Say what you want about Chibnall, but the fact that he gave us one last return of Ian Chesterton before Russell's passing is something I will forever be grateful for.
@@timrob12 I agree that it's a matter of opinion, and I also agree in that personally, I hugely enjoyed Chibnall Who. Flux was my favourite season since the 70s. But I don't agree people should "say what they want about him". People have said some truly awful things about him and I feel truly sorry for the man.
@@fredh1720 Yes, true. People have been seriously overreacting. Like, yes, I can see faults with that era (like too many things at once happening), but it's nowhere as bad as people make it out to be. Certainly the fact that people say "it killed the show" is just utter nonsense.
RIP William Russell you will be forever remembered, and Ian was and always will be an awesome companion and you did well in everything you appeared in on television and in film.
He aged so gracefully. I've been watching a lot of First Doctor DW over the past year, Ian has become a staunch favorite companion for me. Godspeed, Mr. Russell.
Aww bless him, I'm glad he was able to have a cameo in power of the Doctor, and a guiness world record for it, he'll be missed by doctor who fans, both young and old, young fans can go back and watch his old episodes at least
I love his opinions and taste on dr who too love the noticing of the master saying Hartnell was the best and young people still watch their episodes and that its still going
This is a really rough loss. Russ was such an integral part of Doctor Who and he and Ian leave behind a massive legacy. It’s been wonderful going so many years knowing that one of the all-time greats was still with us. He’s very very missed, but I’m glad for his sake that he can rest now and reunite with family and loved ones. I’d like to think that Bill, Jackie, and Verity have thrown a little party of sorts.
How I agree. No one goes on forever and, being in his nineties we were aware we could lose him anytime now but, knowing he was still here was indeed, very comforting. Probably because he was a link to the past and to the very beginning of Doctor Who. Yes, he will be missed, not just for his connection to Dr. Who but also because he always came across as a decent and very likable gentleman in all the interviews he gave.
He was actually the first hero in Doctor Who with the Doctor himself more of an anti hero. Let's not forget that Ian prevented the Doctor from harming a primitive human in one of the very earliest episodes. Of course, the moral fortitude he and Barbara showed throughout their adventures with the original Doctor, eventually changed him for the better. That's why the characters of Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright are so important. R.I.P. William Russell.
I remember watching the first episode of Dr Who in 1963 it was amazing all the kids were talking about it! back then it was a not to be missed program, I'd like to say thank you to all the wonderful actors and actresses that came and went since.
I am glad the doctor came back for his old friend and took him away in the tardis to a planet were he will now age backwards, as a thank you to his old friend.
Rest in peace William Russell just sadly make to your 100th Birthday but when your Birthday come we'll talk a glass and celebrate your birthday. We will miss you but a living legend you will live for ever through thanks to Doctor Who RIP.
It's so sad that we lost another from the beginning of Doctor Who, by that round of applause it's without doubt of how loved him and the character of Ian was. Forever grateful that he returned to the show briefly in 2022 (and earned himself a Guinness World Record in the process!). R.I.P. William Russell.
The host at the start was asking him questions like some memory test. "Who did you play!" he bellowed at the start. I'm surprised he didn't ask William to name the Prime Minister and count the alphabet backwards!
Hopefully he'll be in Heaven with the other people that he worked with, plus those that he didn't sitting back watching ALL of the old episodes including the missing ones (after all God is fully capable of remaking them atom by atom like He does everything else up there) with a pint of beer in a pub. Just remember to save some chips for me, I hear that they are better than the ones that we have to make do with down here... God bless you😊❤
I'm going to watch 'The Rescue' 'The Romans' and 'The Web Planet' as both a tribute and to see the lovely Maureen O'brien as Vicki, to cheer myself up. Hence I like to call those 3 stories the 'Vicki Begins her exciting adventure in Space and Time Trilogy'. But first I must do some chores before I set off to the planet Dido in order to save a stranded young lady....
Actually I've changed my mind and I am going to listen to his reading of 'Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks' instead as I feel that it would be a better tribute because whenever I listen to it I feel as though I'm in the same room with an aged (maybe dying) Ian at my side talking to me about his adventures with 'Dr Who' and 'Susan English' along with Barbara Wright when he was a young man in the Spaceship 'Tardis' going on adventures far beyond his native Earth.
I read that they had to feed him his line for the Power of the Doctor, but he seems so mentally sharp here. This interview is from after that special came out right?
Had been thinking the same thing, it was mentioned on their website but no mention at all on the broadcast news. I wondered whether it might have been due to the news being dominated by coverage of D-Day's 80th anniversary, but even so, they still felt that "Gail Platt" leaving Coronation Street was more important news to report.
Just got to take out Susan now and they can start remaking the lost episodes in heaven... just kidding of course. He's a legend and I'm sad that he's gone. A pity he didn't make the big 100 but what a legacy.
Say what you want about Chibnall, but the fact that he gave us one last return of Ian Chesterton before Russell's passing is something I will forever be grateful for.
His return doesn't make Chinballs' overall creative misfire any less terrible
@@monkeyzorr3090 It's a matter of opinion. I had fun with his run, but if you don't like it, fine.

Power of the doctor was great imo esp all the classic drs and companions
I'm happy he was able to come back for The Power of the Doctor. I know it meant a lot for the fans; hopefully it meant a lot for him too.
That man was well loved for his time on Doctor Who he will be missed, without his contribute to the show it would have not be a success.
True
My goodness for 99 he was very sprightly. I shall miss him.
This footage is from 2018, when he was 93. Still sprightly, though.

The Doctor: Well, my dear boy, I must say I think you’ve earned a good knight’s sleep.❤🩹
that was so lovely that he still stands by his doctor as his favorite
Rest in Peace William Russell. It was a thrill to see him in Power of the Doctor. He will always be remembered as Ian in 1960s Doctor Who.
We’ll all miss him so much.

Rest in piece William. A true gentleman and a brilliant actor.
Pamela Salem also died this year. She was 80 years old. She played several characters in Doctor who.
What a great companion and to be apart of something extremely special what a lovely chap still sharp as a tack rip willy🙏🕯️ cheers Stephen 🌌🪐
Legend. Rest in peace. you gave pleasure to so many fans of the show.
Incredibly moving scenes with Barbara Knox as Ted Sullivan in Corrie too.
The Doctor has lost another friend. RIP William Russell.
I was wondering which story to watch in tribute to him this weekend, and couldn't decide. Now I know - The Aztecs.
RIP great fella 😢
Aww bless knew it was coming but still a sad day only just seen this
It feels like his loss has hit harder than most of us thought it would.

I think it's a real shame that he never wrote his autobiography. I think that would have been very interesting.
Maybe his family could help put something together
