  • Lots to unpack this week! First, I attempted to bonsai my red mangrove tree, I used this $15 Bonsai kit from Amazon (amzn.to/2Ebzm5e); next I bought some Brightwell Bio Cube (amzn.to/3asEhe5) and Brightwell Bio Brick (amzn.to/2Y9NAdY) for my tanks, hoping to boost surface area for the bacteria to help combat clouding. Finally, I bought some 3D printed nem guards for my MP40s & MP10, so far they have been working well. Hope you guys enjoy this long video!

    You should look into how to stimulate aerial roots in the mangrove “bonsai”. It would take time, but it could look really cool with a bunch of aerial roots dipping back into the tank and essentially making “secondary trunks”. Also, like others said, the light will be the limiting factor as it will want to grow towards the light. Maybe consider a strip light rather than a pendant light

    I"ve been working on a macroalgae tank too!! Have you needed to dose nitrates yet? Or needed to control the phosphates? That's been a huge issue of mine.

      I have been dosing CheatoGro from Brightwell 👍

    • @Yaj8552
      @Yaj8552 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InappropriateReefer Bought that last month thanks to you! :)
      But no issues with your macro-nutrients? Nitrates and phosphates? Either I don't feed (my corals) enough and my nitrates tank or too much and phosphate goes crazy. But I have minimal corals and no fish so maybe I need that complete environment.

    A bit long for me but I did enjoy the deep dive into the macro tank. If I were you I would look into breeding rainbowfish. It's easier than you think and they actually spawn every day but your cleanup crew and other adults are eating the eggs. Pipefish.... always pick pipefish

    I recently purchased some mangrove seeds. I stuck them in a tank and they have started to grow roots. Yea!!! Lol the problem im having is that they are not attached to anything. They aren't floating i have them stick between the glass and some barnacle shells. What can I buy to help keep these guys stable in the water? 2. Is there a cheap light I can buy? The mangroves have been living of off natural sunlight and the ceiling light. 🤦‍♀️

    @scottiej1294 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am fairly certain if you were to bend it and break it just slightly it would actually grow a bulge over the broken part and be stronger than before - this tactic is used to strengthen stems for plants that need strong stems for high yields and heavy weights 😉

    Gr8 video as usual , I had a red mandarin , in a similar tank with a breeding pair of gold band maroon clowns , my favourite 3 fish in the same tank , littered with Florida ricordia, looked amazing under blues, I was on the phone one evening working on the sump of the main tank , which was linked up to the clown tank , and was watching them chilling , all of a sudden with nothing near it , from the bottom of the tank the mandarin flew up n out of the tank , luckily I was there to save it , but it’s something I believe is common with these fish so maybe put a net over the mangrove tank if u do get one , but not sure wether pipe fish are jumpers

    Why don’t you just use the Radion to light the whole tank like how Julian did with the hydra on his bonsai tank? You could also just sell the single xr30 and buy 2 xr15

    I havent watch you other updates yet, but i have a question: when the mangrove will grow big or the roots will spread like wild , will the aquarium glass hold it oder will the tree break it after a time or will it grow to heavy for the aquarium?
