I love Anda and Jochum as much as the next guy, even when the next guy is the esteemed Mark Ainley, but to me this performance seems ragged and uninvolved. For great Brahms from Anda try the B flat concerto with Fricsay; for Jochum the mono DG symphonies; and for an almost chamber version of the D minor (what? trust me, it’s superb) the forgotten - except by Allan Evans - Alfred Hoehn with Max Fiedler in 1936.
Superb performance!!!
Not JÖchum.
