Thank you for the video! I love power pulls, though mine are still far from perfect. Going to try those of the exercises I haven't tried before. For other power pulls lovers, you can also try power pulls with larger semicircles. They are more difficult (at least for me) because I have to apply more strength, and I rarely can do more than 4 before I lose speed. And power pulls eights (with full circles instead of semicircles) are a real fun. Actually, I have only manages to do a decent eight twice in three months. 🤣
My shins get very sore when I do two-foot slaloms as a way to get ready for power pulls. One skater told me the cause might be my toes curling up. I tried to relax my toes, but the shin soreness remain. When I use a foam roller (which is not hard, just firm) on a yoga mat to roll out the muscle tightness in my shins, it's quite painful. Any suggestions?
Shin soreness during slaloms is often from overusing the tibialis anterior. I hope something would help from this list: 1. Technique: Bend ankles and knees, engage your core. 2. Warm-Up: Do ankle circles, toe taps, and calf stretches. 3. Strengthen: Use resistance bands or do toe lifts. 4. Foam Roll: Focus on calves and sides of the leg, not directly on the shin. 5. Recover: Rest, ice, and consult a coach if needed.
I don't know what I do wrong with these. Maybe I'm not pushing hard enough but I usually fall when I press too hard. I'm never able to get that roar sound that shows you're using deep edges.
Actually since she's so light weight she doesn't burn as many. Say she's like 60 lbs (estimating she is about 9 years old). The MET value for ice dancing is like 14. So say she does 15 min of this or 0.25 hour, it's about 95-100 calories. Now me as a 185 lb male, I'd burn 294-300 calories for the same exercise and time. Unfortunately there is only one MET value to choose for this and I'd like to see better research go into calculation of different exercises within figure skating, such as jumps, spins, edges, power pulls. But it's probably close since ice dancers do intense edge work like this. (I have a masters in exercise physiology and work as a dietitian).
Thank you ❤. Very good and useful exercises!

Those exercises you mentioned are very good too, and I use them on my lessons as well.

I would need to see your power pulls to be able to help you.
oh my goodness, will she be sore the next day? I just burned like 10,000 calories watching this xD
