And we appreciate you very much Kathleen and get excited when we see your name come up also 😉 I like your use of OK! I feel that it like a way of verbally checking off things you would like to say and/or come by when creating the video. It wouldn't be you if I didn't hear it - I particularly like when you say "yeah...I like that!" - it brings a smile to my face 😃 Thank you for the wonderful ideas with book pages - i had already started collecting those types of pages but haven't used them in the way you have as yet with being it's own journalling card and with collaging - so I will definitely get onto that!
Thank you so much….I have discovered some of this on my own but you had several unique ideas that I may never have thought about. Thank you again for sharing yourself in this video.
Kathleen, I have learned so much from you and look forward to your videos! I loved the ex libris pocket and all of your other ideas. Funny thing, I leave in 30 minutes to go to my library for their Book Sale. Haha ❤
Oh Kathleen, every time a watch a video, I learn so much from you. I just purchased my first old Readers Digest Book and had no idea how to even begin.. Thank you because I needed this lesson today and you have inspired me to begin the process. ❤
Thanks for sharing, Kathleen! I've been drooling over your vintage Reader's Digests since I started watching your videos. I found 4 ( published in 1958) at my local thrift store this past week - for 75 cents each! I thought I won the lottery! One of the books was in its case along with the purchaser's invoice.
Great video! We think alike when it comes to using old books! I did like the way you used the final chapter pages! Such fun! I have to be better at harvesting my pages as soon as I get a “new” book! Thanks again, Kathleen. Looking forward to the next video. 😃❤️
I love your ideas, Kathleen. Those two books you bought on your antiquing tour are terrific. One thing I love to find in old books are names of the previous owner--handwriting is so personal and special. Also, it's fun to find a clipping, a bookmark or other item left behind in a book. I have to tell you that your previous video about aging/altering portraits and illustrations from old books opened my eyes to a book I found this week at a resale store. It's a 1938 copy of a book about the New York Oil Company. I paid 50 cents for it! I haven't really sat down yet to look through it thoroughly, but the end papers/flyleaf pages have a wonderful, illustrated map at the front and back of the book. I would have paid the whole price just for those pages alone, but it also has many portraits and illustrations that are going to be so fun to work with. So, thank you for widening my view of things to use. I love clipping out those phrases from book pages, too. You're right about the writing of previous times being so much richer. I think it's true of old letters, too. Even as recently as the 1950s, people's letters were so colorful and interesting that it transports me back to that time with them. I wish that way of writing didn't seem to be fading away. I want to see handwriting as well as descriptive writing make a comeback. And here is me, going on and on. ha ha Thanks for "listening" to my rambling. Loved this video as usual.
Hi Kathleen! Newbie here. My mom passed in March. I haven't been able to go through her things yet, But I remember reading those Reader's Digest books when I was a teen. She must have at least 30 of them. I am now excited to be able to give them new meaning by learning your techniques. Thank you so much!!
@@yvettefields8987 oh welcome Yvette! I’m sorry you’ve lost your mom - that’s so hard, even when we are prepared for it. I’m glad you have crafting to distract you! Have fun with the RD books!
Thank you Kathleen, for such an interesting & informative video! I knew about some ideas from watching Rachel (Roxy Creations), but some are also new to me! I’ve been a bit more scattered in how I’ve used book pages, so I like your more focused approach! I’ve heard many people say, “save the binding pieces, they’re good to use” but I’ve never seen how to actually use them!! Another mystery solved! I also like to stamp words & phrases on blank pages & the blank space around the page, they’re especially pretty when the paper is older & yellowed! So much to ponder! Your current journal is so pretty, I’ll enjoy seeing a flip-through whenever you have it finished! Have a great rest of the weekend! Erica❤ Congrats on your new subbies!❤
I just love your style and creativity! I made my first two journals earlier this year with a lot of your inspiration and I'm hoping to finish a couple more this winter.
I can't tell you how many times I've cut into the book cover when removing the book block. It's so frustrating! I've been using scissors, though. I have an exacto knife, so I'm going to give that a try and I'll point it toward the book block when I cut. We'll see if I get any better, lol. Lots of pretty ideas in this video. Dyed tea bags is a new one for me.
I love old illustrations - especially of old landscapes and farms
Me too - I grew up on a farm and I think it’s why I love vintage things so much. Thanks for coming by this morning.
