There was a writer for Star Wars books by the name of Karen Traviss who was formerly a defense correspondent. She also was a British Army reservist. She gets along well with Star Wars fans reportedly, which might not make her a good candidate in the eyes of the people in charge of Lucasfilm.

It comes down to corporate greed and politics. Big Bobby Iger getting that sweet blackrock money in his back pocket while he says things like "We are not going to push agendas in our projects anymore" but then the next handful of films and shows are things like the Acolyte. Its disgusting.
If we even step back and ignore the agenda pushing... the writing is terrible, the acting is bad, the production design is horrendous and there is no redeeming qualities of this show. Its a damn shame.
