As for Beatrice she's fighting him partially to satisfy her own curiosity but she also has to play ally to the kingdom. And considering shadow just aided the escape of a daughter who literally just murdered her father in broad daylight, it's only natural that she'd seek 'justice'.

Rose on the other hand was also shown as being strong, but she's was not someone worthy of the title of princess. - Iris had everything handed to her on a platter. However it was not the same for Rose. Oriana kingdom looks down on swordplay and thus she needed to struggle to get to where she is. - Ever since coming face to face with shadow garden, the flaws in iris character slowly begin to unfurl. We see that she's not a person of reason, it's her way or no way. - Iris had an overinflated ego. At some point She believe there's no one above her. However shadow/mundane man crushed that ego and showed her just how big a power gap there is between them - Even in the fight between shadow and Beatrix, iris was a third wheel. Shadow calls her an amateur while commending Beatrix's swordplay - When shadow called her out for using an artifact, it further added insult to her ego - Alexia meanwhile is training and trying her best to catch up to shadow. While iris has hit a roadblock. - Iris was never a level headed person. Throughout the series you can see her acting on impulse. Rose on the other, even though portrayed as a side character in earlier episodes has always been level headed. She always made the hard choices. Some people might feel sorry for iris, but i don't. But that's what I like about her character. Rose is the real victim, but she's also someone who recognises that she can't do what she needs to do alone. Mostly agreed but there is one part that does Iris a disservice. I read quite often that she supposedly thinks she is the strongest. She does not. In those flashbacks last episode you did see how Iris always had her pride but also actively wanted to go out there, train, make new experiences and become better, while her father pretty much decided "Nah, you're gonna sit pretty right here in Midgar and be a symbol.". And after years of sitting there and legitimately being by far the strongest person in Midgar (considering Shadow Garden was not a thing at the time) she naturally "started believing her own hype" so to speak. It's actually sad that they left out most of her interior monologue from the LN/manga during the fight with Mundane because there she actually spells it out while he is destroying her with feints and essentially says "I always knew there is someone stronger than me out there but I am still objectively one of the most powerful Dark Knights there is, so for someone to be THIS much stronger than me and be capable of toying with me they have to be the most powerful man in the world.". It's a boastful line but still shows a certain humility and that she is not shocked she met someone stronger, but rather HOW MUCH stronger the person is, which is a perfectly normal reaction considering Cid is essentially a deity as far as their world is considered. So the part that is actually fairly sad about her is that she was someone that did aspire to be stronger but was shackled because of the role she had to play for the Kingdom, really only being allowed a single purpose (being a symbol of power) only for her to now have to see this pseudo-"I am atomic" and realize that this one role that stopped her from doing or being anyone else is entirely meaningless because there is someone out there that could destroy all of Midgar in an instant and she would be helpless to stop it. It's a little like your doting parent didn't care what aspirations for your life you actually have and essentially forced you into becoming a doctor and then, shortly after you've finished med school, some AI-controlled robo-docs are released making all doctors obsolete. This whole life that you already didn't get to live the way you wanted to has now lost even the last bit of its meaning.
Beatrix knew as a warrior, there's always going to be someone out there better than you (Unless you're Shadow). Iris THOUGHT as a spoiled princess with an overinflated ego, that she was the strongest out there. Even referring to herself (In the light novel) as "One of the best in the world". Beatrix just wanted to throw hands.
Shadow played the role of the villain to perfection for this, which was his goal. Guy just wants to have fun and fun he did have. Loved the sike moment this episode lol.

As for him faking the attack, he was showing what he could have done, but think about it. Think at the first instance where he used it against that cult rounds wannabe. The area that was engulfed in purple at that time was much, much smaller than the area that ended up exploding. Now if we factor in that the explosion was at least 10 times bigger from what it seems, he would have wiped the entire kingdom out with the attack if he ended up actually using it here. It was indeed worthy of the title "Nuclear" as he intended.
it's fun to see the difference in perspective of male and female reactors as most guys were cheering for him and understood his actions (including me) whereas she was constantly questioning and was perplexed
i mean the more you question his action the less you would like him as a real-life human being. the reason why males like him is because they don't question it and only sees the cool factor not the consequences and reasoning.

Something I have seen not many reactors mention was what he stated to Beatrix, She is almost at the level of the 7 shades just on her own living in this world. She is almost at the level of the 7 personally trained by Cid with receiving any of it. Imagine if later on Beatrix does manage to find Alpha and ends up joining Shadow Garden and learn from Cid. She would end up being a force.

@@AaryanRKO he actually doesn’t. He killed a lot of innocent, there are just not shown in the picture, but the two atomic strike were true catastrophe, it’s impossible they didn’t do any victims. The last fight, he could have spared the need to fight in the city but he did, destroying a lot of habitations in the process, it’s also wishful thinking to think there were no victims. In the incident against the school, the terrorist killed a lot of people in the process but he chose to wait until it’s night because it’s « cooler ». He also decided to not use his magic to « respect » the terrorists tactic, even if it meant student dying. He is not evil because he doesn’t go out of his way to kill innocent people, but he is not good either because he doesn’t mind if innocent people die if the scene he wants to do is great enough for him (atomic strike, attack on the city, school Terro, etc.) There are a lot more example in the novel and I don’t want to spoil you, but if you read the last novel, you understand that Cid is either neutral or evil, but definitely not good.

How he is, is THE best part lol. If he was just a goodie two shoes no flaws great guy, it would just another generic anime that does nothing and nobody likes. I really want to read the LN now, they changed how Cid behaves in the fight in the anime from the manga. In the manga Cid kept up the shadowy figure and gave vague lines like "Don't lose sight of the real enemy". It changes how Iris sees him: in the anime, Iris is firm on labeling Shadow as a villain; in the manga, Iris is confused and doesn't have a grasp on how to see Shadow. Well, off to read the manga again and possibly the books too.
Dude manga changed so much from the LN, if you want to you should read LN. I have read manga and anime is better than manga. In manga CId character is goofy but anime describes his character best as a psycho which is same in LN. Manga is less dark and more goofy.
Love how Iris got her ego thrown right back at her. Mostly talking about how when she was talking with Alexa she said no human could be that powerful and that Shadow Garden was using artifacts to reach that level of power and she would best them. Yet when she's fighting Shadow she is the one using an artifact and Shadow says it's a crutch because your own skills don't improve if using an artifact. It seems she took that personally lol Hopefully she has a redemption arc because Rose and Alexia are solely focused on getting stronger regardless of what people around think.

I loved the contrast between Beatrix and Iris. The former engages Shadow for the opportunity of testing her mettle through battle with one of the toughest opponent she had ever faced. Unlike the latter, Iris, who instead of questioning Shadow regarding his motives, she deliberately escalates the situation thru violence in order to save face for having lost the fight against Mundane Man (Shadow). Beatrix, AnneRose, and Shadow garden have the maturity of women that Iris lacks. Finally Cid. The supreme deity of his universe. It's a good thing that he doesn't want people to worship him as God, for he could easily turned all their lives into a living Hell if that is what he desired. He's definitely a hammy, showoffy a**hole but for the most part is happy to play in the shadows.
I love going through all the ep20 reacts and seeing how everyone responds to the flash step in the Beatrix fight. Wide eyes seems to be the general reaction and I have to give the animation director props for that. some of the best fight choreography here in this episode.
He blocked the flow of magic from the rune sword. If he could do it anyways then he doesn't need to Dodge it in the first place. That is why i think he blocked the Magic flow so she couldn't increase the destruction power from the sword.
I think some people forget that Cid has no clue what's really going on, He has no idea that shadow garden is what it is. He believes alpha and the girls put on an act for old times sake.

Shadows' attitude is total freedom, he does what he wants, not like other isekai, that the protagonists spend their time saving the world because they have or feel the obligation, or because others push them, he is free to live his life how he wants and does it.
Interesting adaptation. There have been things I both like and dislike about the anime compared to the light novels and manga series, but I overall enjoyed my time over these past 20 weeks. I think there were leaks to season 2 being green lit, so I can't wait to see how they handle the second half of volume 3.
question from a worried anime only. I did like the premise and how the show handled it so far but I am worried for the future. Doing his ego edgy fantasy trip he is slowly continuing to hurt people without realizing like Rose and Sherry, which makes him more and more unlikable. Will he actually improve as a person in the future or atleast get punished by the world for it by everyone abandoning him for example? Or does the story continue to play it straight until we have an Overlord situation and I want to root against him due to his careless actions despite knowing he will never lose, which will suck all my enjoyment out of the show? No too specific spoilers but I dont mind knowing the general answers in advance so I wont be disappointed.

I do kind of feel bad for Iris, as she ingratiated herself pretty well the past couple of episodes (loved the coffee scene) but at the same time, I don't blame Cid at all for not holding back against her. I imagine the way he see's it she literally had him tortured... and while she like, apologized for that and I don't think Cid cares about it that much anymore, but... if she's gonna come at him with a weapon and try to murder him than he aint going to treat her gently. Anyway, I really do feel for her though, only fight her father showed up to watch and she gets handled like a noob, and he didn't even stick around to see if she was ok.
i agree with everything u said but cid always holds back in his fights,even in the ln which is the main source we still haven't seen him even try in a fight,him vs beatrix and iris was just his playtime,he did it just to flex on how overwhelmingly strong he is against them,that fight wasnt even him trying at all so he was infact holding back extremely.But he did teach them a lesson by beating their asses.

Shadow wasn't being fast, if it's anything like a technique I've seen in another show, he's using subtle movements so that her brain doesn't recognize him as a threat till the last moment, at which point she'll go into full panic mode and defend her life. It's used in Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry (a show that should be fun to react to if you haven't seen it already), and is explained that way. It's impossible in real life of course, but anything goes in anime. If you liked Eminence in Shadow, you should definitely check out Misfit of Demon King Academy. Verery similar shows, the main difference being that Cid is hiding his powers to be a Powerful person from the Shadows where Anos (our MC of Misfit) openly shows off his power as the Reincarnated Demon King but no one believes him

As for him faking the attack, he was showing what he could have done, but think about it. Think at the first instance where he used it against that cult rounds wannabe. The area that was engulfed in purple at that time was much, much smaller than the area that ended up exploding. Now if we factor in that the explosion was at least 10 times bigger from what it seems, he would have wiped the entire kingdom out with the attack if he ended up actually using it here. It was indeed worthy of the title "Nuclear" as he intended.

Something I have seen not many reactors mention was what he stated to Beatrix, She is almost at the level of the 7 shades just on her own living in this world. She is almost at the level of the 7 personally trained by Cid with receiving any of it. Imagine if later on Beatrix does manage to find Alpha and ends up joining Shadow Garden and learn from Cid. She would end up being a force.
Well she is older so alpha would be much better by the time she gains more experience

The last fight, he could have spared the need to fight in the city but he did, destroying a lot of habitations in the process, it’s also wishful thinking to think there were no victims. In the incident against the school, the terrorist killed a lot of people in the process but he chose to wait until it’s night because it’s « cooler ». He also decided to not use his magic to « respect » the terrorists tactic, even if it meant student dying.
He is not evil because he doesn’t go out of his way to kill innocent people, but he is not good either because he doesn’t mind if innocent people die if the scene he wants to do is great enough for him (atomic strike, attack on the city, school Terro, etc.)
There are a lot more example in the novel and I don’t want to spoil you, but if you read the last novel, you understand that Cid is either neutral or evil, but definitely not good.

I really want to read the LN now, they changed how Cid behaves in the fight in the anime from the manga. In the manga Cid kept up the shadowy figure and gave vague lines like "Don't lose sight of the real enemy". It changes how Iris sees him: in the anime, Iris is firm on labeling Shadow as a villain; in the manga, Iris is confused and doesn't have a grasp on how to see Shadow.
Well, off to read the manga again and possibly the books too.
Dude manga changed so much from the LN, if you want to you should read LN. I have read manga and anime is better than manga. In manga CId character is goofy but anime describes his character best as a psycho which is same in LN. Manga is less dark and more goofy.

I loved the contrast between Beatrix and Iris. The former engages Shadow for the opportunity of testing her mettle through battle with one of the toughest opponent she had ever faced. Unlike the latter, Iris, who instead of questioning Shadow regarding his motives, she deliberately escalates the situation thru violence in order to save face for having lost the fight against Mundane Man (Shadow).
Beatrix, AnneRose, and Shadow garden have the maturity of women that Iris lacks.
Finally Cid. The supreme deity of his universe. It's a good thing that he doesn't want people to worship him as God, for he could easily turned all their lives into a living Hell if that is what he desired. He's definitely a hammy, showoffy a**hole but for the most part is happy to play in the shadows.

I love going through all the ep20 reacts and seeing how everyone responds to the flash step in the Beatrix fight. Wide eyes seems to be the general reaction and I have to give the animation director props for that. some of the best fight choreography here in this episode.

Interesting adaptation. There have been things I both like and dislike about the anime compared to the light novels and manga series, but I overall enjoyed my time over these past 20 weeks. I think there were leaks to season 2 being green lit, so I can't wait to see how they handle the second half of volume 3.

question from a worried anime only. I did like the premise and how the show handled it so far but I am worried for the future. Doing his ego edgy fantasy trip he is slowly continuing to hurt people without realizing like Rose and Sherry, which makes him more and more unlikable. Will he actually improve as a person in the future or atleast get punished by the world for it by everyone abandoning him for example? Or does the story continue to play it straight until we have an Overlord situation and I want to root against him due to his careless actions despite knowing he will never lose, which will suck all my enjoyment out of the show?

I do kind of feel bad for Iris, as she ingratiated herself pretty well the past couple of episodes (loved the coffee scene) but at the same time, I don't blame Cid at all for not holding back against her. I imagine the way he see's it she literally had him tortured... and while she like, apologized for that and I don't think Cid cares about it that much anymore, but... if she's gonna come at him with a weapon and try to murder him than he aint going to treat her gently. Anyway, I really do feel for her though, only fight her father showed up to watch and she gets handled like a noob, and he didn't even stick around to see if she was ok.
i agree with everything u said but cid always holds back in his fights,even in the ln which is the main source we still haven't seen him even try in a fight,him vs beatrix and iris was just his playtime,he did it just to flex on how overwhelmingly strong he is against them,that fight wasnt even him trying at all so he was infact holding back extremely.But he did teach them a lesson by beating their asses.

Shadow wasn't being fast, if it's anything like a technique I've seen in another show, he's using subtle movements so that her brain doesn't recognize him as a threat till the last moment, at which point she'll go into full panic mode and defend her life. It's used in Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry (a show that should be fun to react to if you haven't seen it already), and is explained that way. It's impossible in real life of course, but anything goes in anime.
If you liked Eminence in Shadow, you should definitely check out Misfit of Demon King Academy. Verery similar shows, the main difference being that Cid is hiding his powers to be a Powerful person from the Shadows where Anos (our MC of Misfit) openly shows off his power as the Reincarnated Demon King but no one believes him
