Your videos have become my lunch companion. I think it's incredible how you make something transparent and have the sensitivity to explain a possible doubt that we who watch it may have. It shows mastery and, without a doubt, professionalism. Always a charming video, Em.

Good tip!!! When I first noticed pros doing that I thought it would cause me to hit the wrong sting but it actually does not.

I think I've been doing this somewhat already, but I can tell that I could use more control and probably more motion in my pick attack. I also didn't know about using the width of motion to control volume, so now I can get better at dynamics!
Incidentally, I am curious about how you keep your pick in a good spot while resting behind the bridge. I haven't found a way to rest my hand that doesn't sometimes mute the lower strings, so I usually float and occasionally rest on the corner of the bridge for more precision.

Yes! The floating technique works great as well. I end up resting my hand behind the bridge where my hand is resting more on the A and E strings instead of the lower two strings. And really, only about half of my lower palm is actually resting on the strings because my hand is slightly angled.

What is the nut width on your mandolin? Just curious. And, thanks for the tip!

So the nut width on my mandolin is 13/16 inches, which is considered a wide nut. Thanks!

@@emmabordersmusic Curious to know. I saw that it is possible on a banjo, so maybe it is also possible on a Mandolin
