    New to FPs. I absolutely love my Lamy Safari fountain pen. There's something about that German engineering. Just like German cars, the FPs are high quality products.

    Very nice Review. I had tried both pens with Medium nibs. My experience is that the Studio has an extra bit of pleasure in writing, meaning it is nearly butter smooth. The Safari is a bit on rougher side in comparison with the studio, although Safari also writes smooth. The zero resistance or gliding feel is better in Studio. Probably this is due to the manual inspection of nibs in Studio pens at the factory. For Safari, inspection is done by a robotic system. That edge in the comfort feeling with the Studio pen is probably due to the Human touch on it. Thanks 🙏

      Thanks! You could be right, but I just got a new Lamy Safari with a medium nib, and it's wonderful--one of the smoothest nibs I own.

      I bought all 4 of the Lx version, like them so much. I also own the studio medium nib in black.
      With the Lx, 2 are super smooth nibs and two are a lot rougher. So quality control is definitely an issue in my opinion.

    Been using a Studio for a while now and its not my go-to pen. Not bad or anything, just not great either. Feels like the nib is "heavy" on paper, doesn't glide as smoothly as many of my other pens. Having said that, good quality pen and every now and then I have some fun with it.

    Thank you for mentioning the grip on the safari, I didn't think about that too much until you mentioned it. Infant to get back into fountain pens and looking forward to using a lamy

      Cool! Yeah, the funny thing is I don't mind the grip on the Lamy Safari as much as I used to. I've learned how to make it work for me. Now the Lamy Safari is one of my favorite fountain pens.

      @Down the Breather Hole I look forward to using fountain pens again, I had a somewhat crappy experience a few years ago but I never really took it seriously back then since the fountain pen I used at the time was just a gift. I want to experiment with the stub variation and see how it goes. Wish me luck, my lamy I ordered is coming in today in the mail!

    Lamyz are addictive , i just used broad nib safari in 2018 with Sheaffer blue black ink and then I went on buying lamys safaris, logo , al stars and studio .
    Their nib and flow is so perfect even darkest shade ink will appear perfectly on paper .

      Yeah, Lamy pens are addictive! I have a lot of good pens from various brands, but my Lamys, especially the Safaris, have really captured my interest. It's the only pen I collect.

    I debated last December whether to get a studio or al star. I ended up getting the al star and don't regret it. It's a great pen. I couldn't see any reason to spend more on a studio although I'm sure it's a quality pen.

    Hi, new sub here. Thanks for the video! My Safari came in today and I love it! Mine is charcoal black with a fine nib. The fine is a little too thick for me, so I ordered a 2024 special edition Safari in violet/blackberry with an extra fine nib a while ago.
    But the fine nib on my Safari does write really smooth. I also got a bottle of Diamine Inkvent Blue Edition Sheen Polar Glow with it. It has a really cool looking glass bottle too.
    My cap snaps on pretty good but I would not carry it in my pants or shorts...
    This is my first fountain pen in decades. The two that I tried back then both leaked on me. One of them ruining one of my favorite Oxford shirts. I decided to give them another shot and bought the Lamy Safari.
    If I had a Lamy Studio and didn't like the polished section, I would just get some emery cloth and rough it up a bit. But I love the section finger grooves on the Safari! I don't have to worry about the position of the nib while I'm writing. Now, that might change after I gain more experience writing with my new fountain pens.
    I'm thinking about going for a Pilot Heritage 912 next. If this cheap nib writes so well, I can't wait to see how well a 14K gold nib writes!

    Thanks for your review. I ordered a terracotta studio last night and saw both of your videos just to make me feel better about my purchase 🤣🤣🤣, because I told myself I would not buy anymore pens this month.
    Mine was on sale fore $40 and I agree with you. I have a few jin hao pens with the lamy nibs and they write great. One of the pens is $2 and it's smooth and never skips. It's not the nib you buy when you buy a lamy, buy how the pen makes you feel as you hold it or when someone compliments you on your pen.
    But i bought my studio for the looks.
    I'm only a month old into this hobby and for me, all the pens write well.
    From parker, to pilot, jinhao, hondian or hand made pens from etsy, they all write well.
    To me it's like my children. They are all special and unique with a hint of quirkiness. But they are definitely worth keeping around.😆
    Just my humble opinion.
    Be blessed and and thank you for your reviews.
    Oh! and I think you do your viewers justice when you compare pens using the same ink.
    So many reviewers use different inks when comparing two or three pens on their writing samples.
    They don't respect the viewers intelligence, because even I, a newbie know that inks vary the way a pen lays down inks.
    Again, thank you for taking the time to teach us something,
    ✌️🦁

    Having put several types of ink through my Vista, I find that the type of ink has an impact on the line thickness. I noticed that Lamy brand ink leaves a thinner line than the Montblanc ink I've used in it, with the Parker Quink I've used in it sitting somewhere inbetween. All three inks I tested using the F nib.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Different fountain pen inks make pens write differently. I think that might be especially true of my Lamy Vista. It's a fairly dry writer, so if you're using a dry ink, you notice. But oddly enough, my three Lamy Safaris are fairly wet writers, regardless of nib size.

  • @paulll47
    @paulll47 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Personally, I think that the best product you can get from Lamy is the Al Star since it's just a Safari with a more durable body, that is literally all you can ask in a daily budget pen, I really can't justify getting any of their high end or even middle end models due to their nibs.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, that makes sense. The Lamy Al-star is a great choice, and it has the same functionality as the higher-end steel-nib pens.

    I paid an extra 15 dollars to exchange a Nahvular (with a cracked cap) with a Lamy Studio. I love the sleekness of it. The Safari is not my style. I’m not a huge fan of either clip. The Studio clip looks better, but it turns sideways in a pocket-at least it does in mine.. Aside from that, though, the cap is secure, it’s not going to crack like the Nahvalur did, and it writes like a dream.

    I own Safaris and I own a Studio. The Safari has a better clip. If the Studio had a nice spring loaded clip like an Aion or Scala it would be the perfect pen. The pen itself looks amazing and feels perfect in the hand. The clip is horribly ugly though. I use one of my Scalas over my Studio. The Scala looks and writes and feels great and has a very nice spring loaded clip.

  • @AndreasPinkert
    @AndreasPinkert 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Yes. It is a school pen. Typically after learning how to write in elementary school with a LAMY abc, german kids get a Lamy Safari that stays with them for their entire educational career. The Safari is made to be chewed on, scratched out of sheer frustration, thrown on hard surfaces and abused in any conceivable way teenagers might come up with. This thing is a tank.
    Obviously there are also Pelikan kids, and there is a rivalry like Samsung / Apple. But I guess 2/3rd of germans have owned a Safari in their school time. The versatility with the cheap nibs, and cheap bodies makes it an obvious choice for students who want to use different colours for their own/personal writing than the dull blue and black that is allowed in school. The colours make it also a fashion statement. So I guess not so few kids will even have several Safaris. Mine is over 30 years old. It has the markings of a black metal lifestyle but it is alive and kicking. I have misplaced my old converter and had to buy a new one recently but I was not aware of the notch issue. My old Safari does not have them. So the notches now pointlessly obstruct the ink window.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Interesting! Try the Lamy z26 converter. It's used in the Studio, Aion, and other higher-range Lamy pens. It doesn't have the notches. I got one to put in my Vista, because it matches better. Because it doesn't have notches, it doesn't fit as securely, but it still works okay. Over time, it got a little loose on me, but it's still worth a try.
