God isn't dumb, and can see our true motives for believing in a certain way. He can see when we believe in a certain fear-based way, because we are afraid to believe differently. If we truly want to love another, we need to let go of the concept that we better or else. There is no way that we can truly love another, if we feel forced to do so. At some level we will end up resenting this other. Fortunately, what God has to offer is so wonderful, there is no need to be feared into being interested in what he has to offer. We can love him with freedom and joy. Another key point: worship and love are not the same thing. Only a narcissistic being would desire to be worshiped. If we worship a being with the hope of preventing hell and being rewarded with heaven, who do we fool but ourselves? We don't fool God. If you want to love him in a way that is sincere, find a way to drop the fear element that is preached by some people.
