a sweet compliment, thank you!! 🥰
Very informative video thank you🌹🌷🌺🪷🌼
🌻🥀Very helpful Alot of my questions were answered. Now I probably need to redo a few!
Great tips! I had no idea about the counterclockwise! 🌺
Thank you! 💚 I’m glad this was helpful
Oh wow!! This is awesome! I had no idea that they needed to be wrapped, let alone wrapping counterclockwise! I also didn’t know that they shouldn’t end pointing downwards!
Thank you so much for this information and thank you for sharing!! 💜🥰💚🪴 🌸
You’re so welcome, Sharon! I’m glad this was helpful 😊💚 I keep finding Hoyas that I need to re-trellis now that I know all of this 😆
How does it work if a Hoya is hanging. The tendrils would be facing down. Does that mean the growth will die off?
Thanks for this video. Great information!🪴🌿
Happy to help! 😊 thanks for watching!! 🌱
I recently bought a latifolia. It seems to be acclimated to my house now and is putting out new growth. Should I trellis it now while it's a baby or would that stress it out because it's in a new environment?
🌻great info on trellises !!
Thank you! I’m happy you enjoyed 💚
These are great tips! I have ONE Hoya that I am trying to trellace. I love yr collection & want to get more. Thanks for the video. 🌼🌺🙌
I just checked on my Hoya, it's on my back patio. I made a trellace out of used chopsticks! lol. It's climbed & exceeded the trellace. It grew up through a wire mesh plant shelf & has a bud. I can't pull it back through the mesh, it's too small. I am going to cut/pull the wire mesh so I can save this limb. lol.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you found it helpful 💗🌱
@@lyounginer5090 haha Hoya rescue mission!! 🪴
@@dreamsofhoya No doubt, I don't want to harm the plant. It's doing so well. 🤩
🌹Such good tips that will give me confidence. Thank you for showing us the ropes! My bamboo hoops just arrived and I’m ready to give them a try. I was able to trellis the Krinkle 8 on a sturdy 💪 metal trellis and it’s working on 2 new leaves.
Yesss!! So happy for you! Spreading some confidence on this subject was exactly my goal 🥰 Thanks for watching! 💚
Where you get the whoop please
Great tips! Can this be achieved with copper wiring?
I've actually been advised against using copper with plants! Apparently it's antimicrobial properties can inhibit healthy bacteria in the soil and eventually damage or kill the plant. I used to sell propagations to a nursery in my area and they clued me in, the research I later did confirmed those suspicions. Basically, I'd advise using something besides copper. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps!
Great very informative video! I think i might have been trellising wrongly for years. I just clipped them parallel to the bamboostick, with no wrapping... 😅
For Hoyas that do fine without trellises I can also add wayetii, kentiana and serpens (although that one will grow a lot faster on a trellis in my experience).
I’m glad you found it helpful 😊 Thanks for adding to the list of Hoyas happy to dangle! 🪴

New subscriber here! I love informative content! But now I am wondering about my circle trellises 🤔 are they detrimental to the growth because they essentially direct the plant up and down repeatedly? 🤦♀️😬
I don't think so, we just have to be strategic! Unless we zig-zag our plants, they will eventually need to loop around even a hoop trellis. I try to direct the growth upward and off the trellis until the growth has reached an appropriate length. Using command hooks, etc until it's long enough that the growing end will be able to point upward when re-attached to the trellis. I tried to explain this in the video but maybe this separate explanation will help? I hope it's not too confusing.

What about Hoya Australis Lisa? Do they need to be on trellis, can they?
I wouldn’t say they need it necessarily, but it will likely encourage more growth than allowing it to trail.
Most Hoyas are epiphytic and climb up trees in nature, so the closer we get them to their ideal conditions, the more impressive they can grow! 🌱 I hope this helps 😊
🌻So useful to know about not pointing growth downward, thank you!
You’re so welcome! Thanks for watching 💗🪴
I didn't know this either!!!! Great tip.
💚💚💚
Hey 🌻🌸 I’ve watched those Unsolicited videos an it makes sense about not letting them hang down for certain ones, but I have too say I have two Hoyas wrapped clock wise an they going nuts. So I if this counter clock wise is tried an true? I think, facing the one you just did is clock wise. Idk it’s confusing 🤪💚
Will a Hoya still grow if it’s trellised clockwise? Absolutely! But I have had several vines die back as well. That’s why I didn’t frame it the same way as downward-directed new growth 😊
The one I filmed is indeed counterclockwise 😉
@@dreamsofhoya Maybe we are meaning two different things. I’m about half dyslexic, but looking at it, running the vine up the left side, an across the top too the right, to me that’s clock wise. I have to try an flip the video so it from Stan point. Idk. I’m 🤪
No, watch again...thinking clockwise is from her left to right.
@@sherryporsch9349 lol! Swirling to the right, yr right is clockwise. My Hoya on my back patio is growing counter clockwise so I believe there is truth to this.

Counter clockwise?!?! Sense of GRAVITY?!?! Who'd have thought!!!!
🌻🌼🌸🌺
🌹🌸🍄
How do you know which way is clockwise vs counterclockwise? When you were wrapping it counterclockwise to us watching you it was actually clockwise. So depending on which way you look at it it could be either way.🥺🍀🪴🌿🌱
Actually, counterclockwise can only appear clockwise if it’s flipped upside down or seen in a mirror.
Example: If you were standing behind a transparent clock, it would appear to be rotating counterclockwise. However looking at a wall clock from various angles throughout a room does not change the direction in which the hands move.
I also show you with my hands which way is which! 🙃
Hi
👍 🥀🌿🪴
🪷
It looks you are doing it clockwise. I’m confused.
I have already seen their video, so nothing new I'm out
