- The Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard is filled with every single form of motorsport you can find around the globe, from Formula 1 cars to rally, touring cars to Le Mans. But in the last few years it has been the stars of drifting who have taken centre stage.
This year not only did they get to shred the hill, smoking out the thousands of fans who wanted to see their amazing shenanigans, but they had their very own competition: Driftkhana.
These are our favourite runs from the whole weekend. Who smoked it best?

Goodwood is for all of the best Motorsport can offer out there...no matter drifting, motorcycle, rally or everything....I just enjoy it
Kevin Quinn's run was the best of the weekend, he should have won, best drift by far. the aerial shot of the smoke was epic. Way better than everyone else.
From what I saw he was definitely one of the worst drivers there

He wasnt drifting lmao. He was on brakes doing a burnout for 90% of the course. More smoke, sure; but he's going 40% of the speed of the other professionals

That Mach E seems horribly unbalanced for drifting, like it was extremely hard to get it into a controlled slide. The fact it carried itself waaaaaaay onto the grass in the 180 spin was enough to tell you: "I'm an extremely heavy car and absolutely not suited to be a drift car despite the fact my manufacturer, greens and governments want me to be."
Ken Block and Vaught Gitten Jr slid a Mach E better. Go watch them. They didn’t disappoint.

I like electric cars, but that mustang Mach E didn't look comfortable at all trying to drift up the hill, it looked like the driver was having a bad time trying to send it.
Ps : Kevin Quinn killed it, and putting his run just after the Mach E made the ford look even worse.

In theory becuase an EV can give you all your power instantly it should work, I think donut did a video on a ev converted camero drift car
@@iiGingiey no doubt about its capabilities, I’m saying if drifting, or even racing in general, goes electric, I’d stop watching completely. Half the allure of most motorsports is the engine sounds.

@@Antonioiam I'd say it has it's place even in motorsports, but drifting is literally for entertainment - sure, they figured out a system to rank the drivers, but we can all agree it's more just for fun - so I don't think taking away the sound from a driftcar would worth the extra torque but in hillclimb for example where you probably won't even hear the car for the most part as a spectator an electric vehicle could be to the drivers advantage

It doesn't take long to get sick of the onboard shots. Such an over used camera effect. I prefer to see the driving not the an editors gimmick skills. keep it simple and pure
I'm just starting to get into watching drift and I'm completely baffled by the backwards shot, showing nothing but smoke and a piece of the chassis. I literally cant see the car, whats the point of it?
In my opinion the only relevant onboard shots when it comes to drifting is the cockpit cams, preferrably with a wide fisheye lens. I can still see the angles the driver is sliding through and at the same time I get to see the footwork and handwork.
The rest, save it for conventional racing please, thank you.

I read in the comments how everyone laughs at MACH E, but the car is proof that it can be drifted from electric cars. It's not perfect yet, but it will work

So Ford made a 1400hp Mach E Mustang for the sole purpose of sliding in collaboration with Vaughn Gittin Jr, who drives and makes high powered Mustangs as a profession and is probably one of the best drifters out there, and they decided to not call him up and have him drive the car he built at Goodwood?
because he didnt want to be embarrassed by that p.o.s. rolling battery.

@@plantnt489 that car literally has electronic axle disconnect for drifting. And its still junk, its not even a legal model, its for ford to show their EV prowess and it fails consistently.

Electric based drift cars are still in its infancy.. as time goes on they'll find ways to make it more effective and handle better.

@@cerberus1166 Oh really? There's been Electric drift cars long before drifting was even a thing? Well that's news to me. And no, they just don't work the same, torque is instant and theres no gearing for different corners, you can't make a tight corner and then upshift to continue to drift up a long sweeping corner.. it's just one continuous gear. There's also little to no throttle modulation, it's more like an on/off switch.. very hard to get an in between suited for drifting. Electric cars just don't deliver power the same way petrol or diesel cars do, and that's the biggest obstacle they have to overcome with these electric based drift cars.

i enjoy watching this kind of drifting but i find the 2 car battle runs a bit daft, its great as a show but i just don't get it as a sport.
i love motorsports and will pretty much watch anything with an engine race.
now that's just my opinion i know some love it.

@@fayruzzee yea true unfortunately that’s why I don’t really watch drifting anymore no diverseness anymore everyone running the same engines go back like 10 years drift cars didn’t even go past 500bhp and they drifted just fine rules changed I guess back then they drifted with just about anything evos imprezas 86s old ones scions I remember the mopar blue charger and viper so sick, but times changed i guess

@@made_in_toxxyo702 the engine were diverse but the level was pretty low at that time, as much in terms of technology as in the driver’s skills. Watch any FD event in 2004-2009 to see that they wouldn’t even qualify as Pro 2 drivers. But I have to agree, there’s a lack of diversity compared to the last decade but this could be changed in two ways, the first is the implication of more manufacturers thus allowing the development of more drivetrains, the other is a series with a limitations in terms of Horsepowers.
@@Charlie-Charlot Manufacturer diversity will never happen due to Drifting not being Mainstream. Limitations in horse power would help, D1 is doing this right with NOS Bans.
The likely situation is that the ever increasing costs for 2JZs and S15 chassis will push them out of competition and we will start to see people adopting new setups.

Because James' showmanship was boring and dull. That's why it was 'meh'. These S Chassis drivers/cars are/were savage JDM performances. Always will be. Nothing against Mr. Deane but it's not all about "silly smooth" . There is a crowd to please and entertain.

Spinning your wheels profusely doesn’t mean you’ve drifted better mate might aswell go to those street takeovers where they do doughnuts for that

@@dombes1608 it’s not lol, and yes I know what you’re thinking. In this video the Mach-e looked pathetic, but I don’t know a lot of guys that are shredding all electric vehicles like that. I’m sure it takes a ton of time to get used to and I’d imagine the whole car would have to be set up differently for that kind of instant power. Would not be surprised to see more like this ripping it up

Would love to see a Tesla shred for sure, its a long, balanced car and delivers a shitton of power (tho im unsure of how strong the Mach-E is).
