@@Tailscaleyes! I’m sure many people are interested in playing modded Minecraft with friends but not that familiar with network stuff.. how are teenagers supposed to figure out port forwarding lol…
All multiplayer games, specially those that don't have selfhosted servers, when the developer is done with them, they should provide a way to run them like this. With headless servers, selfhosted. Amazing video, and great idea! I use it for Sunshine currently. Works great!
Excellent tutorial! Just learned that sharing can be 'unlimited'. I gotta shout out the equally useful tutorial in the kb on how to setup k8s-operater and expose factorio server deployed in kubernetes using tailscale
I've been running my server on AWS using an ec2 client. It was shockingly easy to get set up. I wrote a small bash script to handle updating the exe if the game updates. Cheap as dirt to run because you get 750 free hours on a micro ec2
@@Tailscale I can't say yet for late game. For early game me and my buddy haven't noticed any problems. If it does end up being a problem it's really, really easy to redeploy on a more beefy ec2
Thanks! These videos really help, can you also do one for connection optimization and tips and tricks to make sure you have a direct connection to your nodes and getting the best speed
Glad you like them! One of our Solutions Engineers, Lee, did a webinar on client connectivity deep diving (uploaded to this channel) into the specifics there. I'm going to have him on a future livestream too! In the meantime `tailscale ping` will tell you some of whats going on. Or you can find out more in our docs - tailscale.com/kb/1257/connection-types
Is it possible to create a package for MikroTik routers, of which there are tens of thousands on the internet, to facilitate the integration of MikroTik routers into a Tailscale network? Thank you!
Yep! You're exposing a port for a particular service. Whether it's Factorio or Minecraft or Terraria. Nuances of course for each game but the theory still applies.
Incredibly unnecessary, you can whitelist usernames and add password protections to servers. Then you can simply just have it show up in the global server list and Factorio will take care of all of the NAT punching by itself, sure it does require getting your account token, but at least it doesn't require everyone else to have tailscale. That being said, it makes a whole lot of sense for tailscale to have an ad for tailscale on their own youtube channel...
So tell me please how that works behind CGNAT? Also does my machine have to stay on 24/7 so other users can hop on when I am not? Can I manage that server remotely if I need to...just wanting to know if there are actually some necessary reasons for Tailscale? Man you must be an angry person...makes me smile just knowing that you must be miserable haha.
aint no way tailscale is talking about my favourite game LOL thats crazy. I also use tailscale for hosting my modded minecraft server with my friends
Want a Minecraft video? -Alex

Sunshine! Great idea for a future video. Thanks =)
Trees! You live very dangerously! As we all know trees are THE enemy - of every Factorio player! 🤪🤔
Really love tailscale, and your videos too. It always makes me excited with the ideas you’re sharing. Thanks so much
I did this literally last night, and now i see your video today. 😂 love yalls product!
You took time away from the factory to watch this video?

Is that free micro instance fast enough for the game server?

Love the colorized figlety motd you had when you ssh'd into your server. What's the name of the utility to produce that?
Figurine
I have a video on the ktz systems TH-cam channel going over it. 👍

i know it is not about factorio but i would like to know if this could be done for terraria too? the tailscale part at least

Of course 😂, but you need to config a server the same way you do with tailnet, like opening port forwarding /rent a VPS
We heard you like Tailscale with your Tailscale so we added some Tailscale to your Tailscale.
