  • Some clips of RJ Corman Railroad Services working hard to clean up the derailed stone cars at the LSRC Alpena Michigan train yard on Long Lake Ave. At one point the chain on the side boom disconnected and the white stone car dropped down to the ground. Good thing no one was near it.

    Thanks for the video! Very interesting seeing how they move the cars around, flip one over and carry it away! And yes seeing the one drop off the hook was crazy! Thanks again!

    Wow, those are ancient Western RR Co Ortner cars! I thought those had all aged out by now. Georgetown RR has a number of them stored, unusable for interchange.
    Seems like it would have made a bit more sense for that front end loader to dump the rock in a waiting dump truck. Instead he had to dump it back on the ground, where it will have to be scooped up a second time later to load into something.
    They better not scrap that car - it's loudly proclaiming "I am alive!"

      Not always easy to find buyers of a specific product within trucking distance. Or truckers with availability.

    The big crash @ 18:25. If this were UP it would have done in half the time because they want the line open. LSRC probably said save as many cars as possible. If the bottom dumps didn't take a beating most can live another day.

      Yeah it took them about a week to get it back open. Now it’s pretty smooth over the crossing and the new rail is much heavier then what was previously there so should result in no derailments

    Good video , thanks MRP . It's too bad you missed the derailment. Do you know if D&M ever had any derailments ?

      Thanks yeah I would’ve liked to get it on video for memories but oh well. I know when the line that ran north to Roger City was in use there was a derailment that had a few tipped cars. Other then that I’m not sure but like most RR’s I’m sure there was more then one derailment

      @@HuronRailProductions ok thanks , I never found much information about D&M derailments either and nothing from any of my books. I did find out about two derailments but they were from the early 1900's but none from the modern era. But your right every railroad probably had a few , even minor ones.

      @@MikeG42 No problem, I enjoy seeing and reading history from the D&M but it doesn’t seem like there really is much from their more modern era before Lake State took them over.

      It sure is, the one point where the car came off the hook and dropped down on the ground was pretty unexpected. Good thing everyone was standing back

      Took them around two days to make it up here after the derailment happened. Not sure where exactly they originate out of

      They have a Derailment Divisions in Toledo and Columbus Ohio. Maybe they were busy elsewhere. I mean as derailments go. This wasn't bad or life-threatening. I was laughing watching the Case 570 scoop up the spilled gravel. Those big JD Sidewinders were kind of a surprise. I had forgotten they had bought some of them. I'm guessing probably 850's.       @@alberthendericks4234 Thanks for the info on them. It was cool watching them all work to get this cleaned up I’ll be trying to get videos of them fixing up the crossing and rerailing in the coming days

      The hook breaks around 18:17 in the video. This car was probably pretty damaged and will be scrapped seeing as they just left it in the yard upside down last I saw it

      @@midmichiganemdrailfan.4187 Not really dumb. A car as badly damaged as that one would cost far more to repair than to replace. It's simply business.
      The railroad will probably have it cut up for scrap and hauled away.
