Lycoming vs Franklin Sound off

  • Compare the sounds of the legendary Lycoming O-360-A4M 4-cylinder 180 hp vs Franklin 6A4-165-B3 6- cylinder 165 hp. Listen for yourself. IMHO, the Franklin is less fatiguing although less power. Yes, we fly with ANR headsets but it's still noise heard and felt thru the airplane. Airplanes were the 1974 Beech Sundowner and 1949 Stinson 108-3.

    Both sound good. I'm guessing the Lyc is 4 cyl. The six will always sound and feel smoother.

      And just imagine that sound if just cylinder goes down?

      And I’ve flown plenty of Continental 6-cyl, and they don’t sound this good.
