      @@LowEndLobster I know you said you wouldn't use the overdrive channel, but it really sounds great and you might draw a larger audience if you just used it once per demo. That way, people who play heavier styles can know how the bass sounds in that kind of setting. Basses can sound good with overdrive, or not!
      Just a suggestion though, I love your content!

    Very nice change! More articulate, deeper lows, plus the lack of compression sounds cleaner, it's not just compression on the Orange it's the way it compresses, Huge improvement! Thank you!

    I love them both. The Ampeg for sure sounds like an Ampeg. So you cannot go wrong with the change. I will say the Orange is more transparent than the Ampeg.

      It's a 12 inch driver on the Orange, and a 10inch on the Ampeg! This would explain for the thinner sound.

    Will have to come back to this video on headphones. On my phone the new amp sounds like it has less low end than the Orange. I know phones aren’t good speaker platforms but lots of people watch videos on their phones nonetheless. If the Ampeg has more lows, it may be lacking some low mids that come through smaller speakers. I definitely understand the desire to eliminate the built-in compression. I would suggest playing some test tones through the amp and analyzing the signal through a spectrum analyzer so you can get an idea of the amps EQ curves and dial in your reference tone. Anyway, keep on being awesome.

    The Rockets are a nice competitor for the Fender Rumbles. I compared both and ended up going with a Rumble because feature-wise, they were very similar, but you were paying a 10%+ fee for the Ampeg name. Regardless, definitely a solid upgrade from the Orange.

    • @pwhite102
      @pwhite102 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@revolverocelot7099 that's a tough call. The ampeg does a great job getting a sound similar to a big ass ampeg rig, but the fender can also get a lot of what I like out ampegs, and I like the 4 band EQ. It let's me get more than JUST the ampeg tone (which I characterize as pretty aggressive).
      I just tried a peavey max 150 and will be returning it because it's too clean and doesn't add that nice "amp" sound. More like a clean DI sound. Where as I liked both the rumble and rocket bass but would probably go with the rumble. It was actually fun to play through which I think is more important than nailing a singular "sound".
      Definitely try both if you haven't.

    Dudester. You are becoming an industry leader. A TH-cam Titan, baby. So inspiring. So professional. I am a rock jammer in LA. Guitar, bass, vx . In 1994 I joined a (GMA Agency) signed cover band and played 20 cities. Joined a Seattle blues trio on bass and played Alaska for 6 months. They had a SVT! I brought in my awesome '77 Ibanez Eagle bass. Ooooh! Such huge tone! Came back to LA. Fast forward to 20013 a NAMM show buddy took me to huge L.A. jam nights. Played 'em hard (3 nights a week) 'til 2019. Yep. Wow. Then blam! Covid. ugggggh. Decimated. Now L.A. jam nights are slowly coming back. All new people. I'm going back. Wish me luck.

Can you review the new Ibanez Eagle bass reissue? The Commadores dude played it to ecstatic new funk heights back in the 70's. I miss that bass. HUGE fat smooth tone. Cheers, baby.

    I bought an RB110 for home practice and recording, and I have to say it's the nicest "bedroom tone" amp I've ever heard. I'm looking at trying out the RB210 with my band. I just wish the XLR out wasn't post master volume.

    • @LowEndLobster
      @LowEndLobster  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nice! 100% agreed on the XLR. The nice thing about the orange was that you had the speaker volume and gain separated. I could run the speaker as loud or as quiet as I want and the line out wouldn't be impacted. I found a nice setting with the ampeg for my recordings though. Volume at 11 o clock and EQ at noon.

    • @nichreynolds7712
      @nichreynolds7712 ปีที่แล้ว

      It makes more sense to be post master. If it wasn't, the tone of the di signal wouldn't match through tone of the Amp. To do this pre master it would be a very expensive option.

    Great playing / lines. Sorry to be negative but I feel in this demo that the Orange is much more open and lively sounding. The Ampeg sounds a tad wooly and muted to me….in every case with every different bass you used. The Ampeg sounds like it would be great for reggae with that low end bias. I’m not so sure it will be as good for general bass demo’s. I’m assuming that you are using the DI / Line out so it won’t be EQ’able.

      Scarlett and Clarett entry level models are BS… they are scam intended at newbies, no offense.
      I mean… just have a look at reviews all over the net.
      Any other brand will offer a better product at that price point (Steinberg, Tascam, Audient, etc.).
      I went for Steinberg because I wanted USB C interface and Cubase.

    • @Gerry926
      @Gerry926 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nono Robo that's the thing about reviews. Every brand seems to have strong and weak points. I'm definitely a newbie at real recording. I just record my personal bass practice with audio and video and an occasional cover. If I was into production, I know I would need more. Fortunately, it's just me and a Beatbuddy. I'll look into the brands that you mentioned, since I'm always open to trying new gear.

    I've just bought one of these to go alongside my Jackson Concert Bass. I'd have liked to hear some of the SGT grit/distortion demonstrated, but so far I've felt it's a good upgrade from the Fender Rumble 25 I had before this. I first picked up the bass back in 2001, then stopped about eight years ago and restarted early this year with the Rumble 25. I do enjoy my hard rock and metal but I think the Jackson and this Ampeg are far more versatile than some people claim. I've only had it a few days to be fair, but I'm happy so far.
    Absolutely loving the Temple of Time audio sample and the use of Saria's Song as a bassline in this video, buddy! I'll have to give that a go myself.

    Can't help but think though that the Orange might be more of an advantage for someone who hasn't quite mastered their dynamics of touch.

    Lobster, the Ampeg sounds more alive and a bit more clarity , and depth. Good choice and it looks like you got a new sweatshirt. Maybe it could be your Maine outfit on the show.

    Love the setup and the different bass lines! I'm happy for you bro and looking forward to more reviews. I'm going to be looking to do some covers in the near future. I will keep this setup in mine.

    The Ampeg's cleaner which is probably what you're going for but the Orange does possess a cool certain vibe.

    Honestly i think i prefer the Orange tone more, cant say why particularly, maybe just overall more even and “equal” sounding…could be the compression, sorry if im not articulate enough. On the other hand, ive owned a rocket100 bass amp since i was 15 yrs old (im 40 now), and that thing is still tickin AND KICKIN! I run multiple pedals including and eq and compressor through it for my own taste, but man that thing gets LOUD! Very curious to see the upcoming and maybe revisited basses through it.
    Congrats on the 3 yr anniversary! And thank you for making awesome vids Lobster! Hope to see many more! ✌️

    The orange had a little dirt on it. I never play clean but in demos I prefer what the ampeg is bringing to the table. I bet the ampeg could get dangerously close to the orange sound. Great upgrade imo.

    I gotta be honest here, I just had the ampeg rocket 50 delivered today but after listening to this video i thought the Orange sounded better!

    Some time ago a friend of mine's girlfriend asked me for help to get a new small combo for him as a gift, since his older one was broken. We went around some music shops to try some, in the end we bought the RB-110 since it was much better sounding than the other options, especially the Orange one, which sounded very "empty". Fender Rumble are another interesting option in that category, but they cost more for the same output volume.
    The RB-110 also has an actually usable distortion preset, unlike other combos in that price range.

    The best thing about Orange amps is that they are...orange. I've never found them to sound as good as (insert name of other major amp brand) and more especially since you have a black one. Upgrade. Happiness and peace.

    Ampeg all the way. Same studio amp I use. I have yet to hear an Orange bass amp I like. Bought that same D5 bass btw, exceptional, except a few high frets...nothing I can't fix.

    I can hear more background noises, like the A/C or the PC fans blowing. This isn't that bad, as I should hear the hiss/buzz from single coils better. I don't always hear them in you previous videos. The audio is clearer also.
    With the amps, the RB-110 is noticeably warmer/fatter sounding. The highs are more rounded and controlled. I can also hear the difference in your dynamics, without them being squished by the onboard compressor. TH-cam's bandwidth compression is bad enough.

      Thanks Jack! I have a loud ass gas furnace for the house behind the wall, that often gets picked up and bugs me so much lol. Spring can't come soon enough LOL

    Actually, I’d love to see more amp/preamp reviews on the channel in the future...
    Your bass reviews are really helpful in finding a great bass to fit ones playing style...
    I’m always in the market for finding great tone & reliable gear but don’t always have access to try things out...
    Right now I’m looking at purchasing either the Hartke LH 1000 or XL8500 amolifier, matched with the Tech 21 DP3x Dug Pinnick preamp to ad some sonic flexibility...
    I still have one of my old Hartke HA7000 heads from 1994-95 & it’s still reliable & never broke down once on me...
    I’d really love to try out the Ampeg SVT7 PRO, but I’ve heard so many stories about reliability & quality control issues & just cant see taking the risk of investment...

    The Ampeg sounded better all around for me. I could really tell a difference with my headphones. BTW - I used be stationed at Naval Air Station Brunswick, if you know where that's at.
