Popp sings as if these songs are no more challenging than the melodies of Brahms and Schubert taking the difficult intervals for granted and achieving an entirely musical expression so that we can hear Schonberg's relationship to the romantic composers of lieder who preceded him.

Ich bin ehrlich gesagt etwas enttäuscht. Beide Interpreten haben Schönbergs Anweisungen nur sehr oberflächlich und oft leider auch ungenau umgesetzt. Da gibt es weit bessere Lesarten. Schade.
