Excellent video! You mention spending time memorizing the tunes you play. Do you find memorizing tunes important to improving your playing? I tend to use tablature as a crutch, and while i can play several tunes well, i just cant get myself to memorize them!
I do! When I memorize something, I internalize it and am really able to focus on the musicality of the piece and staying relaxed. I find that I have a harder time doing those things when I am looking at the music. And then I can also recall many songs at any moment because I know them by heart!
@@emmabordersmusic I suspected this would be your reply! I know you're right, but I have such a hard time memorizing songs! I think I just don't like it because it slows me down when learning new songs. Or perhaps my brain can't handle it! But I also know that it would help me play better. And it would be so great to be able to just play without looking at the music. This is something I need to work on for sure!
@@mandolintabsI understand that! Memorizing can definitely be a challenge and something that you have to work at. David Benedict has a really great video on tips to help you better memorize music if you want to check it out! th-cam.com/video/HwXlTnjlCmw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=onBrm5dHmxQiHxlE
I have an Ibenez mandolin I bought for $330 and I thought that was a lot of money but the thing is too hard to play some pieces. I don't want a mandolin that is too easy to play either and I might take it to a luthier by the end of this year. I don't read music but I know I can learn. I know how to read some but every book I get is in tabulature. I know a store a town away that has a lot of sheet music but I don't even know if there's a lot for the mandolin? I use the sheet music for the tempo of the tabulature. I read music for guitar and I spend most of my time on that. And I have a really really nice bouzouki I got for a good deal but I don't have much time for it.
Yes! The nice thing is any sheet music for violin can also be played for mandolin. And guitar melodies in sheet music and such can also be played on the mandolin since it is all in treble clef.

Good advice. Usually I keep playing through a piece until I get it. I like the idea of just repeating the difficult parts.
@DavidBenedictMandolin is awesome too! I hadn't seen his memorization video. Thanks for the link. It's very useful

I tried purchasing some music on your site, but don’t use PayPal. Is there another way?
Do you have Venmo possibly?
@ yes!!!!
Okay! You can go to my website and email me through there. Just tell me what sheet music you are interested in, and we will make it work!
Why speed up the parts where your playing. I think we would all enjoy and benefit from seeing you play in real time. 😊
Haha thank you! Well I could have kept those in, but then the video would have been 45 minutes long😆
@emmabordersmusic haha ok good point but maybe like one normal speed playthrough at the end?
